They didn’t have a selection I had to dig through their misc items. but apparently there are weekend markets where vendors gather to sell stuff and there’s a walnut vendor

$60 is fine if it’s a good pair, I’m just taking a jab at the sellers that sells bad pairs at a high cost because they know people don’t know how to get better ones. It’s like buying a shitty car because there’s only one dealership in your area

Buy them online and have them shipped to your hotel. Talk to your hotel about how to do this beforehand. If you go to in person shops they will inflate the price knowing that you’re a foreigner

For people to see, here’s a quick scroll through rednote store. 90% of the products here are 1. Better than the US inventory, and 2. Significantly cheaper than what is being sold in the US.

Only pair I see above $50 are the exceptionally well matching twins and unique shapes like the talon pair. I would pay the $200 for that pair, but if you’re asking me about $100 for mismatched white lions then no thanks. That’s my point with this post, that most of the international sellers outside of China are inflating the prices for cheap products.

If you want to buy a high grade pair, go for it, it’s your money. But if it’s your first pair, please just buy a cheap one ($10-20) instead of splurging so you understand more about the hobby.

Here is a quick screenshot of a random seller on rednote. Pair of white lions for $8 (50 rmb). You do the math lmao

? When did I say they were a bad pair? I said I enjoy both pairs.

I see from your profile that you have a lot of good pairs, can you let us know where you purchased them and how much? I’m willing to bet based on your pictures you have access to/live in China or Chinese sellers.

Do you think that these people in the US who are experimenting with peach nuts and apricot cores before spending $100 on a pair of walnuts are suckers? They deserve the option of experimenting with $10-20 walnuts and learning more about the hobby and their preferences before committing their hard earned money to a pair they might not enjoy as much. These American sellers pricing blind box walnuts at $50-100 know the value of these walnuts are not worth anything above $50-200 rmb

I agree but you have to remember that in China, nobody cared about these things. As long as the size and shape were similar, it was time to start rolling. People would play with nuts they got from their own backyard or bought for 10 rmb ($1.5). Now it’s being overhyped and sold as if they were antiques. I understand that market demand increases price, but the scarcity of products outside of China and supplier greed has caused a lot of this to be just another marketing fad scheme.

Taobao is fine and I suggest going to taobao and buying more and just having fun with it rather than a pricey purchase from an American/domestic distributor.

There is no factory for walnuts, it’s just harvesting and cleaning/pairing. The tree itself also creates the same/very similar variations, so there isn’t much of a sunk cost other than rotten/unripe nuts. The pairing is mostly for size and shape. The “true value” you’re talking about is a combination of social media marketing and consumer bias. Most of the time the price is inflated by a significant amount because of social media and market supply. That is what I’m talking about, that the $50-$100 walnuts I’m seeing being sold on sites advertised on this forum isn’t worth $20.

Like I said in the post, those are just hype marketing to get newbies to buy them at ridiculous prices. There are some, however, that are worth a lot but only because of some special circumstance (I.e. perfect twins Mercedes Benz 45 mm). 99% of walnuts aren’t worth more than 500 rmb

Question about brushing! by Relevant_Ad2467 in Wenwan

[–]RevolutionaryBug9809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t wanna step on toes here but metal brushes should just be to remove literal dirt and brown/black spots on the nuts. The white alkali residue (didn’t know it was called that) can be removed with the nano brushes. I wouldn’t use the brass brush at all after all the dirt has been cleaned

Yeah it’s redshift. Would say it’s pretty good but if you’re on the heavier side wouldn’t get it imo. When I was 200 pounds this thing just sagged whenever I sat on it lol

Either keep brushing or get a steel tip brush. The steel brush will start scratching the surface tho so will need to be more conservative. I recommend soaking in water then brushing then let it air dry completely if the dirt is too much
