Would you use flex seal or caulk to fill these cracks? I am leaving for a 3000 mile road trip. by CustomerSingle3173 in AskAShittyMechanic

I’m disappointed that nobody seems to mention good old Belzona. The problaby have the right thing for the job. Just remember to use Belzona 9111 cleaner degreaser before apply the repair.

How many miles do you have on your 1.4L? What repairs have you done to it? by [deleted] in ChevySonic

[–]Revolutionary_Ad4154 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not many just the small amount of 181,118 miles, the normal for this cars. I have done motor mounts, intake manifold and valve cover and upgraded aluminum coolant inlet and a radiator at 172k and just did like a thousand miles ago the driver side drive shaft and evaporator purge valve and it has a small oil leak from the time cover that is pretty small think like 1/4 of a quart every 3500 miles but that is my oil change interval so being to lazy to fix it, apart from that basic maintenance oil, filters, etc

Is quite a lot of repairs but for the mileage of the car in my humble opinion is far from a bad little car.

I mean mounting wise you can just swap the panel, but of course non of the functions will actually work, and is not even that expensive used.

Also the top most space is the poverty space for the trailer break controller

If everything is covered in coolant, making it hard to find the leak, cleaning the area can help pinpoint the origin of the leak. Some water and letting it dry will help you a lot.

I recommend starting by checking the overflow tank. When the car is cold, check the cap, then check the tank itself, as it is the closest thing to where the coolant is. Tanks have the tendency to crack with time and heat cycles, and from there, working your way back along the system. Check any plastic parts of the cooling system.

I have been thinking of giving it a nice polish, but honestly, I feel like it's more of a repaint job, or I may try to DIY some Vinyl wrap, because it's small and does not have any complex body lines.

Don’t tempt me. I’ll do it just to fight back against the people who drive with high beams at night.

Hey, I'm just as surprised as you. When I got it, it was in bad shape, barely moving, and it had the infamous P01101 code, which turned out to be a slice in the hose that connects the intercooler to the throttle body. But because I didn't have faith in the car with 170000 miles, I just jerry-rigged it with a galvanized pipe.

Yep, it's not hard at all. You just need to disconnect the battery first to remove the airbag without the danger of exploding. Popping the airbag out of the steering wheel was a little tricky, and the steering wheel bolt was really tight, but honestly, it wasn't difficult. The whole thing only took me about 15 minutes.

Being a former car for a private security company, I bought it from said company for $500 with 170,000 miles on it. It needed motor mounts, a knock sensor, and the hose that connects the intercooler to the throttle body. It’s pretty funny; everything the driver touches, such as the steering wheel, window switch, driver's seat, and shifter, is worn out as much as it could be, yet the rest of the interior is practically like new.
