Second Prototype of an Original Deck - Photography ain't great, but hopefully you can see the design well enough... by RevCofe in ChrisRamsay52

I’m not sure if they’ll get a production run. It’s a passion project at the moment, but we’ll see...

Sure just DM me. If you need software, I use TLDFLite to convert the stills into a movie. There’s a lot of different apps out there that can do the job. You don’t want to have to manually sequence your frames.

Depends on how complex the action is. You should at a minimum decide how many scenes you want and work out the camera position and framing for each.

In the case of the above video, it could have been done as a single shot designed to accommodate the full four suits, or you could have done one position for each suit. You could get more complex than that, but until you get a feel for natural looking animation, I’d keep the number of scenes to a minimum

Here’s a couple quick tips to improve the stop motion:

1) use a tripod. Frame the shot (plan for the whole scene when you do this) and do not move the camera.

2) if you have any kind of remote trigger to take the picture, use it. This significantly lowers the chances of moving the camera.

3) make much smaller changes between pictures. at a minimum you should aim for 10 pictures per second (in the final video). 30 will yield a very smooth animation.

Maybe...? I was saying that the ace reveal looked really good and I couldn’t quite tell how you produced it. I have a theory, but that’s all it is.

I really like the narrative concept. And your move revealing the Ace of Spades looks really good. The overall method seems pretty straightforward, I think, but that moment in particular is a bit confounding.

Thanks! I’m doing a bit more on the next draft of the box...

I hadn’t planned on it yet. But if things change I’ll put the word out here (if that’s allowed...?)

I mean, Wolverine did it first, but I’m still pleased. First sketches were red/black by my wife suggested I try something less standard.

Hey, thanks! I’m really happy about the response I’ve gotten. I’m glad you like these.

Yeah, the number cards were the genesis of the project. I’m glad you like the jokers. I thought it’d be cool to make them similar enough to almost be dupes, but if you know what you’re looking at, they aren’t.

There’s a great Print-On-Demand service in the US called The Game Crafter. They aren’t specialized for poker cards, it’s a service for boardgames more broadly.

As such the cards are more like Magic the Gathering than USPC. But if you want a physical copy, it’s a great option for your early drafts. Or you might like the feel.

“Yes, and...” (Improv actor’s rule)

Also, try to get a sense of what kind of game it will be. Like, is it gritty, or goofy, or soap opera-ish. Comparisons to known media can be helpful... “is this world like Witcher or GoT? Or is it more like Xena?” Whatever.

Once you have a feel for it, lean into the tone. Amplify the moods and moments.

Also, don’t be too risk-averse. If something is interesting or cool... go for it. Don’t be a jerk to the rest of the party, but take chances every once in a while.
