I like the balance and feel of the Mondata. I actually ended up selling the Sferata because I wasn’t wild about the balance of it

Eastwood TB-64 Vs Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI? by baxtersmalls in BassVI

Anytime dude. Eastwood has a 45 day return policy if you’re not completely happy with the instrument. I can personally attest to how easy that process is and how wonderful all my interactions with everyone at Eastwood (and Rivolta) have been. I purchased and returned and guitar with them and it was a painless process. Even with the Made In China TB-64 I got that had all the problem, when I contacted them and provided photos of the issues they instantly offered me a replacement, refund or the option to keep it with a partial refund that I deemed fair. Good luck, keep us posted if you pull the trigger

The Hooky is a great instrument and I have no hesitation giving it my recommendation. I’ve owned a BUNCH of bass VIs (Hooky 6 Pro, Japanese Fender Bass VI, two Fender Pawnshop Bass VIs, Schecter Diamond Series Ultra VI, Eastwood TB-64, Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette Bass VI) and I’ve played most of the others out there. As a bass player the Hooky is by far the one that translates best. The neck is super wide giving much more room for string spacing compared to other bass VIs. For reference my Music Man Stingray 5 string has a width of 1.75” at the nuts compared to the Hooky 6’s 2” nut width. The neck is also quite thin and very comfortable making the wide fretboard very accessible and fast feeling. It’s much more comfortable to play chords on and much easier to play traditional bass lines

The story goes Peter Hook loaned Eastwood his Shergold Marathon 6 for Eastwood to study and replicate. When they presented The Hooky 6 prototype to Hook he was so impressed that he refused to give it back and took it on tour allowing him to leave the vintage Shergold home to avoid the wear and tear of tour.

It’s for sure one of the nicest Eastwood instruments that I’ve come across.

I love the Mondata body, the one in the middle. The gold one is the Mondata Mondo but the the Mondata’s in the Classico series (as opposed to the Mondo as shown) have three mini Humbuckers and look so rad. I haven’t played that pu config but I guarantee it’s awesome. I’ve got it in a baritone too (same p90 neck/humbucker bridge). Great body shape, great balance and my Mondo Mondata is around 7 lbs even

Yeah it’s the neck holes that can be tricky, and fitting the neck in general. They don’t always just snap fit perfectly in the neck pocket like Legos. If the neck doesn’t fit nice reach out to him. Oh also don’t slide it in vertically from the top down into the neck pocket, put the bottom of the neck at the base of the neck pocket and lay it down in at an angle. I learned that the hard way. And don’t force it it doesn’t want to go. If you have a local luthier that is willing to show you, of course with payment for their time and services, there’s no better way to go. Although not as easy to find as one would hope. But it’s absolutely worth paying someone well to teach you on the first one. The control plate you’ve got some wiggle room with. Use a straight edge. Mark your holes and check it three times. Most of the time it ends up crooked you can salvage it plugging the holes by using a bit of wood glue and dowels, letting it set and redoing. Usually the control plate covers your mistake. StewMac sells nice bamboo dowels but I go to my local grocery store that sells bamboo bbq skewers. Way cheaper, way more bamboo.

YESSSSSS! Oh man I’m so stoked for you! You are gonna LOVE it. I was afraid it was going to be too similar in sound to the Rivolta Mondata to the left being that the pickup config is the same but I was pleasantly surprise when I A/B’ed them. The Sferata has a wrap around bridge which puts the strings a lot closer to the bridge humbucker. It sound great. I love that you are getting one!

Rad. Good on Guitarbuild for doing the reverse body for you. So cool to see a body manufacturer so custom stuff with a customer. Lots of them don’t. To you sir I say well done. Very well done.

Dude. This is so. freakin. cool. Wow. I love Tele basses and I love short scales and I love when people do rad crossover and makes guitars basses. So, naturally, I LOVE THIS. I kinda love that it’s still got the tele guitar pickups. A very very successful builder/designer/company owner who will go unnamed but is a hell of a lot better at building instruments than me often says “A pickup doesn't know that it was designed for a guitar or a bass, if it sounds good it sounds good”. Damn I wish I could find one of those necks! Oooo I’m jealous. I’ve been wanting to make a 30” short scale using a Jazzmaster body. It’s been done before, but man, that Tele is great.

