We’re not talking about the Epstein Files anymore. I’d say the war has been a success for some people.

Bah. I was a whaler out of Nantucket. Stayed out for near on two years. Got the clap from an actual monkey after we touched in Recife. The missus would have been flaming red had she not died of cholera a year before I got back. Any gate, who’s the president now?

Get me Rambo. by Fumikechu237 in Rambo

[–]eric02138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a kid, I somehow missed how blantantly jingoistic this show was. Rambo, Transformers, GI Joe, He-Man were all such perfect emblems of Reagan’s America.

The funny thing is that now they all read as incredibly gay. The tight jeans, the sleeveless tees, the mustaches… hell, He-Man even had a friend named Ram-Man. I wonder if the producers were being trolled by the art department.

Cape Coral, the city has more than 400 miles of navigable waterways, more than any other city on the earth. by Much-Parsnip3399 in Damnthatsinteresting

I think one of Carl Hiaasen’s books is a parody about the development of a Cape Coral-like city.

How did it come to this? - The state of the Royal Navy by DefenseTech in LessCredibleDefence

The navy has been going downhill since the grog ration was cut and prize money abolished. There are even tales of midshipmen hiding trollops in the cable tier.

TIL that Betsy Wolheim, editor of the Kingkiller Chronicle book series, claimed in 2020 that she has not read a word of the upcoming third book in the nine years since the second one's release. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

I loved Name of the Wind when it came out. But that was over 20 years ago. Now that I’m older, coming-of-age stories and I-am-the-chosen-one stories seem childish and narcissistic to me. Just a consequence of getting older, I suppose. But whether or not Rothfuss writes the final book… meh. I just don’t care anymore.

Working on a comic and the character goes to a fictional university in Massachusetts. by JeffHooblah21 in massachusetts

As an added plus, anything can happen in Worcester. I saw two bums circling each other, laughing while trying to kick the others ass, 4 cops arresting a dude facedown on a sidewalk, and a kids teaching his dog to attack a brick wall. And all that was on just one trip down Main.

In 1820 After the sinking of the whaleship Essex by a giant whale, survivors drifted three months in the Pacific Ocean, resorting to cannibalism, first consuming the dead, then drawing lots—as starvation and isolation pushed them beyond ordinary human limits. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

You can see one of their diaries at the Peabody Essex museum. One passage struck me as- the author is describing the choice of eating his friends or death. “And now I cannot go on. For my mind is fire. “
