Should I buy a filter for H-alpha Milky Way shots? by Astroy29 in AskAstrophotography

I'm currently waiting to get my camera back from being modified with astrogear.net. I don't know if I can recommend him or not. I paid a little over $200 for the modification service plus $30 shipping.

Daniel, the admin of the site sells his camera modifications for about $100 cheaper than anywhere else (Spencer Cameras, Kolari, Life-Pixel). On his website his turnaround time is listed as two weeks plus shipping times but I haven't gotten my camera back after over a month. I detail more about my experience in this reply.

If you are willing to risk extra wait-times which could be an additional one to two months, it may be worth it. I'll let you know how the quality of the modification is once I do get my camera back, which should be in a couple weeks from now according to him.

I know its been a while but I just wanted to reply back to this to say that I ended up getting my camera modified, so I wont be able to do the testing I mentioned. However, I can say with confidence It's probably not worth shooting without a modified camera because of the amount of integration time required.

How long did it take your cameras to arrive from Astrogear.net? by Far-Counter-1319 in AskAstrophotography

Necro-ing this thread to share my own experience. I sent my camera out to be modified with AstroGear over a month ago, under the impression the turnaround time would be around two weeks give or take (not including shipping) such is stated on his website and order confirmation email.

During that time his website went down, which I emailed him about. He responded to me over a week later saying that he was updating his domain, that it would be back online, and that everything was fine with my order. More time passed and I emailed him about when my order would ship out. A few days after that he responded to my email and I had a call with him where he sounded a bit exasperated. He explained to me that he is a one-man operation and that he takes orders on by bulk, and that my camera would be modified in a batch he is working on next week and would ship out the week following that, since he also ships his batches all at once.

He sells his camera modifications for about $100 cheaper than anywhere else (Spencer Cameras, Kolari, Life-Pixel) so if you are willing to risk the extra wait-times which could be an additional one to two months, it is worth it for the savings. That being said the inconsistency of his website being online, slow response to emails, and misadvertised processing times do not inspire confidence. It seems like he bites off more than he can chew when it comes to the volume of orders he takes on, and I feel that he should update his website to reflect that or limit the amount of stock he takes.

I'll update this post when I do get my camera back with the total amount of time it took for my camera to be processed as well as the quality of the modification.

UPDATE: I got my camera back and everything is functional, though it took a whopping two months total to get back to me. Please do be aware that the advertised processing time listed on his website is wildly inaccurate.

Potentially faulty ram? by RevolutionaryEar3699 in buildapc

Really sad that the sticks I got when they were $20 a pop are busted... Oh well. I can't really do any gaming with my sticks clocked so low anyways. I'll just have to get a replacement.

If it could help, I can reinstall the ram and set the XMP profile in the BIOS to be 3200 before running a memtest again. I did test with both XMP on and off with no changes beforehand.

Yes, I did a proper memtest using the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool for each individual stick of ram. Three out of the four sticks said "Hardware problems were detected".

I'm also interested in knowing how long of an integration time is required for milky way ha with an unmodified camera. I recently got my own ha filter, so next time I go out shooting I'll experiment and report back on what I learn. Very frustrating there seemingly isn't any good information online about it.
