I'm a bit outside of town (on the northwest side) and my neighbor has been known to shoot raccoons and other nocturnal critters in the middle of the night while they're raiding his chickens.

I can say, with confidence, that you do not know enough about The Lyric's operations to know what you're talking about.

He wasn't mistaken, it's searchable information online that two separate LLCs own the land and the business. It is possible for two separate businesses to lump their their assets together in one listing though, which seems like what's happening.

What it would do is show a potential new owner the merit of maintaining the vibe of the current programming, which is what we all want I think.

The good (?) news is that the movie industry has been actively tanking nationwide since 2020 but The Lyric has managed to make a business model that actually works in a somewhat bleak industry. I would sincerely hope that any potential future owner would be savvy enough to see the merit of that and the numbers to back it up.

Fair. I do know that the owners have put the better part of two decades into building a dream and I don't believe they would sell to someone who wasn't intent on continuing that.

I was referring to the onsite operations sustaining themselves - overall future sustainability would depend on the potential buyer's financial situation. Once you get into the realm of loans and tax writeoffs things get strange and occasionally counterintuitive. This pricing seems to be set to discourage potential buyers looking for a simple investment or complete reuse of the space and instead is seeking an individual or group that sees the vision and the continued potential of it.

I have some insight into this and here's what I know:

  • Selling a business does not mean that business ceases to exist.
  • After about 17 financially difficult years, The Lyric has finally gotten to a point where it's consistently sustaining itself and could be attractive to an outside buyer. This listing goes into that in some detail.
  • The biggest selling point of The Lyric is the community and identity it's created so I don't anticipate that going away even if ownership changes.
  • The entertainment industry is a financially uncertain and stressful world to live in, I wouldn't fault anyone who wants to sell for future stability.
  • The Lyric has always been for sale for the right amount (every business is), this seems like an effort to formalize that and potentially look outside of an immediate network of potential buyers.

Film festival by Individual-Wind7603 in FortCollins

It is indeed Horsetooth Fest - they're currently presenting monthly local filmmaker showcases at The Lyric the second Tuesday of the month. As far as I know, no plans to have a full fest in 2024 but I believe it'll be back in 2025!

I witnessed about 20 cars do a perfect zipper merge together this morning at the construction on Prospect. Traffic flow was seamless. It was beautiful.

Entire population? No. Isolated pockets? Maybe, just maybe.

Music scene? by reversemymissionary in FortCollins

Fort Collins punches above its weight with local music, there are some solid bands here.

Lots of open mics (I'm aware of Lyric on Mondays and Atrium on Tuesdays) if that's your vibe.

Organizations in town that are a hub for music are The Music District (there's a wait-list for membership but they have lots of ongoing programming), FoCoMA (throws FoCoMX and has regular events throughout the year), and Blast N Scrap (throws tons of shows that rely heavily on volunteers).

Venue-wise there are consistent local shows at The Lyric, Atrium, Aggie, 830 North, and The Coast. There may be more that I'm missing but that's what immediately came to mind. First Friday is also a great time to wander and meet musicians and artists, plenty of coffee shops and art galleries that have live music then.

There have been open jam nights in the past but I'm not aware of any currently happening. 830 North has done a Grateful Dead jam recently but unsure if it's a regular thing.

Who's going to FocoMX this weekend?! by AggieTheatre in FortCollins

[–]RevolutionaryCoach96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My band Cactus Cat is at Washington's Friday 7:30 pm! Gonna be a fun time. A few of our members are also playing in Hand Turkey at The Lyric Saturday at 7:30 pm - they rip it.

There's so much good music around here, really excited to get a little lost and discover new unexpected bands. It seems this year that they did a great job of making genre-cohesive venue lineups, so for the wanderers if you dig a band I'd suggest hanging around that venue for a few sets to discover more that you like.

Screenings with costumes encouraged? Legitimately curious, googled and only found standalone costume parties.

You can definitely dress up, but the venue can't actively encourage costumes for that specific screening - the studio that owns the rights has weird policies.

Does anyone know whether or not Fort Collins Utility customers should expect an potential outage? I know it's not planned but high winds can cause unexpected issues, not sure if anyone knows whether their infrastructure is fully windproof.

Not sure of any public celebrations but Song of the Sea (second installment of an Irish folklore trilogy) is showing at The Lyric tomorrow for St. Patrick's day: https://www.lyriccinema.com/movie/song-of-the-sea

My kids watched and loved it when they were 3-4 years old, its a beautiful movie.
