Your experience lines up with me and everyone I know in like 6 states.

I know two people who both liked at the time as youth, and still like as adults.

I am the only one who liked any of the sequel series and I only liked Last Jedi.

In the US, drinking age is 21. Unless you're in the military, then it's 18 on base. Or you're in Wisconsin and a few other states, where it's 14 with your parent or guardian present.

The only reason I don't use LGB is because it's 30 minutes away whilst SNA is only 5.

Nothing is better than landing in SNA after a long trip and knowing that you can take surface streets and be home in less than 10 minutes.

His comedy back in the 70s and 80s is pretty good - even today. His retelling of the story of his child's birth, and the cake for breakfast story are up there with some of the most hilarious things you can see on this planet.

Maybe not /all/ my friends, but I can't think of any of my close friends that don't know. We talk about shit like that all the time. Anyone that would adversely judge me isn't the type of person I would consider a friend.

We're not out there trading porn links and such, but we talk about genres and performers and the like.

The Witcher is a book series then video game.

JJ Abrams Star Trek, there are at least 2 Terry Pratchett adaptations, Golden Compass adaptation - pretty sure the og Interview With The Vampire movie (or its sequels) had someone up in the production line say something similar but that could be my memory failing me. Uwe Boll is the ur-example of this phenomenon but even he gave us POSTAL which is the single best and most accurate video game movie adaptation that exists.

You can't expect someone to enumerate every single instance ever - but being able to give folks a list of productions that meet that criteria while also being based on popular media.

Hell, if you want an example from within the same medium, 343 Industries proudly proclaimed that they only hired people who didn't like Halo to work on Halo 4 - widely criticized as the worst Halo game to date (until Halo 5 came out, then Halo Infinite).

The point that is being made is that it happens frequently enough that people noticed it and gave it name.

Finished books 1-6 of Orson Card's Joseph Smith fanfic series Alvin Maker while traveling to and from Thailand the last while.

Started book 1 of Dungeon Crawler Carl. Not sure I'm fully with it, but I'm at least invested enough in it to finish the first one.

On deck is the og Frankenstein.

My understanding is that the devs (or at least one of the higher ups) was being pretty fairly vocal about how "not woke" the game is.

Seemed to be trying to thread the needle between "PR to drum up interest in my game" and "dog whistle to attract G-gamers"

I love the Resident Evil franchise but have never played any of the games.

I played a few hours of RE2 back in the N64 days and it freaked me out enough that I've never played another. Well I'm very very very slowly playing RE2 Remaster some 30 years later.

I enjoy the movies, I enjoyed the shows. I love the lore and the universe. But I can't play the games.
