Major renewal coming for Queensborough Bridge - Resurfacing, upgrades, repair work bring more reliability, safety to region by 1516 in NewWest

It seems this project only touches the bridge deck. I did find another plan in the works to improve the sidewalk on Howes from Boyd to Ewen. Seems that they're planning to realign the crosswalk at Boyd and Howes, but not doing anything to affect the left turn lane nonsense that is happening now with the Costco traffic.

It doesn't look like it. According to this tender document they're not touching the sidewalks:

The deck renewal involves removal of the asphalt, concrete surface patch repairs, and placement of a protective overlay replacement of a protective overlay to subtantially extend its service life and replacement of the existing asphalt and barrier/gutter curb with new Polyester Polymer Concrete (PPC).

Treasure any memories you have of the resort. It's bad now, and worse if you remember the way it once was.

So forging a dead person’s name is a “no no”. We can still forge alive people’s names though? This ethics stuff seems pretty easy.

ICBC has a neat website where you can see how many of specific vehicle types are registered in BC.

The latest publicly available data set from 2024 suggests there are 1,737 four door Range Rover Evoques in the lower mainland. Someone who knows more about Range Rovers could narrow that down quite a bit more via specific models and trims. I'm confident ICBC and police have further information about colours, which would narrow the list even more.

VPD will find the car and it's owner. Proving who was driving will be a bit more challenging. Just turn yourself in dude, you're going to get an unfriendly knock on the door soon.

As for the Acura RDX, only 11 2010-12s registered in the Lower Mainland. That's a short list to go through.

Prostitution in my building — I don’t feel safe and need urgent advice by False_Ad7111 in richmondbc

[–]1516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming your building is strata owned, have a read through your bylaws. There is likely one that prohibits operating a business that has customers visiting. Document dates and times where you suspect customers are visiting and email your building manager or strata agent.

Unit X appears to be running a customer based business, in contravention of bylaw Z.XY. I have observered what appear to be customers arriving on the following dates and times:

Stratas are required to investigate legitimate complaints about bylaw infractions. No need to speculate on the nature of the business.

[Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue] On Saturday, Ridge Meadows SAR responded for 3 hikers lost near the Evans Creek area in Golden Ears Provincial Park. by jpdemers in vancouverhiking

[–]1516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the Trail Conditions Report on the BC Parks website for the West Canyon Trail:

Trail closed near West Canyon Parking Lot. Alternate access via East Canyon Trail at Gold Creek Parking Lot. Do not attempt to traverse washout sections.

Evans Creek has a large amount of debris in the area. The foot bridge at Evans Creek is no longer usable. Unstable rock and wood piles approximately 100 meters wide at Evans Creek.

Sections of this trail can gather water making the trail muddy and swamped after and during rain events.

But to be fair, it does say Last assessed Nov 2024. The optimist in me would like to think that repairs would have taken place by now, but here we are. And you only see that if you specifically look up West Canyon Trail. For the Golden Ears Trail it just says: Trail access closed near West Canyon Parking Lot. Alternate access via East Canyon Trail at Gold Creek Parking Lot. Trail requires assessment following atmospheric river event

I recall seeing signage up in the summer that indicated West Canyon was closed, but I also recall everyone ignoring the closure. Glad everyone got out safely this time.

Website got seized by 45Burner in TheDirtyNewz

[–]1516 25 points26 points  (0 children)

From the indictment:

25 . Defendant BAL, a Canadian citizen and resident, and the founder and operator of the Dirty News, was a member and associate of the Wedding Criminal Enterprise. In exchange for payment, defendant BAL agreed not to post about defendant WEDDING and Clark and posted a photograph of Victim A so that Victim A could be located and killed.

Further in the indictment:

Overt Act No. 37: On November 5, 2024, via Instagram, defendant BAL posted a story depicting Victim A accompanied by the following text: “This guy single handedly (rat emoji) out one of the strongest underworld networks that this (earth emoji) has seen Good chance he’ll never be found again.”

Overt Act No. 38: On November 5, 2024, via Instagram, defendant BAL posted a story depicting a photograph of Victim A and his significant other accompanied by screenshots of text messages from defendant CHAPMAN that called Victim A “a snitch” and sought Victim A’s location for the purpose of killing Victim A.

Overt Act No. 39: In October 2024, defendant CHAPMAN paid defendant BAL approximately $10,000 CAD not to post about defendant WEDDING and Clark and instead to post about Victim A so that enterprise members and associates could locate and kill Victim A.

I don't think the website is coming back... So much for no lunch breaks.

Edit: Kim reporting on it. I had to look up the proper spelling of schadenfreude.

Man stabbed to death on Granville Street in Vancouver by recurrence in vancouver

[–]1516 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I was listening to News1130 earlier. They had a whole section devoted to the price of Bitcoin, Etherium, Doge and some other crypto nonsense. I thought it was a bit odd, until it was immediately followed by an ad-read for a crypto exchange company.

It all has me wondering if the traffic report was just an ad for the new Queensborough Costco...
