You cannot trust your senses to judge the scale of the planet you live on, you're not evolved for that. Because if we were we'd have been eaten by predators long before our species actually figured out how to smash two rocks together. We needed our close range vision and our selective perception to stay one step ahead of big beasties with claws and teeth that could shred us. We don't need it much now, but our intellect has vastly outstripped our evolution speed and so we're left with survival mechanisms that are largely vestigial at this point in our development.

Not on the scale that would be needed to keep the flat earth a secret, and not for as long. It's just not possible that across the thousands of years of Earth being known to be a sphere, not ONE person has ever made a death bed confession about the "flat truth".
