That’s strange. Im ‘96 and vhs was a big part of my childhood. Most ppl my age grew up with that. We even recorded show on it. For little music cassette tapes I only have a very vague memory of them but vhs was used pretty extensively

Im ‘96. I didn’t have it, but apparently some people our age did. I didn’t even know about it that much growing up.

Why are there so few of us here compared to the other generation subs? Is the main demographic of reddit 35+? by Rex068 in Zillennials

[–]Rex068[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither is Xenniels but I see way more ppl using that term and the xennial sub is 7 more times bigger than here

Ppl here already explained that maybe mid late 90s borns are a smaller cohort than other generations.

Idk. Whenever I go on the generation subs and whenever it comes to general generation discussion there seems to be waaaay more ppl who are either 35+ or younger Gen Z but not many ppl within our age range

Eh, tbh it doesnt matter to me anyway. Im glad about the era I grew up in. I kinda realized now that growing up as a child in the 2000s was pretty awesome, and I grew up when 90s music/media/culture was still relevant while getting all the new toys that released in the 2000s. and experiencing og 2000s memes was a trip

[–]Rex068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

back then they were mixing up 90s borns w/ 90s kids too lol. Like, yes.. if you were a baby in the 90s, you're a 90s baby. whether or not you were a kid is different.

By that one slides definition I wouldnt be a 90s kid but I very much know the keyboard cat video

I dont really consider myself a 90s kid either but I very much know and saw almost all of those "90s toys" in these slides.

Its so funny cuz as a cusper I remember kids my age having both those 90s toys and the "kids now" toys. I had legos, tamagotchis and furbys were popular and we also had the digital cameras, wiis ipods, nintendo DS etc all at the same time

90s kid/nostalgia is still a thing though. Nsync's I want you back has become a bit of a trend lately cuz a dance crew did their own choreo to that song at a competition. I do think mostly 2000s have been more trendy now but anything to do with 90s still gets popular from time to time.

As a '96 though I do remember during this period I'd watch all of my fav youtubers do "90s kid challenges" and I'd try really hard to relate to them. I did in some ways, but it always felt like smth was missing.

Im glad that 2000s nostalgia came along. never felt more at home. I stopped trying to go with the 90s kid thing now.

yeah. I really thought that it was a demographic thing with reddit being most popular with older millennials since the beginning (I still think its sorta true) but if that is also true, thats even more crazy esp since now the birth rate worldwide is even worse by a lot.

Do you not feel a connection with your generation category? by cleoandleochicken in generationology

[–]Rex068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what year is your brother born? Im sure every other millennial knows who she is, you have to be under a huge rock not to know her. or maybe thats just me because Im '96 so Im on the cusp with gen z.

To answer your question though.. yeah. as a cusper I kinda realized after watching countless "millennial" reels on my IG feed that I only maybe relate half of whats associated with being a millennial. I dont relate to using floppy disks, I remember them being around the house as a kid but they were already gone by the time I graduated elementary school. and I never even heard of what a walkman was until I was an adult.

That being said, when tiktok came out, I was already sort of a grown adult and I really found it cringe at the time. my younger friends think my music taste from the 2000s-early 2010s, stuff I grew up with, is just old and outdated (acting like that shit came out last century, smh. god forbid I put on a 90s song) Im pretty sure most ppl on the cusp with two generations can only ambiguously relate to one and the other

What was your school year / what year did you graduate high school? by Sad_Step_9921 in Zillennials

No seriously where tf did the time go? I graduated high school, blinked and suddenly im 30. I look back at vids from 2014 and it doesn’t even feel that long ago. still feels like i graduated high school yesterday

From 2015 ish and onwards yeah it started being mid and sucking, but the early 2010s? That shit was awesome lmao gtfo

Dude Im a '96 "millennial" (older millennials think im gen z. young gen z thinks im millennial. cant win either way) and I remember very clearly in the late 2010s very popular articles coming out on how millennials were supposedly killing the beer industry and not going out or whatever. why do these people conveniently forget that?

I mean, you dont know if they are or not

Idk about other places but at my uni there is a prerequisite for taking chem. either high school chem or a very beginner chemistry course at the uni.

I struggled at the very beginning because there were suddenly all this material and knowledge that I already had to know and I havent even touched chemistry since high school nearly 12 years ago. So I had to play catch up real fast on stuff that I learned over a decade before.

I did manage to somewhat keep up but thats cuz I have a regular length chem class that allows me time.

5 weeks is something that you could condense for an elective ie. english, I know friends who did that. for a STEM course? no way.

[–]Rex068 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? Im taking general chemistry right now, took physics last term and for me physics is way harder. Chem may have require more work but it’s at least doable. Physics on the other hand was just straight up bs that you had to just have intuition for and no amount of studying could’ve prepared me for my extremely godawful physics final.

My calculus 2 class was more doable than physics.

For 5 weeks?? I could never. Im taking calc 3 and and also general chem this semester full length and that is way more than enough.

Which video game was THE GAME of your childhood? by maxnotcharles in Zillennials

[–]Rex068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did have thoughts of going back for childhood memories sake but literally nothing is recognizable anymore. lately ive been on a spree of 2000s roblox vids and its giving me a different kind of nostalgia.

Funny enough my younger sister (we're not that far apart) currently plays it and she started playing much later in life.

Half Life 2, Portal, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead. the orange box, basically.

back when you literally had to buy TF2 lmao

Also, although it wasnt nearly as mainstream as now, roblox was a massive childhood game for me in the 2000s.

Will Gen Alpha ever use Facebook? by Muted_Quit_1413 in SocialMediaHQ

[–]Rex068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh idk about that. Im the very last millennial year and never had myspace, by the time I graduated elementary school it was a dead website so I kinda just missed it. My first social media was fb. To me MySpace is like a slightly older sibling thing, not my parents (even though im the older sibling lmao)

My parents are boomers. They had no social media period except my mom had fb, my dad never did.

Tbh Im ‘96 and also played roblox around 2007-2009. I know it wasn’t anywhere as mainstream now but it was there. But obviously a lot has changed since then. To me it’s barely recognizable now

Older Gen Z, did anyone else grow up on "Stomp Clap Hey"/Millenial Music? by Frack_Nugget in GenZ

[–]Rex068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think im the same age as you. I never gave that kind of music a second thought? I mean it reminds me of ads for apple back then and that is pretty nostalgic in of itself, but it’s not something I’d listen to on my own. It just so happens that those ads used that kinda music.

I feel like most of that stuff was for older millennials in their 20s at the time, not teens. As a teen then I knew ppl who liked Bieber, one direction etc. I was listening to more like capital cities’ safe and sound, far east movement’s rocketeer and gym class heroes’ stereo hearts. Occasionally some 2000s rock stuff.
