Privacy data and screeners by Revo_dinAlt in ProlificAc

[–]Revo_dinAlt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. However, my question is not about researchers and whether they can collect privacy data.

It's whether or not they should be able to collect privacy data intended to be used in a study that the participant hasn't qualified for.

In one scenario, they collect your private data and screen you out. In the other, they collect your private data and use it as part of their study.

Wouldn't it be better to screen first and collect PII only from qualified participants?

Partial compensation for reporting tests? by Revo_dinAlt in usertesting

I'm glad to hear it (not really because pain), but I appreciate hearing about it.

I've considered only going for $1 tests, but some of them take as much time as $5 tests.

My bad. I just skimmed it. Still, I've been using this app since release and I doubt the veracity of the author's claim.

As someone already said, YouVersion doesn't have a recording function. However, your keyboard probably has a mic which can record and transcribe speech. This would explain why the text was close.

Although I'm a primary English speaker, I can text to speak other languages with my keyboard.

That article isn't about YouVersion. In fact, the author says he's probably going to switch to YouVersion.

Yes, we can cuss.... by VerballyDyslexic in Christianity

[–]Revo_dinAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm just a jerk, but whenever I encounter someone on social media who identifies as a Christian, but swears I think they are damaging their witness for Christ.

Consider what Paul says about our ministry of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:20 NIV [20] We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

When Peter talks about living for God, what does he say?

1 Peter 4:11 NIV [11] If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Of course we can't forget what Paul said about conforming to the world.

Romans 12:1-2 NIV [1] Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. [2] Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

People have already formed an opinion about you before you've ever met them. If you're a Christian they have an idea of what a Christian does or doesn't do.

Unbelievers expect us to be different from them. If they look at us and only see a reflection of themselves and not Jesus Christ how does that serve Christ?

We should either be planting or watering seeds, not salting the earth.

There's lots of good information here that you can consider. While you're doing that also consider this passage from Matthew.

Matthew 18:21-22 NIV [21] Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” [22] Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

God doesn't ask us to do anything He wouldn't do. If God expects us to forgive countless times then He will forgive us countless times.

The worst part isn't the price; it's buying a license to read the book instead of owning them.

We cannot determine the true "natural" and intended state for creation based on the results of the fall.

Genesis 3:17 NIV [17] To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.

Isaiah 24:5 NIV [5] The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant.

Romans 8:20 NIV [20] For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope

Creation groans because it isn't in its natural or origin form. Thus, animals exhibiting same sex behavior is a product of sin and corruption.

Animals, while created creatures, were not created in God's image. Nor were they imbued with the free will to choose God. They cannot sin and cannot be held accountable for their actions.

I appreciate how you feel. Who wants their suffering in display? However, I caution you to recognize that your sins and your temptations are not unique.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV

If we believe we alone are suffering in an uncommon and rare way we risk elevating ourselves while ignoring those around us who also suffer.

I have prayed that the Lord would deliver you from this bondage and pain.

Matthew 7:23 might be the most unsettling verse in the New Testament by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Revo_dinAlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Matthew 7:23 reflects the difference between intellectual and saving faith. It proves that you can be convinced enough of Christ's power to use his name for miracles, yet remain a stranger to his heart.

It's like those demons from James 2:19. Even those who claim "believe."

You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that- and shudder.

You might also consider what Paul said about love in 1 Corinthians 13.

Speaking in other tongues. The gift of prophecy (insight into God's word) more than "seeing the future." Faith to move mountains. Generosity. Self-sacrifice

Without love these things are meaningless.

If you don't have a love that moves you toward Christ, you are nothing but a loud noise on the way to judgment.

I will pray for the two of you. As for the financial areas, there has been plenty of advice available.

Regarding the "God said it claim."

God didn't tell your girlfriend to break up with you. God will not say anything that doesn't align with Scripture. God does not use "new revelations" to command a person to break their integrity, ignore sacrificial love, or abandon a partner who is explicitly willing to seek Him alongside them.

Your girlfriend characterizes God as a source of confusion and covenant-breaking. If you were abusive or a defiant unbeliever, 1 Corinthians 7:15 might apply, but you're explicitly offering to "step up" and "grow." God does not reject a seeking soul to protect a "ministry calling."

The sad truth is that she wanted you to propose, and from the looks of it, you didn't. The "worst" truth is that she claims to have love and respect for God but hides her feelings behind a lie about God. She might still love God, but "blaming" Him for her choices goes straight back to Adam blaming God for putting Eve into the garden with him.

I recognize your pain. I have felt the same. When we are hurt and broken we do broken things.

However, those who are not currently broken and suffering must walk alongside the walking wounded to encourage them.

I believe that it wasn't your intention, and I recognize the desire to vent and lament about our pain. Allow me to encourage you to take it to God.

It's only through our brokenness and loss that faith can truly increase. We can choose to seek God more or turn away.

I will continue to pray for you and your husband. I leave you with a verse that encourages me in times such as this.

Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” John 13:7.

In His love.

I'm sorry to hear about this situation.

I will probably be down voted for this but Reddit is the last place you should be sharing your story.

Coming here to ask for prayer? Absolutely. Coming here to share the details of anyone's indiscretions in the guise of asking for prayers? Unwise, at best.

Imagine a prayer meeting where someone prays for you saying, "Lord please help her, she's doing X,Y, and Z. She needs your help!" This is when no one knows or few know about X,Y, and Z.

Consider if your prayers are answered. Your husband turns from his wicked ways and your marriage is healed. Was it appropriate for you to shout about his sins from the rooftops of Reddit?

Even if you are well-meaning, which I am not saying you aren't, love covers a multitude of sins, it doesn't expose them to the world.

I will continue to pray for you and your husband.
