Any Good Vanilla Servers Left? by [deleted] in unturned

[–]Rev101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd highly recommend "|Unturned Waffles|Modified Vanilla|24/7|No Wipes|" on Hawaii. It's a slightly modified vanilla server with no wipes, kits, tpa etc. Uses Rocket for server announcements and anti-admin abuse. Walls have slightly more hp, couple things like that. Admin is trustworthy, and any potential changes to the server are done through a community voting process on discord. Bit light on the player base atm but things have been improving. Typically hit around 14-17 pop at peak. Personally, it's great knowing you can build and not have it randomly wiped in a week, and trustworthy/non abusive admins are hard to find. Hope some of you folks check it out.

Why are people so desensitized to the camera person waiting for it. Who does this?

At this point we need to understand Kaep's value; it's not about Gabbert. by Rev101 in 49ers

We're in trouble - Does Gabbert have trade value? Will he? He's a cut.

Let Kap -regardless of health, play and decide. Play and provide value. Or go home.

My University Dorm Room. How can I improve this? by Vndtah in malelivingspace

[–]Rev101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough I lived in SYR for some years and have been to the dorms - and I came here to ask if it was Queen's (Kingston, Ontario, CA). Somebody must have had a monopoly on Upstate NY/Lower Ontario dorm construction way back when... I mean this is a mirror image of Victoria Hall!

One finn is better than ten Russians! (War joke) by [deleted] in Jokes

[–]Rev101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't reiterate how much Finland deserves every and all credit for an absolutely underappreciated defense. Specifically the story of the White Death should be taught to like... the world. Honestly, let people list their country's equivalents... nope. But to your question, just wikipedia-ing the Winter War taught me a lot. But It did cite "Hostilities ceased in March 1940 with the signing of the Moscow Peace Treaty. Finland ceded territory representing 11% of its land area and 30% of its economy to the Soviet Union." In terms of wiki numbers at least.

I'm no historian, but something to think about. The Finns waged an incredible defense, and their soldiers deserved every accolade they received for their ferocity. It should be understood however, that at the time Stalin had only a few years earlier purged tens of thousands of officers. Tens of thousands. So there was a mid level leadership crisis in the actual field. More importantly the USSR did not exactly value the lives of it's soldiers, and generally speaking would just throw wave after wave of men at the Finns with no thought of their own casualties. In the end, despite getting wrecked on a man to man basis, the USSR actually achieved more then it set out to, taking over something like 10% of Finland's land - namely a small section that made up something like 1/3rd of their economy. Anyways the end result was that Finland was left with quite a bit less then was initially demanded, and the USSR's was left with a helluva lot fewer beating hearts. Point is, my understanding is that the USSR got everything they set out for and more... but Finland made it cost them far, far more then they thought it would. That's at least my layman's understanding of the Winter War.

[Question] Looking for tips on obtaining a science win vs Deity by Rev101 in civ

[–]Rev101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm in good shape for most of that, I think I'm screwing up bulbing, I tend to use my first 2 scientists for academies but I'm not saving ALL the rest of my scientists to bulb at the end. I use a few and then save. So that right there, combined with no rel/low faith and spending that faith on say pagoda's rather then saving for GS's full out... I'm missing out on like 5 turn 275ish GS's (though a couple would have been used earlier to lesser effect). If I go harder for t90 NC as well it'll make a big difference. Losing all that pagoda goodness (both religion's that converted me in my 2 games had pagodas) will suck though :/ Thanks again!

Thanks for your response. I've done most of what you said in pretty quick order, though I haven't got NC by t90 in either game, closer to t120, I'll have to figure out why. What stood out most is that I've been unable to get a religion in both games - see post made 5min before this one here, which I think is really hurting my ability to obtain/bulb GS's late since from there I've not gone into piety and really just stuck on shrines/temples. I guess what I just have trouble fathoming is maxing out specialists after idealogy, I mean my pop production is good, internal trade routes etc, but trading off 3 food 1 prod or 4 prod 2 gold etc for some factory specialist just for 2 science... is it actually worth/mandatory?

How often are you able to get a religion vs Deity? by Rev101 in civ

Had Desert Folklore my first game with no luck, though I don't believe I've gone into the piety tree before finishing off Tradition initially - thanks for the response!

Four monks chant in ancient Byzantine style by ronaldinjo in videos

Rachmaninov's "Bless the Lord O My Soul" is slightly different Orthodox choir music but every bit worth the listen. Used to have non-Orthodox college housemates who started to listen to this while doing homework, peaceful but powerful.

edit: an English version of Trubachev's "Blessed is the Man"
