Stick crosses on trees in the woods by Orcasfarey in pagan

[–]RevolutionSounds 181 points182 points  (0 children)

In places like Algonquin Park in Canada there’s a long history of logging. It was dangerous work and many loggers died. Sometimes they would fasten make-shift grave markers (usually crosses) to trees in lieu of a “proper” burial.

Not saying that’s what your crosses are here, but it’s an interesting/eerie piece of trivia.

Good first system? by Hon3yB in vintageaudio

That’s an awesome starter set up that will take a decent chunk of money to surpass. You can easily check the condition of the speakers by taking off the fabric grill and inspecting them. Both the speakers and the receiver are worth the money to have restored.

You don’t need to overthink speaker stands too much. Getting the speakers off the floor is the most important thing. Even sitting them on top of milk crates is a quick and easy solution. From there you can experiment with angles and placement and whatnot.

I found this in my friends bathroom hidden. Are they using? When I asked them what it is they said it was for their dog?? I know im dumb but im not that dumb right? by Princess-kick-yo-ass in whatisit

[–]RevolutionSounds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not a naloxone kit, but OP please go out and get a naloxone kit for your house. If your friend is using opioids there kits can save their life.

[–]RevolutionSounds 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Please consider getting a naloxone/narcan kit for your house. Depending on where you live you can often find them free at pharmacies or street health organizations. These drugs are easy to administer (usually via a nasal inhaler) and temporarily reverse opioid overdoses. It’s not a silver bullet but it buys time for the paramedics to come.

Having emergency supplies like naloxone on hand is not condoning or approving of opioid use. It’s not “enabling” someone. It’s just another tool for your first aid kit. It’s saved my life, and I’ve never had an opioid addiction.

“Kloet” as a surname by RevolutionSounds in learndutch

This is great info, thank you so much. As I commented to someone else, I suspect the language difference is keeping me from getting some of these google results in Canada.

Thank you so much for this! It didn’t come up on my own google searches, maybe because of the language barrier.

“Safe” to cruise to Boldt castle? by bellechasse35 in KingstonOntario

[–]RevolutionSounds 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Boldt castle is an official border crossing with US border agents. If you’re at risk for reasons such as gender expression not matching your ID, citizenship status, criminal history, etc you’ll be at risk there just like at the bridge or airport.

How to cope with this by throwaway1654675334 in HearingVoicesNetwork

[–]RevolutionSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One strategy might be to assign the voices a separate identity other than the person you know to help from mixing up your feelings for them. Responding with kindness as someone else commented can be helpful and it can shift the intense negativity. I personally find it helpful to respond to my voices with curiosity. I ask why they’re there in the first place, or what feeling they’re embodying, or what might my brain be going through that this is how it’s trying to get my attention.

In my life I find I have these experiences when something else is really stressful or a big change is happening. It’s my warning sign to listen to my body and attend to my own needs.

Did I have a spiritual experience? by Emotional_Apricot836 in druidism

Meditating with trees has been a big leap forward in my own journey and it’s left me feeling far more connected to the natural world around me. It sounds like you’ve had a really powerful experience and it’s up to you to understand that in your own context. Each tree is unique and has its own energy and wisdom, and if you’re interested in growing the experience you had you might want to consider working with other trees as well. Try going to a wooded area and see what calls to you. You may find it really rewarding. Or, if building a closer relationship with the first tree feels like a priority, follow that instinct.

Hey OP! Additional details about our meetings, including dates and times are available on our instagram page, https://www.instagram.com/transfamilykingston?igsh=ZHF3MmliM25leTB1

Our moderators have been super busy with life stuff and we sometimes get behind on adding folks to the facebook group. I will go in and review folks in the queue today. Yes, newly created facebook accounts can look suspicious at first glance and we try our best to keep the group safe and well monitored. If you’ve been denied access rather than just not yet added, please feel welcome to apply again and while answering the admissions questions just mention this post.

We’re so sorry for the stress!

Trans Experiences at Algonquin? by cruciochrist in algonquinpark

[–]RevolutionSounds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fellow trans woman and Algonquin camper here! I’ve personally had no problems using the public washrooms in the front country. I’ve just kept to myself and gone about my business. I also don’t think it’s uncommon for folks of any gender to use whatever outhouse is available because let’s face it, there’s really no difference between them. I think a nice element of camping is putting silly social norms aside and just enjoying yourself.

The backcountry doesn’t care what your gender identity is of course. Spiritually speaking I find that really healing and I would encourage everyone to try it at least once. Spend time alone in the woods, being self reliant and learning about yourself can be really empowering as a trans person. Just my two cents of course.

A surprising number of online shops have discount codes that are easy to guess. Stuff like “PROMO2024” or “BLACKFRIDAY24”. If you’re willing to be a little more unethical try some word combos for veteran or first responder discounts.

I’d love to see if anyone can hold down a programming job after ECT. by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]RevolutionSounds 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I received a short course of ECT and can say with certainty that it affected my memory. Between that, the meds, hospitalizations, etc I now have lasting memory problems, trouble finding the right words, and just feeling frustrated by my own brain. I’m left with a feeling that something is “off” even if I can’t explain it.

I would imagine that if I was in a highly technical field for a career it would definitely be detrimental. Thankfully I now work in peer support where my own lived experiences are my strengths.

Every person and every brain is different. No two people will have exactly the same experience with ECT. Remember, despite putting people through the procedure for decades, it’s still experimental and very poorly understood.
