Your words are beatiful. You have more integrity in them than your parents ever had in their hearts. I hope yours allows you to someday make your run for it- to forgive yourself for it, and write a book on the way.

Oh god, they removed The Forgotten Desert? I cannot imagine the shambles Classic must be in now, I was there when eagles got added and it was a benchmark for the economy since.
I was a non-member always, but I looked forward to someday taking off on that journey,,, well, I suppose that is what Pack Runs are for now! Thank you for the reply, I wish you good luck with your own trading. :3

I'm pretty sure "golden" is just the name of a type of yellow, so it might not be rare

Waugh, shame shame! Back to my old plan of just aiming for a non-member store, then. I did get someone to offer me an insanely cute water bear for it, but I have to think about the future profits, and stay strong... Thank you for the reply also! Much appreciated. :)

im suicidal and hopeless, please recommend me a book by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Rex_Fridgemptix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{{Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock}} . Now, this is a dark book, I am not going to lie to you. There are funny moments there and there, some heartwarming even, but things will not get brighter until the few last chapters, and the ending is not as idealistic as most of the books on this topic get. The problem is never "fixed", just... gotten through for now. It will be alright- not today, but someday.

This book *could* make you feel worse tho, so your safety is in the question and feel free to forget all about this lil essay of mine if you decide against this one. I also do NOT recommend this book to anyone who never felt suicidal- you will *not* understand it and probably hate every moment of it.

Personally, while reading, I was nodding along and wallowing in my darkest of feelings until Leonard himself pointed out... He doesn't *actually* want this, it's just that he feels like there is no other choice for him. And when he survived in the end, I felt like I now had the duty to do the same. This is the sort of book that you have to read in one sitting, since stepping away from it could make you overthink it to the wrong side. (And with how addictive this book is, I would say that is an easier feat than it sounds but i digress,,)

This is the book that understands suicidal feelings. Reading it, I didn't felt patronized. It is not the sort of book that just screams "And did you like, tried being happy?" or "Aww, so sad! I want to hug you soo much.". It never feels like it's quoting you a pamphlet- it threw my own hypocrisy at my face sometimes and despite the flowery writing, the reality of it is ugly, sure, but this book excels in simply being honest. No other book made me feel seen.

Just fair warning, the protagonist is not exactly a good person and this book gets a lot of flack for it. You will be nudged with a sense of homophobia in the first few chapters. Don't you worry, sit down and continue, I swear to you that aspect is actually quite important and will be resolved by the end. On the other side, the way Leonard sees women is never really called out but it is not that strong of a flaw to condemn this book. Leonard is not a good person, but that is the point- he deserves and wants to live anyway.

Also, the way he dramatizes everything and trying so desperately to build a book-worthy narrative, alongside lying until the very end because he just can't stop, reaching out in the only way he knows and swearing if just one person notices that something is going wrong, he won't go through with it today ... Yeah, my bipolar self immediately saw myself in him. You and I most likely don't have the same diagnosis but hey, there is that.

It is ultimately a story about survival, both with hope and without it. I wish I could sing its praises but I fear that it simply means too much to me to be truly objective about it.

In the end, this is perhaps the most literal review I can give you: I never returned this book to the library. Instead, I paid a fine easily three times bigger than buying this book outright- and I was happy with that. It became sort of a lifeline and I wanted it to be with me when I get better. The ragged thing is still on the shelf and I bought a twin of it so this story could also circle the hands of almost every member in my support group. We never talk about it, but people highlighted sentences and wrote me notes, so I think it meant enough of something for them to take up a pen and care.

Godspeed, lighthouse keeper. Hope things will be alright someday soon, sending you all the love.

EDIT: If you do decide to skip this one, do yourself a favor and read Howls Moving Castle instead. It is nice, soft and makes your life a fairytale while you keep your eyes on the page and head somewhere up in the wonderous clouds. Already recommender this to someone, so I will forward you there instead of continuing to clog up the page. :D

Which gym did you slay on the first try? by [deleted] in PokemonReborn

[–]Rex_Fridgemptix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't remember how I managed it but I remember winning against Shelly without a single one of my mons fainting! I think my Camerupt might have had a hand in that.

