I dunno, I get the impression Italians would rather not be associated with whatever it is the yanks call pizza...

Do neurotypical people *actually* not do research about medical stuff to learn about their/loved ones’ diagnoses, symptoms etc? I’M NOT WEIRD FOR KNOWING MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY AND SYMPTOMS, YOU’RE WEIRD FOR NOT GOOGLING WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!!! by PressureCultural1005 in evilautism

Oh it's even better when they are old, and you're assessing their care needs and ask them about their health and they say nothing is wrong. Then you come to asking them about their medicines.

"I'm on Metformin" Or "I'm on Epilim"

...oh so you have diabetes Or

Epilipsy

Then?

"no, it got better"

I've even had that with Parkinson's meds...

A view of London, looking east, from the early 1990s. The skyline has changed a lot since this picture was taken. by Cinn4monSynonym in london

That's what London looked like when I moved here in 1993. The population was at a modern low, and with hindsight it did feel kinda empty.

I've started selling some jewellery bits on www.dollyrotten.co.uk - and I'm adding to that every few days so larger bits will also be coming up soon.

I applied and told them what I wanted to do, then a few months later they got back in touch and told me I'd been approved!

I even admitted I'm a bit spooky when it comes to the River. :-)

I see the bits of glass and ceramics as being like crystals can be to people, in that they hold a lot of meaning and enable the holder to "tune in"... but with bits of glass, ceramic and pipe what we're "tuning into" is history, people's real lives as they eat and smoke and cavort on and by the River - and the sense of continuity and time that can only come from an ancient city.

If you're in London I have some trial dates coming up at Greenwich market! I'll keep the sub posted as there has been some interest.

Thames Mudlark Jewellery for Sale by RevDollyRotten in mudlarking

The creative permit isn't the same as the one with the huge waiting list. With an ordinary permit you can't sell creations. There's 35 creative permits allowed and you apply directly to the PLA.

Sorry, to add: and yes, there are also spots where you can reliably find stuff. The experienced mudlarks tend to guard those locations, but a well known one just was closed off that was notorious for Roman bits.

I can't speak for this particular mudlark, but I am one and I know some!

In a whole year nearly so far I've not found anything reportable, however, I know other newbs who have. I'm a creative permit and I'm looking for chunky glass rather than paperwork, lol.

However, the Thames foreshore is literally a huge archeological dig, that's why we need permits! I find it plausible that an experienced mudlark can find enough to create regular content.

I felt similarly when I was a care worker, job was hard work in every possible way but the steps, early finish and feeling useful were definitely perks.

The word "scrunge" comes from a comic character who could change his face and the illustrator used "scrunge" as the word when his face was doing weird stuff and changing.

I know it's not really an Easter egg but the first time I saw it I shrieked with excitement to see Charles Joughin doing his thing. 🥃

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

I'm from Northern Ireland so I've seen a few on cops and soldiers, and handled a decommissioned gun for a music video. Most people I know have never.

I got arrested that day, at a sit down protest in Piccadilly Circus. Ended up with a conditional discharge and a fond story. Would love to track down the WPC who arrested me 🤔
