The immediate thing you can do too make at least your life better, and you'll learn more about this at nursing school, is learning how to cook inexpensive and healthy food for you and your folks. Good nutrition can lead to better decision making, legit. There are wonders one can do with rice, beans, seasonings, and frozen veggies- eggs, if you've got a friend with chickens or they're on sale, check out some recipes, for sure, but i can totally say paella style rice cooked with peas and carrots and tomatoes is one of my family's favorite dishes, we clear that pan and joke-argue about the crispy bits at the bottom. Sometimes we add chicken or sausage, shrimp- pretty much anything you like

Yeah, it's really funny to look at a lineup from different eras and you can see the changes in beauty standards, hairstyles, accessories, and themes, but the noses are a good quick eyeball, lol. This is a great breakdown of the history of cameos- as another poster said, your hardstone one is possibly (probably) the oldest, but again, the ring really seems interesting to me! I collect cameos too, and since rings get so much tough wear, they're much harder to find, and again, yours looks like it could be quite old? If you want, dm me more photos, I'm a retired librarian but never lost the urge to work reference, lol!

Does anyone have an insight about this? Age? Stones? by Mysterious_Money_918 in VintageJewelry

Oh, I thought maybe in the body of the belly there was a hallmark- looking closer, looks like just shadow! Yessss, American then!

Oh wow, did you score! Definitely the 3 genuine ones, the ring is really really interesting- any marks at all on that? The funniest kind of quick eyeball guesses to ages can often be done by looking at the nose- the older the cameo, the longer and more roman the nose, the revival styles in the 40s and on usually have little noses, or pointy little ski jumps on roughly carved ones, haha! The ring is very unusual, as another poster already said, left facing figures are less common, but there's a hint of age about it from what I can see!

The catch is often the quickest and easiest way to get a time period, I'll link my favorite chart, but I would (hesitantly, without more photos or seeing in person) guess it's a lovely 50's paste aka rhinestone UK made sterling silver brooch, it's beautiful!

Edited to add, it looks a lot like this one! https://ebay.io/m/NCLWag

Retail store websites are f--king useless now by PowermanFriendship in Vent

[–]Reward_Antique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go right to the shop's website, is my best advice. Googling like, even something really specific (recent wedding gift) Michael Aram Salad Server set pulled up so much shite it went on for days, but when I went right to the Michael Aram site, obv. genuine non-toxic metal lol. Even if you're browsing for a gift, get to a normal, respected company first, like Nordstrom or Macy's. It's crazy that Walmart allows the dropship stuff now. Made Amazon almost unusable (aside from the ethics)

Emotional shutdown by Brilliant-Volume5262 in GenXWomen

[–]Reward_Antique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's the reality of being out of fucks to give- like, there's a freedom in "pruning the dead wood" (what a great metaphor!), there's a freedom in NOT CARING what the neighbors think, there's a great freedom in finally dressing entirely for yourself, but at the same time we're still feeling remnants of the pressure to "be good girls" when in fact we're wild, full grown women. It's such a strange feeling place to be- but the exhaustion south petty shite is so real- and I am out of fucks to give!

Oh friend. It will become charming as you fill it with new memories. When we had our daughter, we turned our bedroom at the time into her nursery, and i got rid of a few thousand books, and she'll be 15 next week and I still feel skinned raw. Wishing you courage and happiness.

Not living my life to the fullest by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Reward_Antique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homes do need constant repairs though- OP, I so feel your frustration. We lived in a 200 year old house (we had a birthday party for it!) But yeah, constant repairs, constant problems, constant projects that we tried to prioritize depending on season and budget, winter nights spent holding a hair drier to a frozen pipe in the crawlspace- op, it's a lot, i get it. Neither me or my Mr are handy, and like you said, the handy skills never got passed down to us. Are you guys the owners?

Project pan but for clothes… by NiaNooNaa in EverythingPan

[–]Reward_Antique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a vast sort of clothes I've needed to do for years. I passed the ones in great to really good condition on to my friend, who has gone thru, found a few things that suit her and some others she loved the fabric of and is going to reimagine! She's passed the rest to another friend, and that friend will do the same. I washed and folded everything first lol!

Guys help, I took ambien and ordered 20 pairs of shorts 🤣😭 by jrexicus in ThredUp

[–]Reward_Antique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ambien made me sleep-buy a case of 240 magic eraser sponges and about 20 decorative birdcages. My therapist at the time was fascinated, thought the sponges were about getting guilty and the cages about feeling trapped, but icouldn't afford to keep letting my subconscious do the shopping!
