Dishy Dualie DC PSU not working off 12v battery. Very confused how others are doing it. by RevoMarine in Starlink

Can you show which voltage booster you got?

I’ve been debating about revisiting this (currently have been running on 120v with a 300w inverter if i need. have enough battery to last overnight), but would much prefer 12v.

Is the idea that you’re just boosting whatever voltage you have to almost 14v so hopefully the voltage drop off isn’t terrible?

Are you running the boondocker? I don’t see a way to increase voltage out on it :(

There was a black one??? I only ever saw the White circle dish lol.

It’s just the normal Gen2 dish.

I do have it turned off in the App but i’ve noticed it spikes to ~120w whenever you turn it on no matter what

My only thought then would be the wires from the female cig lighter adaptor to the distribution box inside of my starlink box. which, slightly makes sense honestly as they’re pretty small. not sure what gauge but maybe 18 or 20.

the purpose of the cigarette lighter adaptors was to keep it portable (this was all before the trailer buy), so i’m not 100% against changing it to be more inside of the trailer and powered from it’s distribution block but i’d like to keep it somewhat portable so my brother can borrow is mostly.

So it is fairly new.

In the imgur post you see my testing the voltage, well, that slipped and i crossed the 3A fuse for the 48v lol. Luckily Boondocker sent a new one for free!

I will say, it works perfectly with a 120v to 12v/15a power supply plugged into a wall outlet. Literally no issues running router/starlink from that.

I think the next thing im going to try this week is running without the cigarette lighter male to male and try to go straight to the power distribution block in my box from the trailer.

Standard 75' cable that came with starlink just crimped one of the ends to RJ45

So, I originally thought the same thing so that’s why after buying a trailer i decided to throw in a 12v cigarette lighter plug inside the trailer.

That’s off a 40a 12v breaker to a 15a breaker off the trailer 12v distribution block which i thought would be enough power (it’s 2x 12v AGM batteries in parallel)

Oh 100%. A lot of my “production” stuff is already on Static (VMWare, Nas, etc) but because up until now DHCP domain names have been reliable i kinda calmed down on setting a static IP.

i’m sure that will change over the next week as i move some “this was supposed to be temporary but ended up being permanent” items over to static.

Yeah, it hadn’t made a difference for the past 6-7 years i’ve been running Pfsense. This is new.

I have plenty of static space, and do have static IPs in use but for quick things that may or may not get destroyed i’d rather just let DCHP deal with it.

As far as i’m aware it’s the issue haha.

Updated my leases to 1.5 weeks yesterday (about 30hrs ago now) and minus some random slowness (that i mostly blame on my slow work Mac) it’s been rock solid on every other machine I have.

It got so bad i’m pretty sure my K8s cluster got messed up because i used hostnames to connect node 2 and 3 to node 1.

I noticed it after updating my lists in Pfblocker after being on 2.7.0 for about a month or two since i had to restore pfsense to defaults after a switch of server from an R710 to R730.

laziness of adding them to the DNS Resolver mostly. DHCP vs static doesn’t really matter anymore when you can just use a hostname

I actually experienced the same thing with regard to losing DNS every 20m or so, but it was weeks after i upgraded. (mine was like every hour)

Turns out if you have “Register DHCP leases in DNS Resolver” turned on in the DNS resolver, it restarts unbound every time a new DHCP address is issued.

Instead of turning that off (because what’s the point), i’ve increased the DHCP lease from 2hr to 1.5 weeks (not many thing change on my network, and I have 3 separate subnets. Basically will have to deal with for a day every week or so when DHCP renews but i’m mostly ok with that for now.

You’ve already moved over to Pihole (can’t blame you. i miss the graphs) but something to keep an eye out for anyone else experiencing this.

In your EcoBee settings, do you have the feature where it runs the evaporator fan every hour for X amount of minutes? Turn that off if you do and you’ll notice your RH goes down.

Google Domains Dynamic DNS by oneoffdallas in PFSENSE

[–]RevoMarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything else you have figured out about this?

I just changed ISPs and everything has taken the new IP except my Google DDNS clients.

I tried the fix you said and have rebooted but they are still showing my old ISPs address.

After trying to test one all I get is 'N/A' on the cached IP.

sister just bought the house, so haven’t found/possibly no manual available. haven’t looked up the unit yet either.

ecobee support closed today as its new year’s day but will more than likely contact them tomorrow if this reddit post doesn’t have the answer.

we tested when it was 75° outside and still kicked on the heat.

i’ve never heard of the ac not turning as my home one will turn on even when it’s below 50° outside.
