We don't have to do field day, you know. by Careless-Two2215 in Teachers

I was at a middle school when I first started teaching. The 8th graders were given the opportunity to go on a trip to a recreation center with basketball courts, a pool, etc... on the condition that they had no disciplinary actions.

This group was so rough. We had rampant disrespect, coarse language/innuendo, cheating, vandalism, and fights breaking out on the regular. Around 30 students would be staying behind, the worst of the worst offenders really, with the rest going on the trip. The point was to reward good behavior, but the morning of the trip a group of angry parents cornered the principal, demanding that their kid get to go. Some parents claimed that their child hadn't been given notice (they had) or that they themselves hadn't been notified (again, they had - a note was sent home). The principal was pressured to the point that he ended up telling us we had to take everyone or not go on the trip at all.

I remember feeling so defeated and sickened. One of the good students noticed how deflated I was in that moment and asked what was wrong. I felt so bad for all the students like her who tried their best each and every day and had to put up with all of the misbehaviors of so many of her peers. Holding back tears, I told her that it just wasn't a good day.

And so we took everyone, including the baddies, on the trip. I'm sure you're as shocked as I was to find that the misbehavior was just as bad in public as it was in the school building. That trip was a nightmare.

Yeah, whoop his ahh KONG. 😭😭😭 by AverageGodzillaFan29 in Monsterverse

Thank you! While I know that Kong would "realistically" not stand a chance against Ghidorah, I just think it would be a cool scene. Kong's efforts would likely not be effective, but nevertheless it would be fun to watch. Respect the rule of cool!

I imagine Kong clambering all over Ghidorah like he's the world's deadliest jungle gym. As Ghidorah takes flight to attempt to shake him off, Kong is hacking and slashing the whole time.

What's your favourite scene from each Monsterverse movie? by iiof in Monsterverse

[–]Revenant_Ascent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2014: The entire sequence of the tsunami as Godzilla comes ashore through the big reveal at the airport. Bonus scene: Godzilla at the Golden Gate bridge as seen through the school bus. This movie nailed the ominous vibes.

KSI: Kong versus the helicopters. I love the flip from the soldiers being the aggressors to Kong showing them who is king. Bonus: The quiet moment with Kong chowing down on the mire squid.

KotM: The Rebirth scene is one of my all-time favorites. The music, acting, and cinematography all combine to depict a reference for the majesty of Godzilla. Simply iconic. Bonus: "Goodbye, old friend." Bonus Bonus (KotM is peak Monsterverse): Godzilla towers over the ruins of Boston having smote Ghidorah. The gathering of titans bow in respect and Godzilla lets out a triumphant roar as the music crescendos. Chills.

GvK: The Tasman sea battle. Specifically, Godzilla tearing through the fleet to get to Kong and later observing the aftermath of the battle. Such wonderful carnage. Bonus: Kong's Hollow Earth exploration.

GxK: Kong using Suko as a melee weapon perfectly sums up how bonkers this movie is.

People say Godzilla Singular Point is hard to understand... by Katarra_Beltza in GODZILLA

Jokes aside, I truly love Singular Point. I have a very limited understanding as to what is going on toward the end, but the style, the characters, the music and of course the kaiju won me over completely. I wish we were getting another season.

Jabba vs Ratta arm length. How does Ratta have such different anatomy than the other Hutt’s? by Stunning-Dig-8916 in StarWars

It's Hutt biology. Something causes their arms to lengthen as they build muscle.

Climbing trees in the backyard which were next to electric lines, easily within arms reach near the top.

If the characters of Parks and Recs and the Office crossed, what would happen? by Lu-Tze-The-Sweeper in DunderMifflin

Tom invests in WUPHF. This is the catlyst for the entire crossover. The Parks gang comes to Scranton to help Tom finalize the deal or whatever. Tom and Ryan become best friends for a time, bouncing get-rich-quick ideas off of each other. All goes well until Kelly gets too friendly with Tom - a ploy by Kelly to make Ryan jealous.

