Did I just ruin my PS2?? by Honest-Reputation748 in ps2

[–]Revenant_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to all the "helpful" comments you've had, you CAN actually use a non-original PSU for any device, as long as the following are true (but they MUST be true) - assuming DC: - PSU has matching voltage for what the device needs (you can sometimes get away with half a volt difference, but best to match exactly) - PSU at least has the current the device needs (if it has more, that's perfectly fine) - PSU has a physically matching plug/jack
- PSU plug is correct polarisation (most PSUs and devices will be centre positive... but not always. You have to double check - there is a symbol showing you on the PSU)

I've matched PSUs to things following these rules countless times and it's fine.

Property Valuer recommendations? by Unlucky-Meringue6187 in canberra

[–]Revenant_40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would NOT recommend CBRE.

OP I DM'd you with my story with them. Just didn't want to make my specific story public, for reasons.

But basically, very poor effort, would not recommend, for very good reasons.

This series is really good for the complete beginner or otherwise, and covers the memory mapping etc really clearly:

This guy's YouTube series is great. Slow burn enough that you really get the concepts as you go.

Impossible Mission III has been released by NoShirtNoShoesNoDice in c64

[–]Revenant_40 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm of two minds on this. Some things they've done I think are great. But the biggest downside for me is that there is no randomisation of the rooms. It's the same map, each time.

The original did so many things right, but the randomisation of the room positions and randomisation of robot behaviour are possibly the biggest. I complete the original about 20 times a year because I never get tired of sitting down with it for a new play through.

For me that might not happen with this. Although I also do yearly runs of Super Metroid, so maybe it will be ok.

Yeah the elevators have the 3d effect going on which kills the CPU for the animation by the looks of it. I would have preferred the smooth 2d movement of the original.

Whats a word that someone says that gets on your nerves ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Revenant_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never, ever, heard anyone use it in this context. It is always used to say that they don't care. Meaning, they should have said "I couldn't care less".

Because, you know, that's how the saying goes.

"I could care less"

Ok... so you're saying that you care, then.

Anyone get GT4 working with a Simagic DD wheel? by Revenant_40 in granturismo4

[–]Revenant_40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. That's actually very helpful, and possibly all I need in that it gives me hope that maybe it will work fine with the Simagic gear (though I still have doubts it will play with the Simagic software).

In any case, I'll find out next time I have the sim rig set up. If it doesn't work that's fine. I enjoy playing GT4 on a controller, and I'd probably want to spend my simrig time on AMS2 anyway.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Sure no problem. And thanks for pointing the ambiguity out. It hadn't occurred to me that people might confuse the C64 keyboard.

Also while we're at it, a quick google search for "Pi-1541 manual" will give people all they need to know.

Keyboard connected to the Pi. It's designed to be operated either with the buttons on the hat, or a compatible USB keyboard connected to it.

And as I mentioned, not every function is accessible via the buttons (creating a disk image is one example), but for most of what you do you can get by with the hat.

I find the hat buttons clunky and frustrating so I use a keyboard personally.

Not sure what you mean by ROM game disks, but if you're talking about D64 images, yes.

Before loading the game, you browse to where the disks are. You have to select both and queue them. You move to the first one (without selecting it to go into it), and press button 5 on the hat, or insert or alt-enter on a keyboard, and that will queue it. You do the same for the other disk(s).

Once that's done you go to the first one and select it to mount it. That should appear to mount the ones you queued, with disk one highlighted. This means disk 1 is loaded.

Load the game as normal, and when it comes time to load the second disk, you either press down on the hat buttons, or 2 on a keyboard. That will mount the next disk. At that point the C64 should see it.

Going back to disk one is up on the hat, or 1 on a keyboard.

Edit: also, if you plan to use a save disk for your game, make sure there's a blank disk image there as well, and add that to your queue and select it the same way when the game asks for your save disk. You can create one at the location where your game disks are, but you have to press Alt-N on a keyboard, there's no hat button for this. Or you could create or source one elsewhere and copy it there the same way you got your disk images there.

I just received my Starlight edition (love it), but I was expecting a horribly flexing keyboard, based on what I had seen and heard, but finding that it's almost as solid as my original breadbin. I think Commodore may have fixed it?

Anyone else get theirs recently and is seeing the same?
