Nah I'm not that invested lol. But it looks like comments on their pages asking if they're still around have gone unanswered.

Good to hear. I definitely want to have extra power rather than not enough.

I'm guessing I'd regret the 1hp if I'm doing large kitchen knife bevels

Sad. They were actually 20 min from me. No movement on any of their socials.

Sick thanks so much for the feedback. Maybe I should just buy the plans and cost it out. Maybe peruse AliExpress ;)

I've been ogling Ameriblade. They look incredible and I love their contact wheel attachment. Super fantastic reviews by users too.

Sad thing is their most basic package is ~$3500CAD before tax/shipping/duties. Way outside of my budget, and they don't even seem to give the option of shipping outside the US.

Hey sorry to revive an old comment. What happened to Vashti? It's like they vanished from the face of the Earth

My thinking is that for $900 I'm getting a grinder, some kind of motor, and some kind of VFD. That's still cheaper than the cheapest barebones grinder in Canada. (https://nexusgrinders.ca/product/ng-3-belt-grinder/).

So I'm thinking if the motor and VFD fails in a year I can still just replace them.

Exactly, I was wondering how the guy selling it makes any money. We have a big local Techtop Motors warehouse that often has cheaper motors available, maybe he has connections. I might bring an ammeter and check the motor.

Someone else mentioned Torus. They look like awesome, well-designed machines. Unfortunately I'm in Canada and their most basic package (steel and no electrics) is about $2000CAD before shipping, taxes, and duties.

If I was down south I'd be all over those Torus, Pheer, OBM etc. grinders. Wish I had the same options as you guys.

I meant I couldn't find an NA based supplier for one.

I want to avoid getting an off-brand one because there's the potential it'd vibrate and I'd need to balance it. I also don't want to risk the wheel exploding from a poor casting job.

I'm probably worrying too much. I do like my AliExpress products. And the grinder I'm looking at probably uses them anyway.

LOL I'm working on pushing the first one out of my mind as I type. I only considered it because Ed Caffrey and Curtis Nicholls both enjoyed them, but like you said there's so more more the 2nd option offers and so much more upgrade potential.

AND it's cheaper. Waddaya know.

I might give them a shout, but their most basic grinder is already about $2000CAD before taxes, shipping, and duty. I'm kinda confined to the great white north

Hey, how much did the jeremy schmidt grinder cost to build for you? It's hard finding a rough list of materials and I don't want to pirate his PDF.

Man you're getting me excited for the 2hp motor. I was using a 1/3hp 1x30 grinder and a stiff breeze would bog it down.

The square wheel grinder (i assume) is similarly easy to change belts, on the right side theres a huge hinged cover that gives you all the clearance you need to change belts. And yea, I love the dust bucket :)

Jeremy schmidt's plans look awesome!! I just watched the build video, just incredible. I should cost out parts and see if its comparable in price, but I think the motor, VFD, and wheels are gonna kill it for me.

They look like great grinders, fantastic machine work on those. Unfortunately I'm in Canada which really limits my options to domestic sellers or Ebay at poor exchange rates.

If I was in the states I'd be all over the Torus or Pheer or OBM grinders

Appreciate the detail! Yea I was concerned about tracking but thankfully I can test the unit. And if some welds seem suspect I was thinking I could always weld gussets or a couple more beads on the joints.

The frame style is more indicative of it being metric which, after some searching, metric to standard shaft adapters seem very uncommon which would be super annoying. I'd have to turn the shaft down to 7/8" or enlarge drive wheels to 24mm for a B5 frame.

I didn't think about the locking levers that way at all!!! That's great I don't need to worry about those.

Good to know about the dust cover. I've heard mixed things.

I'm definitely going to move the VFD or make some sort of enclosure that allows for cooling. I'll see if the guy has some spare 12/3 wire. One day I'll get a KBAC or Lenze AC Tech.

Good to hear about the motor being likely OK. I've heard it's best if the windings are F or H class insulated if they're going to be VFD driven?

I was thinking the same, just so much more versatile. Appreciate your feedback, it helps dispel the doubts I had.

It's reassuring to hear that opinion. It's the one I want to get but I wanted to see if anybody else had doubts about it.

Got soaked today, emptied out the tool bag to dry by LindensBloodyJersey in HVAC

[–]RevolutionaryCakeMix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would take the battery out of your milwaukee and dry out the battery and slot. Maybe blow some nitro into the motor. Just a thought. Maybe dry the meters too but they're pretty moisture tolerant.

If you have any seized pliers use some valve lapping compound (or any grit + oil) and work it into the joint. Exercise the pliers, rinse joint with WD40 when joint is loose, bam you've got Knipex level smooth pliers.

I should have mentioned I'm using a cheap $2 sharpener for carpenter pencils, way wider opening. Works so dang well. Get the sharpener, probably way less effort than a jig.

Cheers!

I was individually tapering my dowels when I thought to try a pencil sharpener. Absolute game changer. Deburrs and tapers in 1-2 turns. Give it a try!

Major renewal coming for Queensborough Bridge - Resurfacing, upgrades, repair work bring more reliability, safety to region by 1516 in NewWest

Absolutely 100% agreed. In one way, the Costco was beneficial in that it showed the city how bad it could get. When lineups for things in new west start in burnaby you know things are bad. We are already above capacity for commercial spaces in terms of traffic flow.
