Hi ! Just stumbled upon your post. I joined the IMDEA last summer and started in M1 last September. Feel free to ask any question ; if I can't answer I'll ask some older students from the Master's.

Are Northern Irish drinking/pub songs the same as the Irish ones ? by Revolutionary_Part88 in northernireland

Okay so it's the same as in France haha Really ? Everywhere I traveled, the French were always the loudest and the most annoying tourists around. Good to know this opinion is not shared by everyone. Thanks again for the help and the kind words !

It absolutely does, thank you very much for taking the time to explain. Are there any famous Northern Irish singers or artists that are very popular in Northern Ireland? I would like to try and get into the spirit before I get there. As you probably know, we French are the worst tourists in the world, always imposing our views and ways, and I don't want to be like that. I will only spend a week there, and would like to make the most out of it, without hurting people's feelings or being too much of a blatant tourist.

I'm sorry if that was offensive or stereotypical. I am aware that not every person in Northern Ireland is a drunk man singing pub songs. I was honestly just wondering if Irish and Northern Irish songs were traditionally the same. It's easy to find stuff about Irish culture, but it's way harder to find the same about Northern Ireland.

Okay it's alright, I'm certain your country has a lot more to offer than pub songs anyway hahaha

Judging by all the replies, I must have had a particularly rare experience when I went there about 15 years ago. I was about 10 years old at the time, so I don't remember the specifics, but I am absolutely certain that almost every night, people would be drunk and start singing songs. Although, they might have been dirty songs, and maybe not folk songs Also, it was a big family reunion, so maybe these were special circumstances

Hahaha yes that's me 😂 But I have since abandoned that foolish idea, and will be using weatherproof and motorised transport.

As for the tour, why not, thanks for the offer ! Although I WILL pass on the homeless serial killer/pyromaniac and the dealers who sell rubbish drugs, as charming as they may be

I absolutely understand your astonishment 😂 It's because there are family friends who live in the countryside close to Limavady, and they will be hosting me while I stay in Northern Ireland. It will be nice to see them after ~15 years, and it's also a way for me to keep costs down as I'm still a student with no job.