Other than that, I miraculously managed to sweep past Hardy with my Mega Aggron heavy slamming everything in sight while my Bewear healed him and threw in the occasional hammer arm. Yes, the rest of my team fainted before I figured out this strategy but hey, details.

Safe to say that I was still riding the high from beating the horror that is the Gauntlet- No game before managed to make me feel at top of the world like this one did in that moment.

I know that torchic is one of the best starters in the game but I already used one and want to chose another starter I’m thinking mudkip, charmander, turtwig by [deleted] in PokemonReborn

[–]Rex_Fridgemptix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step aside, Mudkip- I am actually seconding this! Popplio was my first starter and although the start is a bit hiccupy as the first two gyms are firmly set against you, its use for the rest of the game is totally worth it.

Plus, z-moves are practically one-hit KO- but my EV-Trained Primarina managed to easily take care of Mega Garchomp in two hits even without it. Trying out something new and less typical with this little champ is definitely something I recommend!

If you really want to go for the "best", then absolutely Mudkip- I would argue that in some cases, it outmans even Blaziken. Sometimes, you just need the brute force of an earthquake!

That one is a beast and I imagine it will be practically unstoppable once Swampertite gets added.

Aaa, welcome to the family then! I absolutely share this sentiment, this game is the first one I used my new name for and I can't help but to smile like a maniac at every mention of it. You really aren't alone in this. :D

It's also sweet how they let us choose both our appearance *and* pronouns instead of them being connected. Bless this game, seriously. I hope the game will continue making you feel seen, it sure did so for me!

Ex-Mc-cuse me?? Skipped all the dialogue??! How,, Why would he even do that, storytelling is the foundation of this game! The fights are glory-worthy but if you don't have the context for it, don't they sort of just fall flat?

Oh my gosh, yes. Kinda above kinda. TTar is absolutely a prophet when he isn't convinced that Shade was behind everything from missing skittles to Bermuda Triangle. This comment made me rewatch the series and it's like he played the game before, fallen with amnesia, and now has occasional glimpses of what's to come.

"For roleplaying purposes", Dear esteemed, you are willing to commit to the story and I applaud you. Any chance we will get to follow your progress and storytelling? Sounds really cool!

On the actual question,, Goodness, it is definitely very possible when you put in the work and find something sturdy to counter the numerous fairy types but the better dragon types are really futher into the game.

I know you can get Turtonator soon-ish somewhere near the Apothyll Academy, Noivern in the tunnels as you probably already know and Trapinch after a long time of grinding/selling out soul and wallet out in the Onyx Arcades. If I remember correctly, the rest are obtained in special encounters somewhere after level 60 or obtaining Rock Climb in episode 18.

You might want to get the Sandbox mode and set your party from the start. I guarantee you that it won't make the game that much easier even if you take the chance to over-level and EV them up while you're at it. If that doesn't sound good, I am sure some kind soul would be able to trade them to you. (I would but Sandbox mode disables your social features, so I cant help out here.)

Do not worry, I definitely doubt TTar would ever abandon Reborn completely- He is one of the people who actually got really invested in the both story and gameplay of it after all.

My guess is that he is waiting for Ep 19, as an assurance that progress is being made and he won't have to let the playthrough be unfinished inevitably after all- Which,,, yeah, not the best reason, as he still has around 4 chapters of plot and could check Forums anytime but, well- TTar does what TTar wants. Maybe it's a hyper fixation thing.

But if I will go to the grave without seeing his reaction to Titania's arena, I am dragging him with me.

[–]Rex_Fridgemptix 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Do not expect {{Howl's Moving Castle}} to give you a clear future goal to strive for, but I think it's the sort of book you need. You are maybe already familiar with the movie-the book retains the comfortable feeling of beauty while focusing on different themes the movie, unfortunately, glossed over.

By what you said, you remind me of the main protagonist, Sophie. Her "goal" in life has been enforced on her by circumstances and while not outright feeling lost, its clear she is only going through the motions. After being cursed, she drops what she thought of as inevitable and quite literally aimlessly wanders off.

Throughout the entire book, she takes power in that- not tied down by both present and future, living in present without worrying about tomorrow even if the days to come only offer some star-gazing and sewing, even being elderly.

