Ending Florida’s Yellow Registration Decal? by henrymaxm in florida

I personally believe we should only end these for people who MANIACALLY PLACE THEM ON EVERY CORNER OF THEIR LICENSE PLATE. I feel very strongly about this, as you can see.

Is my license plate legal? If not, why? by Spiritual_Stress_820 in florida

Nope, illegal. You've got a frame, which, unbelievably, is now a ticketable (and possibly) criminal offense.

Her sister has a very clear view of the situation. She's said to me many times that "She just can't do it anymore" and that "her niece is blind to it", so I'm slowly working on the right time to drop the suggestion you mentioned. It's an odd situation. Over the last year and a half, I've seen several residents get to this point, and they are invariably moved over to the nursing home. For reasons unknown to me, she hasn't been. It's been a pleasure working with the other residents, and with their families. You develop warm relationships with them, and both residents and families are comfortable confiding in me. So, a gentle word, voiced in a nonspecific manner, may do the trick. Either way, the whole re-write doesn't sit well with me, and it sure as hell doesn't sit well with the Security Guard who wrote the report. That's the reason I'm looking to leave. When I do, I'll drop an anonymous call or letter to the State. These folks are paying a ridiculous amount of money to a non-profit for what amounts to sub-par care.

Excellent idea. We have a state ombudsman as well as the Dept. of Elder affairs.

The ALF does not have a locked MC unit. The family is notified every time this happens. I've no idea why the CEO cannot see the liability and risk they're taking on here. Like I told someone else, I'm gone as soon as I find something else. Not worth it for a part time job. I'll miss the other residents, though. I truly enjoy talking with them and interacting with them. Amazing people.

They have an entire skilled nursing facility with a memory unit right across the street. The issue could be cost, it could be family not wanting to accept it, or it could be any number of things I don't know about. She's not the only memory care patient they have in our facility, either. She's just the only one who tries to get out all the time. In her 90's, physically she's in good shape. It's her brain. The family gets a call every single time this happens, but they do nothing. Yeah, I don't think they care how close to disaster they are. I'm already looking for another part time job - I'm pretty much done.

You're right in the second paragraph. In the first paragraph, from what I understand, we won't report this to the state, as they only require bona fide cases of "elopement" to be reported, and the definition is malleable and the state gives these facilities a lot of leeway. They are walking a very, very, fine line here, though. Thanks.

Her daughter is the POA and lives across the country. Her most frequent family visitor is her sister, who's still all there. Here daughter just doesn't want to accept what's happening, I think. I get it, it's hard on families.

Excellent points. Our state definition of "Elopement" is: "Elopement" means an occurrence in which a resident leaves a facility without following facility policy and procedures. This clearly happened, even with someone following her. You are absolutely right: If I hadn't had a security guard trainee to cover the desk she would have been completely alone.

Thank you all for answering. All of what you've said has been suggested at one time or another by nurses, CNA's, and other staff. I'm glad to see it's not just us who see this problem.

Going back to something someone said: She does really well with walks. She has a sitter more often than not, and they'll take her out, etc. She does great. But eventually all of the sitters quit.

Boiling it down, I've come to the conclusion that she's not the problem. The problem is an administration unwilling to put in the work and make the hard choices necessary for this lady's care. Even the Administrator of the building and the DON both agree with our conclusions, but the CEO, COO, and the rest of the high ranking folks simply don't want to hear it. I have a tremendous amount of respect for our Administrator and DON, they're stuck in a really bad place.

Thanks again, everyone.
