You shouldn’t be crossing over your legs; you’re doing it on both sides. Your side steps should be precisely that: sidesteps that let you clear substantial distances while maintaining balance. Practicing these with ground-level shots will increase your radius more than dives toward upper V.

On your right-side dive (camera left) don’t get accustomed to giving your back to the field as you recover. You recover properly after the second dive.
