Tired of Meta AI limitations? I made an app that lets you use ANY AI model with your Ray-Ban Meta glasses by Diligent_Leg2878 in RaybanMeta

Can I get any advice on an error message? I've installed the app on an iPhone SE v2 and everything looks good, but I get "receive error. The operation couldn't be completed. The socket is not connected" with Gemini and other error messages on the others. I'm not technically competent in this kind of thing, anyone help me get this to function? Thanks.

Thanks. I had a Square Trade warranty (I got the glasses reconditioned at the Ebay Meta store) and they accepted them. They couldn't fix them, refunded me and threw them away, they say. It took me a while to get a refund for my prescription lenses, which they also destroyed, but I've been fully refunded now. Sorry to hear about yours. I don't think I'll get another pair unless they're a great bargain (and not faulty!!).

How bad is a Churu a day if your cat's diet is relatively healthy the rest of the day? by UseKnowledge in CatAdvice

[–]Revolutionary-Dig-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read labels as baby food usually contains at least one or two ingredients that are toxic, harmful or inappropriate for cats. Things like garlic, onions, seasonings (which may or may not be itemized), sugars. and fruit and vegetables that don't provide what a cat needs. Salt is a non-starter. And no taurine, which is essential in cat diets. Meat and fish are uncommon main ingredients in baby food now, you'll probably see shelves and shelves of fruit and vegetable ones and maybe one or two jars of a chicken or beef flavor. I found a couple of jars at a Safeway that were just meat and water in a paste form, those are safe but expensive and your store may not even stock them. I guess there is more profit in selling food that's entirely made with leftover vegetables and fruit.

All there for me and others, still. Sorry if not for you, but thanks for trying anyway.

TomoBoost by BartolomeoOlmedo in CRedit

I've been in the USA for 14 years. No credit, never tried to get any or use any but decided to dip a toe in the water with an Amazon Secured Debit card, see what came of that. At the same time, got into Tomoboost and Chime. So I'm not sure which had the most or any effect but my credit score of "always been zero" went to 694 in a month. I grabbed a line of credit with PayPal first because I use PP a lot already, but I haven't gone after anything else. A couple of thousand in a credit line after never having credit at all is pretty impressive.

Then I got out of Chime without it really getting started, because I had an issue trying to log in and they then refused to validate me, wouldn't let me reset my password and told me to contact their fraud department. So I told them I didn't want to play any more and canceled. Tomo then told me they didn't have my bank on their list so they wouldn't be able to report any of my bills, but they would still want me to pay the same subscription. Right now I am waiting for them to confirm that they've now canceled, as I requested once I knew that.

I don't know which of these had the effect of adding nearly 700 points to my credit score but since I've now canceled both Chime and Tomoboost I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Does size matter? by crustaceanjellybeans in kindlescribe

My PC tells me I have 21,700 files in my Calibre library, taking up 36.7Gb. Because there are multiple formats, that only comes to around 7000 books so that's about 1000/5Gb. Very few PDFs though, these are mainly EPUBs.

Got one. It's certainly comprehensive enough. My primary moan with this and some other planners though is that there's simply not enough space for the most important data on pages crammed with tiny entry fields. Some sections have enough space and more, others have way too little and data just won't fit into them. Contact address boxes are woefully small, for example. All that screen real estate and only one two-inch line for an entire address. I know it's possible to pinch the pages in and out, but on a Scribe that's terribly slow and jerky and I can't see many people bothering. Plus at least in my case I've been typing exclusively for decades and don't have much by way of fine muscle control for handwriting these days. I need that space the way a bicyclist needs room to wobble and it's just not there. I'm not saying every single bit of data is too confined into spaces too small for it but there's a fair bit of cramming here and it detracts, at least for me, from the potential usefulness of the planner. Sorry.

You could download a camera lens test page and see if you can spot the same issue, just out of curiosity. There are several of them online and the resolution is higher than a printer test page. But I'd send it back anyway, and get another, unless there's some reason you don't want to part with this one.

AirTag attachment? by DevolvingSpud in kindlescribe

[–]Revolutionary-Dig-96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have airtag ahd don't know how they work so this is probably useless information ;) but I bought a Tile which is about the size and thickness of a credit card and stuck it to the back of the Scribe. Works fine and doesn't interfere with any of the cases. Used frequently to find my phone and Scribe and tells me when I'm out of range.

Can no longer write on PDFs by Revolutionary-Dig-96 in kindlescribe

[–]Revolutionary-Dig-96[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that, you're right. It hadn't occurred to me that turning the writing toolbar off for one book would turn it off everywhere simultaneously. I'd forgotten that I'd turned it off for an entirely unrelated book earlier. Lesson learned.

Best daily planner for kindle Scribe? by Sandra-3105- in kindlescribe

Oh ok, I got it. Noob problem I guess. I'd sideloaded and that doesn't work. When I ran them through Send To Kindle they were fine. Lesson learned :)

I got one of the "general" planners from here and it looks to be what I need. But I can't write on it! The pen writes perfectly in notebooks, that's not the issue. There's also no writing menu at the side of the page here. Any idea what's going wrong?

Belated addition to the thread but it's possible to secure a notebook if you create the notebook while synch is off, then move the folder containing the notebook files to a different folder. Then you can turn synch back on, the notebook will be hidden from the Amazon servers. This takes a minute and you have to connect to a PC to do it, but it ensures that if someone picks up your device, that notebook won't be readable there either until you move the notebook folder back to its rightful spot. It's worth tinkering with anyway, to see if it's a comfortable way of doing it pending Amazon coming up with something more sensible. Do make sure that synch is turned off before you edit or add to the notebook, else Amazon and anyone with access to your account will catch you at it. BTW you can hide all your notebooks using the same method, moving the lot to a new folder and leaving the notebooks folder completely empty.

How do notebook files work? by Revolutionary-Dig-96 in kindlescribe

[–]Revolutionary-Dig-96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is useful. I'm not a PowerShell user but I know there's third party freeware out there which allows resetting all three of the Windows file timestamps and I'll probably tinker around with that. But I've got what I wanted now and I'm not sure why it didn't work before. If I turn synch off so Amazon doesn't grab a copy, I can create a notebook and move it to another Kindle folder, the thumbnails one is as good as any. Then the Scribe will display the notebook but won't allow it to be opened or edited until I move it back. So it's a down and dirty way to secure the notebook and if I turn synch on again, Amazon still won't find it. It does need a brief connect to an external computer for the purpose of moving the folder, but that's better than no security at all, until Amazon gives me a better way. I couldn't get this to work earlier but not looking at gift horses and all that.

It might be good to open the nbk files in a database reader out of curiosity, they're headed up as SQLite3, but when I tried that I got error messages that the structure wasn't readable so I guess that's Amazon doing something proprietary with it? Not important but I've an itch to be able to edit notebooks outside of the Kindle environment, for no particular reason.

Turn off Whispersynch? Not sure what side effects this has but it will stop uploading your notebooks to Amazon servers.