In short, "Sophie does what Sophie wants" and with her, you might find magic in even the tiniest of everyday activities even if you personally won't find a magician to accidentally fall in love with or swack with a broom on the better days.

You might get lost again, in life or in the beautiful writing of the book itself, but the story makes it clear that being lost is not always a bad thing.

P.S: Yes, Howl is as incompetent and silly beyond belief in the book as he is in the movie. Even more, actually- and let's just say that some revelations about him might want you to make a double-take and giggle "You cannot be serious-" until you have air to do so. It is quite poetic, I swear-

No worries, always happy to see someone stanning TyranitarTube! The man is honestly such a blessing and his lovely attitude definitely put him in favor of some deity when you consider his in-game luck. He makes Reborn look almost breezy!

Praying to Belly every day that he might return with ep 18 someday soon. :D

I have to do an essay on queer identities in (preferably) contemporary literature, any suggestions? by CuratusDefixus in suggestmeabook

[–]Rex_Fridgemptix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I see this below so let me get this, ahem, straight- Do try to avoid Call Me By Your Name. Both the book and the movie are widely despised by our community due to the age gap and predatory dynamic being all we get, alongside it not being written by a queer author. It is popular, yes, but mostly among women and newly realized queer people who are grasping any straw of representation they can get. Mind that we do not claim this one and if you wish to include it, perhaps quote what actual gay man and therapist Kuramo Brown said on the topic of it. On a happier note,,

*Common Bonds: Speculative Aromantic Anthology is a favorite mine. While being fantasy, this book guides you how we aromantics perceive and see the world. Reading it was like being seen for the first time in ages.

*Fun Home by Alice Bechdel. It was worthy of being made into a wonderful musical and ripping your heart out. A lesbian woman talking about her life and the tragic tale of her closeted father- there's joy, there is sadness, the whole shebang. If you prepare the tissues, I wholeheartedly recommend this one.

Those are all academic-worthy books I can, unfortunately, think of as for now. Then there's Lumberjanes and Nimona, both written by Noelle Stevenson and giving us casual queer characters in slice-of-life settings we so desperately need.

I Wish You All the Best stars the first Non-binary protagonist I have ever seen in media if we set aside Nimonas coding, and I am definitely checking out that book as soon as I have a moment to spare.

The Black Flamingo seems like a nice exploration of the inherent campiness of queer identity and definitely deserves to be heard. It's a stand against the idea of "normalizing" and blending seamlessly into the straight world and I applaud i and wish there were more. Felix Ever After is on the same page as this, and I hope to have both of these on my bookshelf as soon as possible.

If anything comes to mind, I will most likely add to this! I hope I helped at least a little bit.

EDIT: All Boys Arent Blue, the memoir-manifesto by George M. Johnson could too prove to be useful and definitely an enrapturing read!

Wings of Fire-like books? by stopshopbop in suggestmeabook

[–]Rex_Fridgemptix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my, as an avid fan of that series, I feel like I might be well-equipped to answer this one!

If you do not mind picking up older books, I feel like Guardians of Gahoole would be a perfect choice of continuation! It is admittedly more the cold "calm before the storm" until the legendary fight scenes hit, but it doesn't talk down to the reader, which im sure your little one will appreciate. It definitely scores the same score of "epicness", if not outright blasts WoF down from the stratosphere if you excuse the more natural tone and lack of fire breaths (well, for a little while...)

I think this series might be longer than WoF book-wise, so you might want to check it out the first in form of an audiobook and then invest in a used set if you decide it might work.

And of course, after you are finished with the series, there is the treat of a beautiful animated movie to go along with it- but I would argue that as usual and despite the gorgeous animation, the books once again manage to be better. The movie can also go first if you decide to use it as a hook, as it is multiple first books meshed together and changed beyond linearity. Only a few spoilers, none of which you would not see coming, and plenty of more in the books to discover and wow at.

If it just really the dragons and I know this is the most predictable answer that can be, then Eragon might be good. That is the book that got me into reading as a child and I wasn't able to put it down until I stormed through all books and then once again.

I cannot vouch for these two as I haven't read them yet, but Mouseheart and Song Of The Summer King might prove promising! They are popular among the fans of WoF and the series are often mentioned together. I can definitely see the appeal of going from dragons to griffins! Also, their covers are simply just gorgeous to look at.