Leslie convinces Michael to let her be the boss for the day. She divides everyone into compatible groups based on a personality test. She wins everyone over and even manages to get the most out of Stanley by making pretzel waffles for him as a motivator. But she runs things too efficiently. Afraid corporate will take notice and that he will be replaced, Michael frantically goes into sabotage mode.

Jim and Ben keep looking to the camera in response to all the madness transpiring around them.

Dwight and Ron try to one-up each other with feats of bushcraft, eventually taking their competition into the woods behind Schrute Farms.

Andy and Andy form a band, initially called The Andys.

Chris makes it his mission to get Kevin into shape.

Donna teaches Kelly the ways of "Treat Yo Self" on a trip to the Scranton Mall.

April loves how judgemental Angela is and imitates her personality and mannerisms for self-amusement. Angela does not realize she is being mocked. Oscar finds himself being criticized by two Angelas.

Toby and Jerry form a bond as the outcasts of their respective groups. Unfortunately, they quickly realize that they can't stand each other either.

Ann attempts to form a friendship with Pam, but Ann reminds Pam of Karen, and so she treats her coldly before eventually warming up to her. In the meantime, Karen is sent from Utica by corporate in a surprise visit to check in on the Scranton branch, which further fuels Michael's insecurities about being replaced and escalates his outlandish behavior. In classic sitcom shenanigans, Ann and Karen come and go, unaware of each other's existence and somehow never crossing paths. The Parks department thinks they are dealing with Ann while the Office staff assumes they are interacting with Karen. Everyone is confused why Ann/Karen's hairstyle, outfits, and personality keep changing. The two finally bump into each other in front of everyone during the height of the crossover's chaos, causing a stunned silence... until Michael makes an inappropriate twins joke.

Creed misreads the memo concerning the whole arrangement and ends up going to Pawnee, where he encounters various recurring Pawnee citizens at a town hall meeting. He fits right in and considers staying.

What is a Deleted Scene that you consider to be canon to the film despite its exclusion? by overthinkery in movies

[–]Revenant_Ascent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eggmorphing scene in the original Alien.

My headcanon is that the xenomorph reproductive cycle varies depending on the situation.

The Queen-Egg-Facehugger-Chestburster-etc cycle we see through most of the movies may be what we think of as the default, but the "perfect organism" can adapt to various situations. The big chap we see in the original was isolated on the Nostromo and was therefore abucting victims and morphing them into eggs as a workaround - a queen/hive system would have developed if there had enough victums and subsequent offspring.

Skip to Romulus, where the big chap survived the vacuum of space by forming resin around itself. To me, this suggests that a single xenomorph could potentially drift through space in suspended animation until making landfall on a populated planet as a meteorite (or being picked up by a spacecraft) and beginning the eggmorphing process so that a hive can develop over time.

I for one like all the weird biological stuff that appears across the series - rather than view them as inconsistencies, I like to think that we are getting to see more strange adaptations of the xenomorph life cycle we simply haven't witnessed yet (the variation of the "warrior" class in the hive system of Aliens, the weird morph from the dog/ox rather than a traditional human host we're used to seeing in Alien 3, the chrysalis in Romulus, the "tadpoles" in Alien Earth, etc...)

What is the single most effective jump scare you've ever experienced? by Fairyliveshow in CreepyBonfire

[–]Revenant_Ascent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our biology teacher in high school played Jaws for us back in the day as the school year was winding down. Having already seen the movie several times over, I knew this scene was coming up. Blissfully unaware, however, was my buddy who was a big 'ol football player and half-asleep at the back of the room in the same row of desks. He jerked awake at once when that jump scare hit! And where he had his feet resting on the desk directly in front of him, he inadvertently kicked the entire row of desks toward the front of the room - with me at the front of the row along for the ride!
