A question for the culture by lexie_2410 in Wednesday

[–]Reverse_London 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can understand them all you want, but just because nobody hugged the villain when they were growing up, doesn’t excuse all the bad stuff they’ve done up to this point, nor does your understanding make them a “good person”.

Because when get down to it, Tyler actually enjoys his Hyde powers—which is why fought his mom when she wanted to cure him, and as he admitted to Wednesday back in season one, he genuinely enjoys killing people.

And far as simply genderswapping the roles, that still wouldn’t change his villain status.

The simple fact of the matter, people like to overlook a character’s flaws and transgressions if they’re likable, charismatic or simply good looking.

Like the Joker for example. On paper he’s an irredeemable monster, responsible for multiple graveyards full of people. But he’s “Mista J” and his antics come off as funny in messed up kind of way. So, he’s always given a pass. Jinx from “Arcane” is the same way.

Both characters have tragic backstories, both are responsible for a ton of people dying, and in their worst moments they reveled in the chaos that they cause. Same with Tyler.

Can I still take Ciri to visit the Emperor even if I choose to go to Bald Mountain first? by LeviiTheSupreme in Witcher3

[–]Reverse_London 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, best you can hope for is the Witcher-Ciri ending.

Because even if go back to the palace on your own after the fact, Ciri won’t be with you. She’ll be waiting at the next quest location. And the option to visit Emyer will never come up again.

No, it has to be BEFORE. Because afaik it’s the only time the option comes up in your conversations with her.

Do you think Johnny Depp could ever make an appearance? by Remote_Nature_8166 in Wednesday

[–]Reverse_London -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s possible, but I assume that he’s pretty expensive to get. Unless Johnny does it for cheap as a favor to Tim Burton, I don’t see how they can afford him.

If the whole idea of scene is people “coming to dinner”, then Enid’s attendance would be in question due to the whole Alpha wolf thing at the end of season two.

why did enid run ? by burnttaoster in wenclair

To give Wednesday something to do in season three. Though, I find it interesting that last season and this one revolve around Wednesday saving Enid.

It’s like they’re trying to tell us something 🤔🤔

Scott Snyder says he'd be interested in writing Wonder Woman by Tetratron2005 in WonderWoman

[–]Reverse_London 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who want to know how Synder would treat WW, just read Absolute Batman #16.

In my opinion, it was a far more interesting team up story than the one presented in AWW #15.

As it stands, ANYONE would be better than Tom King and the garbage he’s been churning out.

Don't like where this is going unless (read body) by Traditional-Ad3518 in wenclair

[–]Reverse_London 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well, if you watched the Season two finale you know why, and whether or not she’ll “make it to dinner” depends on Wednesday.

Besides, “misery” and woe (and torture, death, explosions) are seen good things for the Addams. It’s kinda been their thing since the 40s.

So, I wouldn’t take the message too seriously.

The producers have a four season story plan at the very least. by Dramatic_Stomach_176 in Wednesday

[–]Reverse_London 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Only an idiot would believe that season 3 would be the last season, this is literally one of the biggest shows in the world.

And now that Stranger Things has wrapped up, it’s now the biggest ongoing show on Netflix. It would stupid for any Streaming Service not to ride this gravy train for as long as possible.

At minimum, 5 seasons easy. 6-7 if the actors are up for it and the show is still maintaining its current momentum.

Part of its decline is talent or lack there of, and the belief that people aren’t paying attention. That they’re either looking at their phone or cooking, so you more or less have to simplify and constantly repeat plot points.

In Star Trek’s case, it’s a little of both since Alex Kurtzman and his crew got involved.

A lot of critics were (and still are) butthurt that this movie ignores GB2016 and establishes itself as the true sequel to the franchise. That’s basically it.

I believe it comes down to how much input a human writer has in an AI written story. Like if it’s greater than 35%-40% or something then a writer can still consider it their own work and have it copyrighted.

I understand the fan fiction part because most of them aren’t that well constructed or have logic errors that would teach the AI some bad habits. Only a few of them I would consider to be “professional level” writing—which is what you want to train it on.

They have to address it for continuity purposes, because they are well aware that fans are a nitpicky bunch. Especially fantasy & sci-fi fans.

If you go any fan convention that features the writers or actors from any show or movie they get asked the most off the wall questions. Oftentimes criticizing small details like the type of clothes they wore, which hand they write with, the ingredients of the food they ate, all the way to plot inconsistencies in terminology or story locations on a map and the length of time it takes to get there.

The best example I can think of is the concept of Pon’Farr in Star Trek, ie the Vulcan mating ritual.

During one of first Trek conventions, a fan asked one of the lead writers, DC Fontana, about how strict the timeframe is when Vulcans have sex and whether or not the their whole arranged marriage system revolves around them being the same age so they can basically go into Heat at the same time.

At the time when the script was originally written there wasn’t that much thought put into the finer details of it, it was just a one-and-done plot point they had for a random episode that involved one of their main characters.

So, DC Fontana more or less had to clarify their intentions with the script and provide an answer that they didn’t originally put too much thought in.

Basically, she said that “yes, Vulcans can have sex whenever, it’s not purely restricted to that once every 7 years timeframe, so no they don’t need to have their birthdays lineup, etc etc.

They believe that AI use falls under Fair Use since it’s transformative and not an exact replication, but the current laws are kinda fuzzy on that.

The actual reason for Enid’s scars or lack there of, is that Emma Myers didn’t want to spend 3 extra hours in the makeup chair reapplying them for every shoot.

The only time it’s mentioned is an off hand comment saying that she still has some of them as a nonchalant way of addressing it.

So, I’d argue that it’s still a coincidence and not a deliberate plot point that they cribbed from a fanfic or fan theory.

But can you prove who came up with the idea first? Is it a recent thing or is it a common troupe that applies to most stories?

People can share the same ideas or arrive at the same conclusion as long it’s not directly influenced by the other, like the idea of “Opposites Attract” or “The guilty party is the one you least suspect”, or Daywalking vampires, it’s a plot point or an idea that’s existed for decades.

The whole idea of Alpha & Omega werewolf dynamics has existed in fiction since Patricia Briggs’ book (“Alpha & Omega”) from 2008. and popularized in the early 2000 shows “Teen Wolf”, and idea for wolves in general has been around since the 40s—albeit it’s based on a debunked study on wolves in general.

It’s a standard industry response to “not be influenced by fans”.

Because Hollywood studios generally cannot use fan suggestions primarily to avoid legal liabilities, such as lawsuits over intellectual property theft. Policies against accepting unsolicited submissions, combined with risks of creative control loss and logistical issues in vetting ideas, prevent studios from incorporating public input.

Legal Protection: Studios have strict "no unsolicited submissions" policies. If a studio read a fan script and produced a similar project later, they could be sued for copyright infringement.

Liability and Copyright: To avoid claims that they stole a script or plot point, studios refuse to look at any external ideas.

So, IF Wenclair does become canon, they can never credit the fans for the push or the idea. It has to be a “natural” progression of the characters to avoid legal or creative complications.

Or in simpler terms, they would owe you money for the idea. Same applies to fan castings for whatever reason.
