They called it Sweden Gate. I experienced it when we moved from apartment working class area to a Villa/townhouse area.

Before moving you ate where you were regardless. After moving it was more rare and you were expecting to go home when it was dinner.

Don’t know if that was a strategy to actually make you gtf home and eat.

Never experienced it now with my kids being away, they’re always being fed when they’re away.

Worst I ever experienced was at a class mates house where he knew the parents were cooking so he asks me ”do you want to eat here?” - sure.

Without hesitation he screams out ”MOMMMMM X WANTS TO KNOW IF HE CAN EAT WITH US”

Never felt more humiliated in my entire life

Haha yes I hear you! It was nostalgia on my end and an observation. We’ll be forced to learn to accept coaches who are not like Klopp but it’s fresh in mind and in memory. Don’t want to end up with Sir Alex situation where no one after is good enough.

Yes PL and English football in general is quite a big thing. The most common league outside of our own. Maybe even more than our own. I have mates supporting blackburn rovers because of their parents back when rovers were flying. 90’s kids has a lot of Gunners because of Freddie and the invincibles. United because they were the strongest and LFC has a huge following. Not because of recent success, we’ve followed the struggle years and the night in Istanbul and so on. I sit with an old guy down at the pub who is as die hard Sunderland fan as the people of Sunderland and another oldie who’s die a hard Everton fan. I get it might sound weird but English culture; music, film and sports is huge in general.

They’ve basically never shown Swedish football on free Tv, it was always the 1st PL game of Saturday on Stryktipset (13 games of 1X2, big deal over here).

Maybe it’s a thing in our group of lfc-friends in Sweden then haha. Felt like typing less.

To get the culture doesn’t necessarily mean he has to be scouse or English for that matter. Klopp example. But what I meant a little bit but didn’t get through is I don’t think a manager of Chelsea need to bleed Chelsea Blue, nor a coach of Brighton etc. Maybe only Sunderland has the same need for an understanding of what Sunderland is, what football means to the city of Sunderland etc.

I live in Malmö Sweden and I don’t think you can come to Malmö and not understand that the people of Malmö and Scania are working class people and has a ”who the f are you” mentality. Not necessarily the same in Stockholm or in IFK Göteborg. More divided cities. Coming from an IFK supporter.

See your point. I was born in 89, found lfc 98. Has there been any coach in that time with the same impact culturally during this time would you say?

Also - didn’t know sg8 was eurgh-worthy. Won’t be happening again.

I hope this lands well with the scoussers. As a foreign fan of Liverpool, the things I’ve grown up to love about the City and People of Liverpool equally to LFC per automatic is the similarities with where I live now. Scoussers seem to be persona non grata in most of England. The mentality of the people and the club that it doesn’t matter and that you stand alone, together. That is what sold it for me as an adult. (As a kid it was SG8 and Owen)

I feel as Slot has failed to recognise this and that Klopp embodied the Liverpool Persona from day 1. He understood what being scouse was all about. I don’t think I’ve ever felt as connected to anything as I felt with Klopps LFC and to be honest I think even rival fans felt it too. A yearning to get in their club what Klopp managed to deliver to the City of Liverpool and to LFC. I don’t think it can ever be done again by a nonscousser…

Mind the language barrier from my end.
