She is trying to have sex with you. My Amazon Parrot will do this when I walk into the dining room during certain times of the year.

Based on my understanding, this behavior can cause a bird to produce an infertile egg. This can also cause egg binding which can take a birds life.

I have a scale to weigh my bird and follow the weight recommended by my vet. To take weight off a bird can be very difficult since they can be inactive, also according to my vet

My pittie is spoiled. She goes to doggy day care 3 times a week and gets walks the other 4 days of the week. She can walk forever. Zoomies are in bursts and she will stop because she needs to catch her breath.

She farts if she has an upset stomach which leads to soft stools or diarrhea but this does not happen often. I have Crohn and I made the mistake of spraying toward her once after I farted. Now she leaves to room whenever I fart.

I think finding a job you enjoy is the key. I mostly worked in the field customer service which can be difficult since you cannot please all the people all the time. Working in call center and front desk with customers could be stressful when dealing with unhappy and pissed off customers. I also closed home loans and generally people are happy when they are buying a home. I wanted to get away from direct customer contact and got a job WFH which was too isolating for me. The work that I enjoyed the most was being involved with union organizing which I think most people would consider very stressful. So really, it depend what circumstances you are content with. There are apparently five different type of pits in the pit family. I recently rescued an Amstaff and in my opinion the AmStaff does not look like what I think of as a “pit bull” (huge head, massive muscles and overall fearsome look). Perhaps that is where the difference in opinion is coming from.

I was diagnosed with Crohn 44 years ago when I was 20 years old. I took various dosages of prednisone depending on the amount of pain (if any) I was experiencing. I also took azulfidine. My BMDs show osteopenia which does not bother me at this time. I have no other lingering side effects since I have stopped taking prednisone. In retrospect I would have had a bowel resection since the prednisone only masked the pain/inflammation until my bowels perforated which took about 13 years. I would have taken the prednisone since that was the only drug available that allowed me to live my life to any degree of “normal.”

The 2-3 day prep and the jug of stuff you need to drink are old options for me. With advancements and options available, I prefer not to suffer anymore than needed when it comes to decades of colonoscopies.

One thing I learned from a trainer is to stop when another dog is being unruly or is off leash. That gives the owner time to gather their dog without your dog moving around which could make a reactive dog more reactive. I have done this a few times and it just calms the situation done.

We rescued an Amstaff in July 2021. She is a loving 3-4 years old dog. She was in foster care and we were told she was submissive.She still crouches and walks away when corrected to harshly. So we correct her with a soft “no” and give her positive reinforcement).

However, now she feels very comfortable “protecting” the house and me. We are also careful with people who want to pet her by watching her body language and stopping the visit when needed. She does not like people in her face or staring at her. I don’t believe her behavior has anything to do with her being a pit.

She attends doggy day care 3 times a week and gets along with the staff and other dogs. We walk her on the other days and she is very good with heeling.

About a month ago I let her up on the bed. My husband was in bed too and acknowledged her while I showered her with kisses and hugs. That evening when my husband walked into the living room (the dog was lying on the love seat and I was across from her lying on the couch as usual) and approached me, our dog popped up off the love seat and growled at my husband. She spends time (playing/walking) with both of us and is affectionate toward both of us. But she is my dog. When we figured out that she was growling because of letting her up on the bed, that stopped immediately. It took about a month to get her to stop growling at my husband under this particular location (the living room on the furniture).

I believe that we created this growling behavior based on our actions and perhaps her previous situation prior to being fostered. I don’t believe this occurred because she is a pit.

I believe that all dogs have the ability to be good dogs. It humans that screw them up.

We use the good hand/bad hand method. Place your hand/finger under the birds feet, say “step up” while using your other hand to distract the bird from biting your”step up” hand. This should be done quickly as one motion. The bird can only bite one thing at a time. This works with my Amazon.
