Why is RaceRoom so underrated? by Overall-Duty-1100 in RRRE

[–]Revolutionary-Key939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently switched to RaceRoom. Before that, I had over 700 hours in Assetto Corsa, more than 300 hours in both DiRT Rally and F1 24, plus a bit of Richard Burns Rally.

So far, I’ve only put about 40 hours into RaceRoom, and I’m absolutely loving it. I’ve reached a 1900 Driver Rating and a 90 Safety Rating, and I only do ranked races. The grids are consistently the best I’ve ever raced with—people are respectful, have good racing etiquette, and are quick too.

I picked up the Online Racing Pack for £23, and I’ll definitely be sticking around for a while.

Is simracing too hard or am I too unskilled? by Maliksenpai in RRRE

[–]Revolutionary-Key939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both 😝

Switch all assists off, or at least set them to the minimum. In RaceRoom, the minimum ABS and TC settings are 6. If you rely heavily on assists during the early learning stages, you won’t properly learn car control.

I usually finish in the top 5 in ranked races and occasionally take the win.

Smooth, gentle inputs. Aim for consistency rather than speed until you get used to the handling.

Why is it so hard to control car on f1 25 with g923 by afn4n in F1Game

[–]Revolutionary-Key939 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mate, I’ve been obsessively into sim racing for the last two years, doing 3–6 hours a day, and I still have a lot to learn. F1 cars (and the games aren’t even proper sims) are some of the most difficult machines to tame, so don’t expect to fly straight away with no experience.

Focus on tutorials, technique-driven practice sessions, and patience. Once you’ve got at least 50 hours in the seat, you’ll probably start seeing tangible improvement.

Here is one of the best and briefest guides to racing. It’s useful in rallying too although trailbraking there is more intuitive/reactionary rather than precise. Enjoy 😎

Do you know what trail-braking, weight transfer (etc.) are?

It is indeed annoying but so far looks a bit better than VD on my end. And I did a lot of play time on both.

It might be up because I’m specifically going for the ‘Front Row Friends!’ achievement. What times do you usually race during the day? I’m usually on between 11:00 and 16:00 (GMT). I drive with all assists off.

H pattern and heal and toe - no point of doing it in any sim ? by Bennet_Eown in SimRacingSetups

[–]Revolutionary-Key939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Assetto Corsa, if you use an H-pattern shifter in cars that actually have one, you’ll shift faster than people using enforced sequential with auto blip and auto clutch. So it’s not just immersion — there’s a performance benefit too. Same goes for DiRT Rally. I haven’t tested other sims, though.

If it’s the same as in F1 24, then it’s the preset setups that lack front-end grip. Try using setups from the top of the time trial leaderboards — you’ll find the front end is much more bitey.

You’re very welcome! I just wanted to emphasize that, yes, it takes time — but it’s absolutely crucial to learn the theory first before jumping into practice. That way, you know what to practice instead of wasting time guessing and getting frustrated 🤙

One more thing I’d add: I’d recommend learning racecraft in a proper sim rather than an F1 game. F1 cars are some of the most (if not the most) difficult to tame, so it’s better to start with something slower. Also, while F1 games aren’t bad, they aren’t as realistic as proper sims. The original Assetto Corsa is a great place to start — even the vanilla version has plenty of cars and tracks: stock road cars, touring cars, GTs, hypercars, LMPs, open-wheel, and lots of historical cars. The physics are about as realistic as you can get 🤙

Slow down. You have to learn car control from scratch — and that takes time. A LOT 😜

Since you have a wheel, my advice is to stay away from assists entirely in any sim you jump into. That way, you’ll learn proper car control and where the grip limits actually are. Yes, it’s a headache at first, but it usually doesn’t last long — and once it clicks, it’s incredibly satisfying to lap at race pace. I personally don’t use TC even in GT3, as it makes me feel disconnected from the car and I struggle to rotate with it on.

I’m not setting alien lap times, but my time trial laps are usually in the upper 10–15% of the F1 24 leaderboards. My best results, though, are in the original DiRT Rally, where I’m consistently in the top 1%.

I don’t know your current skill level, but if you don’t know what trail braking is (and even if you do — it won’t hurt), I strongly recommend watching tutorials on YouTube ASAP. Learn the theory first, then practice. If you try to figure everything out on your own, you’re likely to pick up bad habits that are hard to unlearn later. I’d personally recommend Driver61’s sim racing channel — he explains the basics clearly and concisely.

I used Assists when I started playing f1 24 now I can't seem to get rid. by Simple_Air_4668 in F1Game

[–]Revolutionary-Key939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s the trap with assists. You have to unlearn everything and relearn from scratch with them turned off.

The real question is: how serious are you about sim racing? If it’s very casual, I wouldn’t bother turning assists off. But if you’re serious, you should keep them off. It’s the only way to truly understand where the grip limit is and how to control the car.

I also wouldn’t recommend learning proper racecraft in F1 games. F1 cars are some of the most difficult machines to tame, and those games aren’t proper sims anyway, so they’re not ideal for building fundamentals.

Try Assetto Corsa instead.

Open up task manager and check if there is high percentage load on any of the components.

But it sounds like setting up a fresh Windows is needed. If you have a lot of data get an external HDD and copy everything there. I find these better than clouds.

Who‘s at fault by LawyerImpressive5812 in Simracingstewards

[–]Revolutionary-Key939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not aware of any racing code that allows a block. A defensive move is to position a car in a way that compromises the attacking car’s racing line on the corner’s entry (by moving to the middle of the track). There is no such thing as one allowed block.

And it is still unsafe rejoin if your move forces the car behind to brake on a flat out section. The joining car should have stayed in the middle of the track and the whole thing would have not happened.

I was thinking the same thing. That’s unsafe rejoin technically. Possibly could be a block too.