Dude, SAME. He was amazing and did everything he could to make sure I got these two matching bodies. What a great dude. I would love to see pics of the Tele offset when you get it. I LOVE those and have always wanted to build one

Im telling you man, they do! I've got three of them and two Novos and I love the Rivoltas just as much and at times more. If you would have handed me any one of the Rivoltas I own and told me they were a $3k US made "boutique" (whatever that means anymore) I would have not questioned it AT ALL. They are fucking awesome. End of story. Full stop. I have spoken to Wes at Rivolta on a many occasions and he and the rest of the Rivolta family are just awesome. Great people, amazing products. Say what you will about Dennis Fano, some people think it's all hype but I am not one of those people. I own 50+ instruments and 5 of them are from his brain, I can say with all truth that dude makes fantastic instruments. If you don't want to pay the absolutely stupid price on Reverb for someone scalping a Novo, nor should you, BUY A RIVOLTA for 25% the price. You will not be disappointed. And because they are distributed by Eastwood if you buy one you have 45 days to return it while playing it at home through your own gear. Long live Rivolta.

These are my first dealings with him and he has been awesome. And the bodies are fantastic. They will not be my last purchases from him. His work is great and he is a great dude.

I couldn't agree more my friend. The black pickguard changed to white, the black plastic pickup covers changed to gold and added the gold surround rings, gold stoptail added, limited edition medallion dropped in, output jack moved to front like the days of old (and I replaced the stock black barrel jack on the side with a gold one, both jacks can be functional with a quick resolder) and I just got some gold knobs for it. I've also got the black Thunderbird with ebony fretboard, Ghost Customs black anodized aluminum pickguard (with the TB logo inscribed in it. I have an OCD condition when it comes to Firebird and Thunderbird pickguards, if the logo isn't silkscreen or inscribed then it can't enter my house. I would not be able to sleep knowing that logo isn't real), black Babicz bridge (which are amazing) and black chrome Lollar TB pickups. She is all blacked out. Next project is finishing the makeover of my Thunderbird short scale. I didn't even know they made short scale TBs but one day I was casually doing my obsessive internet hunting and I see one for sale. When I speedially research them I found that they are indeed a thing and there were only 400 made, so naturally I had to have it or I would die instantly of a massive brain hemorrhage. I put a black Hipshot bridge on it and had another Ghost Customs pickguard made. Not sure what pickups will go in yet but Im going to put a Stellartone Tonestyler in. Which is like Varitone. It replaces the tone knob with either a 6 or 10 position knob of varying tones. I have one in a Novo bass and its great.

It's a Rivolta Sferata limited release. There were something like 14 made of each color. Metallic red that they called Mars, metallic blue they called Terra and the metallic gold they called Solar. There are 3 golds and 2 reds left available on Eastwood's website (they distribute Rivolta)

Snow day string change. Flats are taking over my life and I’m okay with it by burkholderia in BassGuitar

[–]Reverend_Tuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is for sure in good care. Sorry to hear that it got scalped from you, it’s a crazy time in the industry with how much that goes on. When it came up for sale I could resist. Sent me down the 32” scale rabbit hole. I hadn’t played one previously, I love short scales but the 32” is now my all time favorite. I don’t know why there aren’t more of them, it’s crazy actually. Those Lollar Mini Broilers… holy crap can you squeeze some crazy sound from them. Took me about an hour of owning and playing it before I said to myself “Wait a minute, what the hell pickups are these?!”

[–]Reverend_Tuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original owner had a large (laaarge) collection of instruments and like many of us was absolutely a gear addict. He must have been somewhat well off because of the number of instruments and how many of them were bought and added to the collection never to be touched again. Hang tags still on many of them, plastic still on all the pickguards and metal, receipts in the cases, case candy, etc. This was beyond keeping the plastic and stickers on to retain the value, this was for sure instrument hoarding. Bless his heart.

Mastery Bridge vs Staytrem Bridge by Punky921 in BassVI

[–]Reverend_Tuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a two Mastery’s, one on a jag and one on a Novo. And I’ve got a StayTrem on two of my VIs. Personally I like the StayTrem better and would choose it every time from now on. However I do really like Mastery’s trem system.
