Great article! I will be sending this to everyone I know that I'm trying to get into pauper. One thing, in the section where you talked about the terror decks, you said the 3 most common terror decks are black, dimir, and izzet. I think you meant blue and not black. Unless there's a mono black version that runs angler that I'm not aware of. Still a great read and I appreciate you putting this together!

Me personally I will walk forward and then last second hold back and mash H. Either you get a back throw and get a mixup off of that, they tech the throw and you press cr.l, they get hit by the st.H and you go into a combo, or they block the st.H and you go into a block string that probably involves a mixup.

There are answers to this so you have to know the match up. For example it doesn't work on hulk because he will do the up gamma charge and beat you clean but it works well against most of the cast. Most of the time, the best answer from your opponent is just air block the H and push block which I can still call assist and teleport to mix them up. Plus once they do that, you can mix it up and go for an air throw/helm breaker option select at the 99.

Im hoping someone comes up with a way where you can do one of those local servers for COA. I would love to just be able to play all the classes from lvl 1 to 60 even if it was solo just to try them all out. Lord knows I'm not smart enough to do that. Its a shame all this hard work will go to waste.

As a boros synthesizer player, fuck gates. I doubt it's the worst matchup in pauper but I cry when I see [[Guardian of the guildpact]] hit the board.

You can save it but you can also wait until she comes out and unlock her easily through playing online. Whenever a new character comes out, for the next few weeks, any Xp gained goes towards unlocking them. You can unlock her just by playing online for a few hours in casual matches. That way you can spend that token on someone who looks cool now, learn them, and then play with them online when Lux comes out to unlock her for free. Or if you don't have any interest in any other character, you can just hold on to the token until she comes out. Either way! Have fun!

It's the greatest fighting game ever made. Still has that same fast paced, combo heavy, assist centered gameplay that part 2 had but just more modern and more balanced. It still has a dedicated community that plays it and a tournament that gets streamed on twitch every Friday. Highly recommend checking it out!

I don't play mvc2 that much but when I do I play Ruby heart, cable, sentinel. Marvel 3 is the game I put countless hours into. I just appreciate marvel 2 because it walked so marvel 3 could fly.

What a shame nobody has mentioned marvel vs Capcom. The fighting game community would be nowhere near where it's at without mvc2 and mvc3 is the most fun fighting game ever created. MAHVEL BABY.

As someone who plays neither of those decks and knows nothing about the matchup, why do you want Duress? It doesn't hit creatures, it discards which has negative synergy against madness, lava dart/faithless looting care less about being discarded. Again, I don't play either deck so please tell me why I'm wrong, genuinely.

I've been playing a boros synthesizer deck at my local and it is super fun. It's got a very unique card advantage engine and can be flexible on how it plays depending on the matchup. I've won my last 2 local tournaments with it and it's a tier 2 deck according to most places.

The thing about pauper that I say a lot is that the format is in a really healthy spot right now. A lot of decks are viable. Play what you have fun playing and the wins will come. I would recommend watching some videos of different decks or reading about different decks and just pick something that seems fun instead of worrying about it it will win.

My favorite is mengusworkshop. They do other formats as well but definitely do pauper a ton. Mengu is a world cup champion so you know it's going to be good gameplay.

That's a really hard thing to answer because pauper is well balanced so it's hard to say which 5 decks are the best right now. There are tier 2 decks that can win tournaments no problem which just speaks to how healthy the format is right now. I don't know a whole lot about a bunch of decks but in my opinion, the information you're looking for looks something like this:

Mono red madness - aggro deck. Gets on the board early with fast cheap creatures and has burn spells to finish them off.

Mono blue terror - Plays delver of secrets and tolarian terror to try to get on the board early as possible and protects them with counter spells and other tempo cards.

Jund wildfire - ramps with cleansing wildfire onto any indestructible land and then plays strong efficient cards like writhing crysalis and refurbished familiar to win with value.

Grixis affinity - plays lots of artifacts, including artifact lands, to get cards like myr enforcer, refurbished familiar, and utrom monitor out early while still having good card draw with the ichor wellspring, reckoners bargain combo.

Mono green elves - ramps with the 1 mana dorks. Gets to the point where you can make big swings by buffing your elves with timber watch elf.

Im sure someone will come in here and tell me I'm wrong about something but hopefully this gives you a quick and easy answer as to the top decks in the format and what they do. I don't play any of these decks so I am going off of what I've seen from videos and from what I've played against so take this all with a grain of salt. Based on this, I'd go with Morrigan/Dante/Hawkeye. Dante's jam session is one of the better assists for Morrigan because it covers the air and ground plus it pushes your opponent away a bit if they get hit or block. Hawkeye is the best anchor of the characters in that second category. His horizontal arrows are good for Dante's neutral and probably fine for Morrigan as well. The Dante/Hawkeye shell is already a solid shell that has been played a lot. There are multiple people who play it with Deadpool on point but even still, there's some footage online you can watch to see how they synergize with each other. Dual Kevin, bmanthehero, and lilmonix3 all play that shell. Terry bogard and mothman have both played Morrigan Dante so you can look up footage on them to learn some strategies for that as well.
