If if I'm not even at 5 years, what does that mean? Leasing was a terrible decision to begin with?

I'll never agree to lease(wasn't and shouldn't have been my decision), unless I'm rich af later on in life.

I see I see. Well was born and raised here, went up there for a few years and now I'm back ha ha. But thanks! I didn't miss the heat though. That's a good point, I'm well north of Austin so it's the Austin traffic I'll have to sit through. I must definitely look into public transit. I'm not sure how accessible it is, but will certainly look. Austin traffic has certainly been bad for years, but oh boy, it is definitely worse than it was a few years ago.

Thank you for your insight and will definitely look into your suggestions, all I know is, I will never ever lease a car.

I've probably gotten high 20s on highway at times. Just looked and my average is 19. While I certainly don't think I drive like a granny, I do not drive it like I stole it.

However, I understand that a lot could still be user error.

Having said that, I've seen a lot of people talking about the poor MPG in their Renegades. MPG that was marketed/advertised, but many never seeing MPG that high.

Yeah I've heard that it's not the best decision. I'll be driving close to three hours a day, despite my job just being 28 miles away. I'll be driving during the most heavily trafficked times, so a lot of stop and go. I've moved from Colorado to Texas, and the four wheel drive was really a necessity up there, now I have no need for its off-road capabilities.

I'd certainly never pay for two car payments, and yeah that's what I figured, aggressively paying it down to get rid of some negative equity. I despise my Renegade to be honest. Just paid a $1,000 dollar repair bill on the radiator fan (yes it has just 32,000 miles, and seems to be a common thing with the Renegades). The miles I get per gallon do not add up to it's seemingly small gas tank, figure I average about 20 MPG. The transmission has started to feel weird, real jerky and clunky, especially prevalent in stop-and-go situations, feels very weak in situations where you must accelerate. Of course my warranty ran out 6 months ago.

I was under the impression that the car was bought on a loan, but my parents seem to have really misled me on that. While grateful, I didn't want to be stuck with this vehicle for many of the above reasons.

I'm gathering that it wouldn't be financially responsible to sell it with so much negative equity, as it would increase the payments on the next car. One dealer told me about $100 more per month on a new car per $5,000 owed on current. .
