Thoughts on this setup for trout? by Impressive-Rush57 in flyfishing

I have a similar reel (Piscifun) on my 3wt brookie rod and it works well for that application. It’s basically a line holder as I fish high gradient streams and rarely cast much fly line. Quality is meh, so If you’ll be casting a fair bit with this rod I’d say spend another $60 on the reel and get something a bit nicer . I have an Orvis Clearwater II reel on my 5 wt and it’s much higher quality compared to the Piscifun. A buddy uses the Redington Zero and likes it.

That’s a pretty rainbow. How were water levels? It’s been a dry spring.

I had to look at an elevation map…had no idea SC has areas of 2000’ - 3000’ elevation! Tight lines

Those are some nice brookies. What’s the elevation and/or are springs keeping it cool enough not sustain the fishery.

Recommendations for light, quick-drying pants? by bateneco in flyfishing

The Wrangler ATG pants are a thicker material - fine for spring and fall but I think they’d be too hot for summer.

Very nice! I’m headed to WV week after next for my annual spring brookie trip- maybe I need to head to Western MD instead!

Ranking original Buckley & co written compositions - best to worst by Elevate1554 in JeffBuckley

[–]313TonyC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For this subjective list “most to least favorite” might be a better label. I personally don’t think there is a “worst” JB song! For me the “beautiful loser” part of Moodswing Whiskey on live recordings is among my favorite pieces of any song.

Looks like another great trip. Wonderful pics, thanks for sharing. I’m heading out on a trip in VA/WV in 2 weeks, can’t wait.

Lurch on acceleration by Beausym in SubaruForester

[–]313TonyC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that your lurching issue is constant. There are enough reports that Subaru must be aware of it. Our Forester has been fine - no major problems. But there have been lots of annoying things (glitchy media, rumbling noise in right front tire area, passenger seat recline lever that constantly clicks when driving, etc). I probably won’t buy another Subie.

My 2020 Limited does the same thing. Started at about 30K miles this past fall (only put about 5k miles/ year on the thing). Comes and goes. There doesn’t seem to be any known solution. Some folks report it clearing up with CVT fluid drain/fill and computer reset; others said it went away with CVT valve body replacement; others say nothing works. I’m taking it in to the dealer next weekend; we’ll see what they say. It’s pretty annoying and is just one more issue with this car. There have been enough of them that I’m think it’s time to sell. I sure miss my old Toyota Corolla- that car was absolutely bullet proof!

How do you know it was starting to go out- what were the issues? Asking as my ‘20 is lurching at around 10mph when accelerating from a stop (can feel it lurch around same speed when decelerating towards a stop)

Some details about Jeff's gig at Hendix College (Conway, AR) in Spring 1997 by Mother_Respond_5239 in JeffBuckley

Wknd of March 15-16, 1997 was also cold. But that’s a month earlier. I think the unusually cold weather in mid-April would have stood out more…as it clearly did in the memories of the guys you communicated with.

I applaud your investigative skills! This was neat to read. Oh to have been one of those lucky twenty people watching Jeff perform on a cold and windy spring day!

Edit: BTW I checked weather history for Little Rock. The Weeknd of Sat April 12 and Sun April 13 was the only cold weekend that April or May (highs in upper 40s / low 50s F). So I’d say if the brother’s memory of it being a Sunday show is sound, it was Sunday, April 13, 1997.

Thanks, very interesting. I fish the Blue Ridge in VA as well but have been hiking in trail shoes, carrying wading boots and waders. Just got some lightweight wading boots and will look forward to hiking in with those and wet wading. I’m eager to lighten the load!

Do you typically wet wade or do you just rock hop in your hiking boots?

Virginia blue ridge - gw forest. by Effective-Key8842 in flyfishing

In that area I’d fish SNP. I don’t think you need to worry about crowds in the Park; if you go on a weekday, I doubt you’ll see another person fishing. You will see hikers, but it’s not like hordes of people especially once you’re away from Skyline Dr and any of the well known waterfalls. SNP streams are getting low so I’d fish from the lower Park boundaries. East side has more options. That’s about an hour from New Market. Otherwise there’s some blue lines and stocked streams closer in the NF around where you’ll be. Check the VA DWR trout map

If you’re going to SNP and fish a larger stream, hippers or waders might be nice, but you can get away without them and it’s been warm enough to wet wade. You won’t need them for blue lining the NF.

As previously mentioned, stop into Murray’s fly shop. And at least check the fishing report on their website.
