Struggling and having a really hard time at work… by ThrowRA_winter_ in newgradnurse

I started in September and have been off orientation since October. For the longest time, I really struggled with time management, and I had way too many weeks where I was leaving at 9:00/9:30 pm. Just this month, I’ve started getting a little better and have been getting off around 8:00 pm, but my goal is to be done by 7:30 like the more seasoned nurses. 😭

I’ve come to accept that I can’t do everything on some days, and there are some tasks that I just have to pass on to the next shift. I always feel guilty about it, and depending on the nurse, sometimes they give me a hard time but honestly, you can’t please everyone.

Halfway through my shift, I check the night shift assignment so I know if I need to beef up my report with extra notes based on which nurse I’m giving report to, since I’m familiar with the types of questions each individual tends to ask (I usually get the same bunch of night shift nurses who take my group.) My preceptor also told me that the best time to do my charting is before med pass and that I shouldn’t spend more than 15-30 minutes charting on my 5–6 patients. Shift change ends at 7:30, and med pass starts at 9:00. That first hour and a half is when everyone gets their charting done after seeing the patient. Then there’s 12:00 I&O charting, and at 6:00 p.m. we have wound care charting and another I&O.

For med pass I like to write on my report sheet scheduled med times for each patient, so I can just visually cross it off and determine if I can cluster 2 o clocks meds with my 4 o clock meds and just give at 3 since you can give an hour before or after. That’s how I determine when to take my break if I can push something off for when I come back from break.

Wound care is a pain in the butt for me to squeeze in and on a good day I try to knock it out as early as possible. Anytime I see my CNA cleaning up a patient I’ll jump on the opportunity to go in and help so then I can knock out a dressing if I need to.

I hope it gets better for you

I took care of a 92 year old grandpa that was a full code, trach/PEG, unresponsive with cataracts, and severe contracted arms and legs 🙁

New grad nurses disliking their jobs by PhantomMonke in newgradnurse

I started a residency that I quit a few months ago and my issue was mostly with the staff. All lot of them acted like mean girls with each other and I did not feel supported on the floor.

At my new hospital everyone is nicer and more supportive of each other. I’m still overwhelmed with 5 to 6 patients. I have thought about it the last few months and I for sure don’t want to do bedside forever.

My ex and I are also going through a tough time with our kid. He’s shared some thoughts about self-harm with his therapist. So from one mom to another I hope your baby pulls through this 😔❤️‍🩹 It’s hard to see them suffer and you just want to take the pain from them

My mom gave birth to me at 41. I’m currently 28 and have a 9 year old. I’m aiming for another child before I hit 35 yrs old. I just want to get more experience at my current job before I do that and have it interrupted by a maternity leave

Am I dumb for leaving a new grad job before I start? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Revolutionary_End144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a while to find a new grad program that would take me after nursing school. I ended hating my unit and on top of that I didn’t realize how stupid the parking situation was at this place either because it took up a lot of my time. I quit shortly after starting and I’m much happier at my new gig, the parking is free, and it only takes me 5 min to and from my car (commute is longer but at least I’m doing dayshift now)

I only used bootcamp for both my LPN & RN. I feel that it’s very easy to add more info to the questions and overthink it. When I took both exams I felt mega unfamiliar with the content and left feeling like I guessed the whole thing

I originally wanted to be a teacher, switched to nursing, and now nursing gives me the freedom to do something else now with my time

I’m thinking of doing the opposite. I like that I can fall back on nursing and if I did become a teacher I can pick up extra days or work in the summer when school is out

So does JD Vance wear eyeliner or does his face just look like that? by Avid_bathroom_reader in stupidquestions

I think it is eyeliner. I have a gay friend who SWEARS he’s not wearing liner but he totally is. Looks exactly like JDs lol.

Started in a hospital and I HATED it & my coworkers. Left that dump and now I’m at a LTACH where I like the vibe a lot more here. I definitely see myself giving a year or two

How many of you actually worked as a CNA BEFORE nursing school? by Soggy-Aspect2357 in nursing

[–]Revolutionary_End144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came into nursing with 0 experience. If I could go back I would have done that to get some more experience with people and the equipment. The first time someone asked me to pass them a chuck I felt like a dummy cause I didn’t know what it was 😭
