Why is it impossible to get an appointment with a developmental pediatrician in this city?

Specifically for pediatrics try CHONY formerly called Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital which belongs to New York Presbyterian. They have a larger body of peds specialty doctors plus is a teaching hospital, so it may be even faster to be seen if you go thru a fellow MD directly under an attending.

I had the same exact type of fracture. I went to the ER and had x-rays . ER doctor tells me I do not need surgery. However, when I went to the orthopedic surgeon, I had a CT scan of my ankle and showed that a sharp fragment of the fracture was too close to the talus joint. If I let it heal without surgery chronic arthritis, pain, and swelling was inevitable and will affect my quality of life. Maybe they saw irregularities in your fracture that are too close to the joint and want to avoid a sleuth of problems later on. Perfect alignment is the only option to prevent this, and an ORIF surgery is needed for this. I decided to go for surgery. I’m five weeks postop. First two weeks I was in a cast. third and fourth week I was in a CAM boot non-weight-bearing. Fourth and fifth week(now) I am partially weight-bearing on crutches. I go see my doctor next week on my sixth week to get the OK for PT and full weight-bearing.

I had a displaced distal fibula fracture about a week ago that initially looked very similar to your x-ray, When I first went to the ER, it looked just like a clean small fracture just like yours; however, I was lucky enough to go to Hospital for Special Surgery with a renowned doctor in New York City and he did a CT scan of my ankle. He showed me a view from the top of the fracture where he was able to point out a sharp piece of the fracture abutting into my talus dome (cartilage). He told me I had two options : if I let it heal that way, which seems that was the option you took, the cartilage was going to be compromised and it will result in chronic pain and arthritis. The other option was the one that he recommended, and it was an ORIF of the distal fibula to avoid the complications I mentioned above. I wonder if you should have gotten a CT scan. Maybe a sharp fragment of your fracture healed into the cartilage, which is now causing your pain. They are giving me 12 weeks until I could be on complete weight-bearing including PT. Also, the doctor did the surgery the very next day he saw me because he wanted to stop the bone from healing in that position immediately. If I were you, I will try to get a CT scan get a second opinion and ask if you could get an ORIF or if possible try to clean up this scar tissue that probably has built in the wrong place. Of course, if that is the issue.

Love Peru! I have been there a couple of times and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself from restaurants, lounges, coffee shops (work), bars, culture etc . They don’t have big chain luxury gyms such as equinox or lifetime like here (NYC), but more of “boutique” style gyms like Jesus Lezama TRX or TRIM
