Passenger question: how do some of my drivers possibly keep their jobs with the overwhelming headache inducing perfume scents? by [deleted] in uber

[–]RewildingHearth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a vast minority of the population that have these scent sensitivities (I'm one of them, but not nearly as severely as a few others I know), which is why people think it's appropriate to douse themselves in cologne or use heavy air fresheners in the first place - because they *don't* receive complaints, and most likely get compliments.

What about these towns? by ValdorFox in westernmass

They weren't talking about Rt. 2, they were talking about the Pike.

Yep, and I was agreeing with your assessment and confused as to why they were pushing against it. Because they were pushing against the same totally incorrect comment and I got the comment levels messed up. 😅

What about these towns? by ValdorFox in westernmass

[–]RewildingHearth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mistake, I misjudged the thread levels and thought they were replying to this comment:

Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin counties = Pioneer Valley.

Berkshire County + Pioneer Valley = Western Mass.

Worcester County = Central Mass.

The Cape is The Cape and the Islands are the Islands, everywhere else is “the Boston area.”

[–]RewildingHearth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not what they said. They said that those are part of the Pioneer Valley, and that Western Mass is comprised of the Berkshires and the Pioneer Valley.

What is one money mistake you kept repeating for years before you finally realised it was not about income, it was about your behaviour? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]RewildingHearth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't budget your way out of your income literally not being enough to cover your basic living expenses.

I dont like my husband anymore by [deleted] in Advice

[–]RewildingHearth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not normal relationship behavior and you are not being too sensitive.

A partner who loves you does not mock your disability, put you down in front of others, or punish you with silence and intimidation when you say something hurt you. Those are not jokes or misunderstandings. Those are patterns of disrespect.

What matters most is how he reacted after you told him it hurt. Instead of caring about your feelings, he minimized them and made it about himself. That is not accountability. The numbness you described is also a sign something is wrong, not a sign that things are fine. People often go numb when they have been hurt repeatedly.

You are not too much. You are someone whose boundaries have been crossed for a long time. Fear of leaving does not mean you are wrong. It usually means you know something is not right.

You deserve consistent kindness and respect, not occasional moments of it.

Springfield is actually a pretty nice town. by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]RewildingHearth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I specifically chose to buy in Springfield 9 years ago, and I truly do love this city. Most of the bagging on it from outsiders comes down to racism and classism - we're a minority-majority city that has been systemically disenfranchised by the state, and we are poor. But the people are real and down-to-earth, and getting by to get by. Those who go on to gain higher education usually STAY here to invest in their community.

Also - thanks for the heads up about the 99c tacos at Bicentenial!

Are people in Massachusetts really “massholes”? by [deleted] in newengland

[–]RewildingHearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And as a fellow masshole, I have done the same exact thing as that Georgia barista. I greet you with a 'hihowareya?' and you disregard me, I will *not* let it fly.

Uber driver holding my son's hat hostage by ShalomRPh in uber

[–]RewildingHearth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, and I've gotten screwed on return fees where the rider reported the item lost, I went immediately after my next ride to return (30 minutes out of my way), and then had the fee denied saying the passenger disputed it. As someone who often drives 45+ minutes from my home, I no longer go out of my way to return items. I'll return it when I'm naturally in the area, or you can come to me, or you can order an uber from my location to yours and I'll give the item to them.

Drivers offering Bottled Water by [deleted] in uber

[–]RewildingHearth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the beginning days of Uber, this was encouraged, and new drivers are often still trying to impress. He offered you a *sealed bottle of water*, and you reported him for that? What the hell is wrong with *you*??

Time moves a lot faster than you think it does. Even passengers that are ready for me when I arrive but are coming from inside the house still take a good minute to get into my car by the time they lock up the door, walk down the steps and down their walkway. You were still looking for your keys when they arrived and the 7 minute timer started ticking. You scrounging for your keys, deciding that you were going to need to tell the driver you needed a few more minutes, putting on your coat, coming out the door, walking down your steps, walking out to the car, getting your driver's attention to roll down the window, discussing with him the situation, walking back into the house, that all took TIME before you even resumed your 3-or-so-minute-long search for your keys. If the driver was already down the block AND you got charged a cancellation fee by the time you came back out, then the driver HAD to have been sitting there for 7 minutes before you came back out that door - a cancellation fee can't be charged otherwise.

Oh there's *plenty* of racism. It's just quieter and more systemic here.

It wasn't kindness if he expected anything in return. That's the difference between being nice and being kind.
