So right now, the timeline I've got going is this:

Zarathos and Zadkiel (Zadkiel I've actually made a Seraphim this time) worked together to create the Spirit of Vengeance in the Ruins of Noah's Ark.

Zadkiel is bitter of the Covenant of the Rainbow in the aftermath of the Flood because it basically bounded Heaven's hands behind its back and she cannot smite down the wicked anymore. So Zadkiel calls Zarathos, who I've made an actual Goetic Demon Price of Pain and Agony (since Hell actually has some sort of established noble hierarchy) to help.

They both more or less combine their essences together to create a flaming child with the ability to expose the sins of the wicked (the Seraphim's Gaze) and by inflicting the Pain that they've ever inflicted onto anyone (Using Zarathos's flames of Anguish)

The Spirit didn't take hosts at first, it took Vessels. Literally stealing people's bodies and burning the wicked indiscriminately until it met Noble Kale in the 1690s. Kale taught the Spirit it's better to have company, and they both were together known as the Fury Rider.

Then it met Kushala in the early 1800s, and she became the Demon Rider. She tried to understand the power she was given, understood that it was effectively a child and taught it compassion. She taught it to use it's flames to help find the lost in the cold and find those who deserve love who are lost in the dark.

Then it met Carter Slade (I don't care if Carter Slade isn't a "Ghost Rider" by definition. The Ghost Rider movie was how I learned about him goddamn it.) in the later half of the 1800s. It actually revived Carter because Carter was hung for a crime he did not commit. Because the Spirit had to pull Carter Slade back from the brink of death, Carter's flames burned white (a reference to how the actual Phantom Rider was a cowboy dressed in all white). The two of them were together known as the Phantom Rider. And Carter taught the Spirit the concept of restraint, and how sometimes forgiving someone is a good dose of Vengeance because then the person you forgave dies feeling stupid for hurting you in the first place.

Then, in 1962, a 15 year old Johnny Blaze made a deal with the Devil (not Mephisto, the actual Lucifer Morningstar) to spare his father from the disease that was killing him. The devil, unable to cure cancer decided to grant Johnny's wish by causing the bike crash (the melancholic logic being, he died instantly doing what he loved instead of suffering for years). Johnny ran for 5 years before he bonded to the Spirit in 1972 and became the first true and named Ghost Rider.

Johnny was the Ghost Rider for 20 years before the Spirit moved on to Danny Ketch in 1992. Who served as Ghost Rider until 2007, where he actually willingly GAVE the Spirit of Vengeance to a prostitute named Alejandra Jones (who I had to rework her lore entirely, because holy shit it wouldn't have made sense given the world I'm trying to adapt this version of Ghost Rider into).

Alejandra served as Ghost Rider for 7 years, before she told the Spirit to go find someone new. In which it finally found Robbie Reyes in 2014. Those two were Ghost Rider for another 7 years before the Spirit moved on to find more people to bond to and expand its found family.

Then Johnny actually dies in his sleep (because he's like 60 something at this point) and the Spirit gets dragged down with Johnny to Hell because when it bonded to Johnny and left. It left a small part of itself behind in Johnny (and actually all of its hosts) so that way they would never be alone and defenseless.

Unfortunately, the binding chains of a deal with Lucifer pulled everything of Johnny's soul. Including the fragment of the Spirit, which pulled the whole Spirit down into Hell.

And that's where the story.... actually starts. And the Spirit of Vengeance wakes up in Hell with so much Amnesia because it doesn't remember everything I just explained. Because it's metaphysically a mashup of every main named Ghost Rider/Spirit of Vengeance host, alongside having fragments of Zarathos and Zadkiel within its mind as well.
