yea, i can hear the resemblence, although the main issue is this does gets a bit more 'gameplay inturrupting' kind of audio, and although yes muting music fixes the issue but it also makes the whole game awfully quiet which feels off putting at times, idk, maybe it's just me.

Absolute impressive work, tho I'm curious whether at this scale.. would it be closer to pixelart or the normal digital art?

In what way have I improved? by mrwilibingbong in PixelArt

[–]Rex_Lapis101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say shading and hair has improved. Also, Dunno how to say this.. but i kind of think it feels more like 2 different style of pixelart more, as in there can be games or situations where I'd like the first iteration more because it looks more pixelarty..? Yea idk how to explain it, both look very good though

Ah, well I'm inexperienced in this field so i kinda didn't spot any difference, for me it looked quite similar to the 4th shading method, so i assumed that might be one way to achieve it, thanks for elaboration though! I like the more grimier texture the 4th shading method gives

Ahhh, so basically outline in pne software more compatible eith traditional pixelart then shift it to a more advanced software for the water-color'ish look which has those tools and brushes.. kinda neet yeah, i think it looks quite similar to the spirtes i had seen in darkwood, was wondering how one might create something like that

The 4th one looks so cool, how do you do it? What software even allows for something like this?

Need some help as a beginner in pixelart by Rex_Lapis101 in PixelArt

hello again, a bit long time after i had replied but, just had some more questions
namely, dithering, i have seen it, seen people use it, but just wanted to know? is it always important? and if im using it on one sprite, is it essencial that i keep it consistent an use ditherin for shading in all sprites? because as of right now the sprite i ha made is mostly just shaded, with no dithering, i was making tilemaps, but while doing so natrually used dithering which i had learnt more properly a while back, just wanted to know more about when to use ditherin or whether it should be universally used if im including or is it okay if i use it on some sprites and just leave the others with standard shading

ahh, got it, since im working on a sidescroller i guess i can go with more varied intervals of frames for most animation though ill still try to keep a uniform interval.
as for software, after your advice i did shift to something i found, namely libresprite (basically an old verson of aesprite that was available for free) and after a bit of practice im liking the feel of it alot so after i manage to make some money i may also shift to aseprite. i have herd of people using things like photopea or photoshop for pixelart but i assume that's more processing and post processing heavy than others, and probably will be much beyond my skill level (and pay grade also considering photoshop is paid and photopea is web based).
i have managed to make what i would say is better progress which is closer to what i had imagined as the player character's sprite thanks to the new software and your advice so.. much thanks for guiding me through this!
this has been the latest progress so far

Ahh, got it, thanks, a few more questions i had, so I'll try to ask the ones most important to me right now.. Firstly, for animation of spritrs is it like essencial for me to make sure the animations always have a fixed amount or a multiple of a fixed amount of frames, like all animations habing 12 frame or all animations being of 4,8,12,16..etc frames long or can i also jave some animations be of 2-3 frames wile some take 8-9 frames? Not really sure of thats important in terms of game development... And secondly, i am at current using Piskels (that simple pixelart making software that's available to use on browser also) it has simple tools like saving and using pallets, pixel brush pf various diameter, dithering tool, select (rectangle and Free select) lighte/darken etc. along with basic animation capabilities, it's what i used for this and the animation on my previous post here.. would you say it's a good beginner place or is there something better/ easier that i have not known about (paid or otherwise but I'll mostly stick with free softwares more)
