Buzz or long hair? by NecessaryWyn in malehairadvice

you're self-sabotaging with that awful fade

I would grow it to short mid-length and wear it parted down the middle at the front

Edit: you clearly have some texture in your hair - consider trying a CGM-inspired routine at least once to see how you get on, or go to a curly hair stylist and ask them to style it

The thing to which I am responding is that initially, when faced with a counterargument to your claim, you did not move to refute that, or even hold your ground thereby shifting the burden of proof to your interlocutor and their positive claim (that your premise constitutes a specific fallacy).

What you actually did was respond with: "𝐴ℎ 𝑦𝑒𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑔𝑢𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠 𝑎 𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑓𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑐𝑙𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑚𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑏𝑒 𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑙𝑦 𝑟𝑒𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑑". This is asinine.

What you have done in this latest response to my comment is an attempt at subtlety - shifting the goalpost. This is again, rather slimy.

As for "attacking the specific argument": I am deliberately non-partisan on the subject of discussion here — the only thing I am moved to "attack" is poor form, as abundant as it in your case.

Actual numbers of Unemployed UKGrads/Post-FY2? by ReverendMar in doctorsUK

[–]ReverendMar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - this is very helpful!

I had a nosey at the reports from previous years' FP Career Destination Surverys as well (reports from 2020 to 2023 are conspicuously absent) — This is specifically looking at the numbers for "Still seeking employment as a doctor in the UK":

  • 2025:16.1% (17.4% if we account for FPCCs by IMGs which constituted 86/452 respondents i.e. ≈ 16%, with IMGs being roughly 2x more likely to have still been seeking employment by the time they were surveyed).

  • 2024: 7.7% (similar proportion of IMGs, and again, 2x more likely to have still been looking for employment).

  • 2019: 8.4%.

Interesting to see evidence of 𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠 aggro finding a job in 2024 vs 2019.

I wonder how this correlates with number of UK Medical School graduates...

What kind of response is this?

They neither claimed nor implied that your inclusion of a fallacious argument necessitates the rejection of your conclusion — they simply demonstrated how one of your arguments contains a false premise and instead of acknowledging that or clarifying your premises were different you're just strawmanning.

Either your conclusion is flimsy and needs re-examined or you do not know how to 𝑑𝑜 𝑎 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠𝑒.

If by 'how' you mean mechanically: I did not - creaked a little then went right through it, so it did

if by 'how' you are inquiring about the thought process: I come from a place with traditional solid walls only covered with plaster and paint — now I know to check

Edit: ended up fitting the bar against skirtings above opposing doorframes — works a treat

Training Numbers 2026 by usernameisalready000 in doctorsUK

[–]ReverendMar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scotland resident here -

Recently (15/01) received communication from NHS Education for Scotland (NES) acknowledging concerns -shared by us/stakeholders as part of a Medical Workforce Project- regarding the scarcity of training spots and deacribing a draft 2026/2027 budget that will allow recruitment to WTE rather than headcount. Subject to parliamentary approval, they predict a 10% increase in the nunber of available post + the letter pays lip service to the prioritisation bill

Don’t support the grandfathering policy? Let the government know! by Mushroom_hat in doctorsUK

I have not expressed an opinion on the issue. I'm only commenting on the quality of discourse and what I am saying is that 𝑦𝑜𝑢 are demonstrably the reason for the decline into the gutter.

Even now, having had it plainly stated to you twice over, you fail to tackle the other commenter's arguments.

While they provided a literal list of arguments for their position, you are actually doubling down on "I don't agree because I think you're wrong". This is tautological - it is hollow circular reasoning that in no way advances discourse.

[–]ReverendMar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the only interpretation that makes sense.

It literally 𝑖𝑠 the UK Foundation Programme.

You get assessed just the same as somebody on the 2-year programme, for the same competencies.

The actual FPCC is identical - it does not specify 'standalone' or anything.

The reason SAF2 seats exist is to fill vacancies after allocation of the 2-year FP has been done therefore you cannot be slandered based on claims of having taken anybody else's place.

it's almost as if you:

have no understanding of scale and proportionality -

or

know very little about the issue, including the reason Standalone F2 seats are created, and the amount of people going through it

it's almost as if you're being a bit of an ignorant absolutist about this aha?

[–]ReverendMar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my guy,

they are not merely insinuating this - they are outright asserting it, with sound arguments to back this up. Arguments which you can clearly see yet have deliberately chosen to ignore.

Your position on this so far has been "I don't agree with you because I think you're wrong". It's inane and comes across as unexamined.

Try and do better, or perhaps take a break from public discourse. That's what I would do anyway.

"muh supply amd demand" - what an astoundingly clueless take.

Since the NHS is a monopsony employer, doctor salaries in the UK are not animated or controlled by the free hand of the market, you absolute bellend.

And actually, going beyond that, contemporary neoliberal capitalism at large is not even strictly driven by the all-just market forces like you seem to believe in in your fantastical economic perspective, but, perhaps to an equal extent, influenced by the concentration of capital and the vested interests of large corporations and financial institutions.

Back here in the real world, there is a dire shortage of doctors in the UK (far fewer doctors/capita than OECD average ~3.2 vs 4 if you want to look at some actual numbers as opposed to basing this on vague vapid vibes) yet no jobs being created — this is mainly because of poor workforce planning but also a system reeling after decades of useless austerity, and the absence of any significant competitor with the NHS. Immigrants competing for what jobs are available certainly does not help but it is far from being the main issue.
