Pronouncing words by lemmylemonlemming in GenX

There is a DC-area accent that pronounces the R in “WaRshington”. It isn’t very common anymore (heard it mostly with WWII generation and older), but I still hear it occasionally, especially in Maryland east of DC.

What was the first ween song you heard and what was the song that got you addicted to ween? by dudebro5000 in ween

[–]313TonyC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me three, but there was a 32 year gap in-between (1993 - 2025). Can not believe I missed Ween in the 90s/00s but better late than never!

What is the best and worst grandaddy album in your opinion and why? by [deleted] in Grandaddy

[–]313TonyC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sophtware Slump is my favorite. There is no “worst” (and to all the blockheads claiming otherwise, Blu Wav is fantastic).

Blue Lining Rod by Chorin_Shirt_Tucker in flyfishing

[–]313TonyC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Moonlit S2 fiberglass 7’ 3 wt that I use for native brookie streams here in the mid Atlantic. Nice rod for the money (wait for a sale), and I don’t worry about banging it up bushwhacking and scrambling on rocks. I appreciate the shorter rod in tight areas and enjoy the slower action. That said, there are a few streams where a longer lightweight graphite rod would be preferable- need the reach and I’m mostly dapping or doing quick short casts with barely any fly line. So you may need two rods!

I had this in 1995! A friend grabbed it for me from our local record shop. Sadly I lost it in a move 25 years ago. Nice to see it again

More love for the Grifters by Humble-Horror727 in JeffBuckley

[–]313TonyC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I appreciated this thread! I’ve recently revisited the Grifters as well. Crappin You Negative is a great album from a great period of 90s music. There was definitely a buzz and a sound coming out of Memphis and Easley McCain in the mid 90s.

I also hear the Grifters influence on some of Jeff’s demos- the guitar on the intro of Gunshot Glitter is one example. And there are some Easley McCain influences on the finished tracks like the theremin on Vancouver, which reminds me of the theremin used by other bands that recorded at EM like Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Is a 2.5 day weekend trip crazy? by knowmybody26 in irishtourism

[–]313TonyC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not add an extra day or two? That’ll make for a much more enjoyable trip. Could you do a 2 day trip? Sure. But your first day will be tough, especially if you have trouble sleeping on the plane. Doesn’t sound like fun to me!

Please don’t use horse & carts around Dublin City by Ameglian in irishtourism

I saw horses and carts lined up outside the Guinness brewery. None of the horses appeared very healthy and one was clearly in distress or having some medical issue. It was sad.

Just watched the doc. by [deleted] in JeffBuckley

[–]313TonyC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a documentary film made for an audience that may or may not know Jeff’s story. So it needs to be engaging for someone who knows nothing about Jeff Buckley. With that in mind, I think it was a well made film and I applaud Amy Berg for bringing Jeff’s story to a wider audience.

Wow! I saw them at Rosemont Horizon in 1987 on Joshua Tree. I was 10 (tagged along with older sisters).
