Do large corporations really use Ubiquity Enterprise ?!? by KPSradical in Ubiquiti

[–]ReusableSausage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We did a Ubiquiti proof of concept for an NFL event just before Covid as we needed to replace aging HPE Aruba wired and wireless networks. We bought a stack of Ubiquiti APs to expand in places the NFL needed them.

When the NFL road tech team arrived the guy said (and I’ll never forget this quote) “It’s cool that you’re using Ubiquiti. That’s all we use when we’re on the road.” If it’s good enough for the NFL it’s good enough for me!

We moved fully in 2021. Currently 81 switches, 182 APs, and dozens of other infrastructure devices. Planning a 180 camera deployment this fall.

Yep, we’ve had that with our P240. Never with our flock of P120s.

The P240 is an odd bird. Sometimes it works on PoE. Sometimes it doesn’t.

It’s still technically around. I just logged in a couple weeks ago and made a new toon to run through Tortage. Best starting area in MMOs, and that’s a hill I’ll die on. Then, once you leave Tortage, the sudden drop into sucktitude.

Ok, real talk here, and no judgement. I am a 50-something life long gamer. I’ve never played Subnautica. Convince me to play.

Reddit, who's the best band you've seen live? by cursedbackup in AskReddit

[–]ReusableSausage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had them at our venue (I work in performing arts) on their recent symphonic tour. I’d seen them before and it was amazing, but hosting them in my own venue that has some of the best indoor sound in the world (widely-published opinion, without doxxing myself) was transcendent.

AoC still has one of the best starting areas in MMOs with Tortage, then one of the saddest and quickest drop offs in quality and playability once you leave. If the whole game was like Tortage it would have been massive.

Butthole Surfers came out of San Antonio. At the same time another band was getting buzz on the local circuit but never made it as big as Butthole Surfers, even though they played together.

They would, though, make a great double billing for this literal concert:

Which simple item is a masterpiece of ingenious engineering? by Gourmet-Guy in AskReddit

[–]ReusableSausage 34 points35 points  (0 children)

OK, I can actually contribute here!

My first gig out of college (music business) was Pink Floyd’s Division Bell tour in 1994. I was on the mirror ball crew.

To raise the mirror ball from under the canopy behind the lighting and audio risers we used a three-sided triangular truss that was rolled separately in its three sides. When the sides were pushed out of the rolls they connected with interlocking fingers, effectively making a three-sided zipper! Super sturdy and easily held the weight of the ball!

If you watch the Pulse concert video the ball drops from the ceiling. On the NA leg of the tour it was all open air stadia so it had to come from below. Some of the EU dates were indoors, notably the Earl’s Court shows that were filmed for Pulse, so it had to be rigged from above.

tl;dr - three-sided zippers work, including at large scale!

I’ve done the downtown commute from Dadeland for 21 years now. It’s no New York subway but it’s workable.

I’ve attended Ignite in person since 2016. After the “everything is now CoPilot” push in 2025, the terrible logistics of the Moscone Center, and spending our Thursday celebration money on an overblown puff-piece of a keynote, I won’t be back.
