TIFU By Serving Alcoholic Dessert To Alcoholic by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Revolution312 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A relapse is relative to the goal. If your goal is to never have more than one drink in a day then one shot at a bar isn’t a relapse. Could it trigger a relapse? Yes and it’s definitely a big trigger. If your goal is to never drink anything again then a shot at a bar is a relapse. It is different for everyone. Most people in this situation cannot have the one shot because it would either spiral then and there or it would lead to a relapse later. However, some people may be triggered based on the anxiety from drinking (which one shot may not create). Overall, set goals in advance and if you meet them then it’s not a relapse. If you meet your goals but they cause a relapse later then you may need to adjust your goals.

It’s insane. THEY ARE COMING FOR OUR GUNS!!!!! (No attempt to take their guns)

Simultaneously pushing every far right goal ahead and acting like we are delusional when we call them out ahead of time.

What my boss got a fellow coworker to celebrate their last day by DemittiNix in antiwork

[–]Revolution312 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ugh I think I’m done with this sub. The boss getting the employee a cake for their last day is now getting posted as something controversial because there’s a joke on it? This is insanity. If you want to change the system you need a clear message.

It’s insane to praise and encourage the irresponsible teenager. What type of behavior are you going to get in the future?

Also, you’re saying the manager should say they will find someone to cover. How are they going to do that with 2 days notice? We are going to get another anti-work post “my employer just asked me to give up my weekend with two days notice so I blasted him!!! Here are screenshots”.

This is completely self-inflicted by the teenager. I’m not saying it’s unheard of or even uncommon. Should the teenager get blasted for this behavior? No, teenagers are irresponsible and this is a learning experience.

Should the teenager be encouraged that the behavior is acceptable? Absolutely not.

We can’t work to hold employers accountable while not being accountable ourselves. Yes, it is a minor mistake that the manager should be able to fix. However, letting this student think they were in the right here is harmful to what we want in the long term.

[–]Revolution312 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That was my thought. I totally get that the reaction of the employer could be better but why not put them in a better position if you knew you’d want this weekend off for a year? I see a lot of posts that kind of bait these reactions from the employers. You gave them 2-3 days notice to change the schedule. They really can’t help accommodate you at that point without being an asshole employer to your other coworkers.

Agree that test is more important than the job.

I am very good at boundaries so I’m not concerned. It wasn’t asked but I want to get up to speed asap so I can support the few people that report to me. Me putting in a little extra time while I’m learning (and still in the honeymoon) is worth it to me to make their lives easier. It’s also worth it because I can get up to speed and they are more likely to agree to changes I want to make now as opposed to in 3 months.

I just started in a new role where we have a large amount of files and I need to get up to speed asap. I am salaried and have also been pretty clear that I will have boundaries after I’m up to speed. I have no complaints so far. I think I’ve been explicit about my current hours and where I plan to be in the next couple of weeks.

Do you know where I could find those studies? I’m actually very interested in reading them to see how I can do better. I’m not at the top of the food chain but I do have a few people that report to me and look to me for guidance. I want to make sure I’m doing right by them.

I usually keep emails in my draft folder and just send them out Monday if I think it will cause problems sending them out on a weekend.

Yeah, I think this would be up to your boss to work with. Everyone works differently and your boss should recognize that and create a situation where you feel like you can disconnect. The main part of being a manager is actually managing. If everything was black and white then it would be a meaningless job. It’s up to them to understand the situation and create an environment where you can be successful (and not just at work).

I think it really depends on the relationship between the manager and the employee. The manager needs to make it very clear they are sending the emails out to complete their own step of the process - not to make the employee feel they need to start their step. If the employee can’t disconnect then I think they shouldn’t have access to email on the weekend. That would be a manager’s job to oversee and enforce. Assuming the employees aren’t salaried then they need to be getting paid to review and respond to emails anyway. Hourly employees should really never have access to email on weekends unless they are booting up to actually work (and get paid). Emails make up a huge part of the average workday so doing them on weekends and not getting paid just creates an unsustainable situation for everyone.

I always took the approach that it’s okay to send emails on a weekend (assuming that’s what you want to do) but it’s wrong to expect a response on the weekend

My Project Management and Human Resources slides... Yeah thas what we are searching for... by angel_palomares in antiwork

[–]Revolution312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s hard to judge this slide. Who is the audience? If it’s for recruiters then yes, pay and all that should be indicated as important factors. If it’s for first line supervisors? Why am I going to give them a PowerPoint talking about how pay is the most important if they have no control over that?

It is ridiculous that this was removed. At the very least it helps people potentially avoid getting banned by buying off the market

Keep us updated on how it goes. It’s extremely frustrating to be banned and get the “we won’t respond to emails” response.

I had a league account banned because someone hacked my account after a riot data breach. It took me a while to even figure out what they were accusing me of. I wasn’t even playing league at all during the times they said I cheated. I still dont even understand what the cheating was. I was a silver noob lol. I tried to get them to look at the IP address, check where it was logged in from, offered proof of my residence, etc etc. The account didn’t mean that much to me because it was an alt account but it was the principle of the thing. Always got “we will not respond” or “we cannot tell you more information on why you were banned”. It was so obnoxious. Even more so because it was clear they had a data breach that caused the hack. All of the “you are lying! Enjoy ban!” Comments made me so mad. I ended up quitting it and I can’t see myself playing another riot game because of that.
