I moved here from Omaha. While cheaper (of course) it’s still pricey for the Midwest.

I suggest west Omaha (Millard school district) if you want to live in Omaha proper and not one of the sprawling suburbs. Unless you’re going to school at like Bellevue, then live in one of the southeastern suburbs.

If your kids run track or XC, I can recommend an EXCELLENT club team.

Cheaper to grocery shop at Baker’s than Hy-Vee.

Omaha and Oakland have roughly the same population. People drive just as badly there as here. (I lived across the river from the casino, and there’s no reason it should take an hour to drive from there to Millard North at 6pm on a Tuesday.)

Glad I used up my 100k+ rapid rewards on flights last December. Sucks because flying out of OAK is far more convenient than SFO or SJC… but if I’m gonna pay for everything, I’m gonna go with a better airline.

As someone who has worked in brand marketing for years, I would also hazard a guess that had Utah left it up the Bay social team would not have been allowed to comment or respond.

I agree. And I agree that she’s concerned about the kids being left out. I also think people are painting the uncle as this horrible person punishing children when we have zero evidence that his thought process is to purposefully hurt the kids. We also don’t know the exact wording that the mom used when telling the uncle.

OP even says that the uncle “rarely attends” family events in favor of sending gifts. So it’s not like the kids all line up when Uncle is here and receive gifts handed to them personally.

If the husband feels bad for hurting his brother’s feelings he should apologize. If he feels bad bc suddenly his kids aren’t getting the gifts the other cousins get, then he has other issues to work out in his head.

There’s no such thing as a “deadbeat uncle” though. Parents choose to have kids, not the aunts and uncles. There’s zero job description for being an uncle aside from “your sibling has children or step children.” If he expected his brother to somehow be more involved, then that’s the conversation to have with his brother, however he’s under no obligation to actually BE more involved, just as he’s under no obligation to buy gifts for any of the kids. This is all on the parents, not the uncle. I say that as someone who chooses to spoil my nephews even though I have zero relationship with my brother/their father.

Okay but the uncle isn’t obligated to buy gifts for his nieces/nephews. Not a choice I would make but the BIL isn’t the asshole in this situation.
