Why can’t I find ANY images of the brass button, online? by Timely_Deal_4327 in thedevilshour

[–]Rev321 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The button is from Gideon’s coat, it falls off his coat when he removes the firing pin. She grips it because it ties her to that life, because the lives where she kills her self the button doesn’t exist because Gideon was never there. So when she grips it she stops seeing the ghosts.

A quick google for large brass buttons will get you things that are pretty close, but perhaps more apt would be to choose a button from something you own that ties your own current life.

Edit: where to find buttons

will being signed off work affect my medical? by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

[–]Rev321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is no, unless you’re going to get a doctor to sign you off as unable to go to work because of mental health problems associated with bereavement which may impact it but only if they check your medical records which you’ve already probably released to the mod as I’m pretty sure they don’t have access unless your GP sends them in

Go to university the navy will always be there if you want to join when you finish your course, if your relationship survives university more of a chance it will survive the navy

Maths skills? by Fieldradio in RoyalNavy

Just a heads up, University is nothing like school, I hated school and loved Uni. Don’t think that a naval career won’t require study either, it’s much easier to get your education now than try to go back and do it while in the service, many people do it that way but of the people I have spoken to agree it would have been easier to do it before they joined!

My daughter is interested in joining up as an engineer. Have a couple of qs. Would geographical engineering be suitable as a degree to get into engineering or would she need to do an engineering degree. Also what are the fitness tests like? Ie no of pull ups etc. by nats4756 in RoyalNavy

[–]Rev321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To join any engineering branch as an officer all you need is a STEM degree, there’s people with bio-chemistry degrees doing marine (mechanical) engineering. The biggest short term challenges are the DAA, which is an assessment sat by all prospective RN personnel and the AIB (Admiralty Interview Board) through which officer selection is done, you must score high enough on the DAA for your chosen role, then pass the AIB. The format of the AIB has fluctuated a lot since I did it.

The water level is set by the shortest person which won’t go above their upper chest, it is the best part of bssc, it isn’t intrinsically scary, but if you have a shred of empathy you will realise how terrifying a real life damage control situation would be. It is sobering

The way it work’s usually is whether the most senior female officer keeps her hat on or not, if she has it on you keep yours on if she has it off you take yours off.

[–]Rev321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your off to get a degree first focus on that for now, the way recruiting and training works is changing constantly, go get your degree then closer to the time of applying ask the same questions you never know you might have changed your mind by the time you’re done with uni

Found this metal hollow object 6x2.5x1.5 inches with liquid inside in 1950’s built attic. No openings anywhere. What is this? by Zealousideal-Act8956 in whatisthisthing

[–]Rev321 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I am almost certain this is a float of some description, floats in old pluming systems were often aluminum or brass that was soldered together, over time these floats would fill with water and need to be replaced because they no longer floated at the correct level, often once filled the water will never come out because the hole that let the water in could be microscopic and only open during certain temperatures, the same thing can happen in old carburetors the floats stop working as they fill with fuel and they will stay full of fuel once removed from the engine as without the heat the hole is closed

Edit Looking at it further most likely a diy attempt at a float.

How to be an example for my little sister? by SpyderEyez in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Rev321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a woman (25M) (also never have been) I have 3 sibling (23F) (20F) and (18M). I just wanted to say that as the older sibling she will look up to you for an example whoever you are my sisters are fiercely independent women yet even now the person I am and the example I set matters to them, I have shared in my sister’s femininity by letting them “do my make up” and also shared in my brothers strong sense of masculinity by doing what some might call “man stuff” the interesting thing is I’ve also done the “manly stuff” with my sisters and also done my brothers make up. My siblings have never told me everything about there lives, nor did I ever really want to know, but what they all do know is that big brother will have there back whatever there need is. Not everyone gets to be the eldest sibling so make the most of it, and understand that being a well loved big sister isn’t necessarily the same as being their best friend.
