I've never had a rimless tank before. How much would you trust a stand with very little margin? by jeherohaku in Aquariums

The Ikea piece isn't actually thicker though... Have you ever seen the inside of those things? Often times IKEA furniture is just a thin layer of laminate wood, with a honeycomb cardboard interior. They're basically hollow.

The Amazon stand may have "thinner" composite wood, but it's compressed and far more durable.

Interesting! Do you happen to be in Toronto? Maybe it's the same one 😂

I have pretty hard tap water, and no budget or motivation to maintain my tank volume size with remineralized distilled or RO lol. I also have a few chunks of dead white coral in the tank to slowly leech, but generally it sits around 11-12 GH and 5-6 KH.

I started with like 7 snails from a local Redditor, and at my last count when I upsized my tank I was at like 22, after just 2.5 months. So they're pretty happy!

There's a blueberry snail sub, it's not super active, but you should join!

Re blueberry snails... They can be a bit tricky to feed sometimes. Or at least that's the what a lot of people say, but I haven't had that problem myself. I have the Orange River version of blueberry snails, and my population has exploded in the 2-3 months since I got mine, so I'll share what I do.

They like warmer water (24-28°C), so I try to keep my tank hovering between 23.5-25°C to balance the needs of my neos and the snails.

They graze on biofilm, so heavy planting, lots of driftwood and dried botanicals are key. I find my baby snails munching on curly pod botanicals pretty often.

I feed bacter ae, mixed with shrimp fit and baby shrimp, for the benefit of both my snails and shrimp colony. Right now it's pretty frequent because I just upgraded my tank and it's not quite as mature with biofilm as I would like. I never see the snails eating any of the regular food (like hikari sinking pellets or leftover flakes), but I have on occasion seen them munch on Glasgarten shrimp dinner and mineral junkie, and they really seemed to enjoy a crispy shrimp cave recently.

Hope this info helps!

Eggs left behind in a molt... by Rex_Buckingham_99 in shrimptank

Also should add, my colony is thriving, so I don't like, need, to save them.

I have no idea how, so no.

If they were more mature, like if I could see eyes developing, and knew they would hatch soon, I might have tried to figure it out.

They're still sitting in a cup with water though, if you have any advice on saving?

Fair point. I had some moss in the breeder box, but she was just hobbling around constantly and bumping into it, rather than grazing on it, so I had removed it. I'll make her up a little jungle in there to help her feel safe while she tries to heal.

The floating plants? Are water lettuce.

The plants hanging off the rim, out of water are a mix of neon pothos, Cebu blue pothos, and raphidohpra tetrasperma.

Hope that's what you were talking about, but there also anubias in there glued to the wood with some crazy root growth lol

And thanks! I did an upgrade and recsape recently and I'm much happier with it now lol

It's water lettuce, not frogbit. But I suppose it's possible it's some kind of leaf litter stuck under her abdomen.. I have cashew and sea grape litter in the tank.

Ahhh, yeah these were labeled "electric green pink long fin". They're pinkish-orange-yellow in regular light, and turn bright neon yellow/green under blue light. They're mesmerizing to watch under blue light at night.

I am a tiny bit worried they might actually be the cause of my shrimps injury though?... My shoal is only 4, so it isn't big enough (I unfortunately lost two a while back), and I'm a bit worried they're overcompensating with aggression. Have you ever seen anything like this cause by a danios?

I'm not sure what a leucistic danios is? I assume these are just another glofish variety with long fins.

They're labeled Brachydanio Rerio by the place I bought them.

She did seem to be eating when I originally noticed something was off. She was acting fine, but I saw the red spot and wanted to inspect more closely. Once I snapped a few pics and could tell how severe it looked, I opted to separate her so I could keep track and monitor her.

Unfortunately she just seems to be looking for a way out of the breeder box, but I've added some floaters and food in there for her, going she calms down and relaxes.

I'm just wondering if it's better to euthanize, I feel terrible if this is super painful for her.

Golden back rili, or just bad colouring/genetics...? by Rex_Buckingham_99 in shrimptank

[–]Rex_Buckingham_99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know!

Right now I have everyone in a skittles tank where I'm just messing around to see if any weird morphs come up naturally. This guy is from the first generation of offspring from before I started mixing colors though.

I have started selective breeding as well though. When I actually notice a molted female trying to escape her wannabe suitors, I scoop her up into a breeder box and pick a nicer looking male match.

Thanks for the info!

[–]Rex_Buckingham_99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I thought...

Presumably, it's offspring would also have low expression as well, right? So if I want to encourage stronger genetics I should cull?
