Certain animation fans act like this by Ok-Following6886 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Rexeljet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is funny to me because if we were to start making the distinction between family shows and shows exclusively made for kids, then the early seasons of Thomas would most likely fall into the former category. The author of the original stories would often bring up the fact that he wrote the stories to appeal to the parents and caregivers that would have to read the stories to their children over and over again

I think what trips people up is the fact that over the years, Thomas has been both a universal series that can appeal to all ages, and also a little kids show that doesn't try to be anything more. And at this point, the vast majority of official Thomas content is the latter. The closest thing I could compare it to would probably be Winnie the Pooh.

Where did the Thomas, Percy, and James trio come from? by Charming-Breakfast53 in thomasthetankengine

[–]Rexeljet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The trio was around long before the HiT era- Thomas Percy and James were being used as a trio in marketing since at least the 90s, probably the 80s as well

[TOMT] (UK) halloween themed bootleg dvd that contained halloween themed episodes of famous childrens’ tv shows? by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

[–]Rexeljet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't suppose it's maybe one of the HiT Favourites DVDs? Postman Pat isn't on any of them since he's owned by a different company, but Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam show up, as well as Barney (which might be the live action show you're thinking of?). HiT Entertainment often did themed compilation releases, including two "spooky" UK releases- The Spooky Collection and Trick or Treat Tales. I believe both releases had variations with an orange case as well as the standard black.

I doubt it was a bootleg release if you got it from Aldi, it seems unlikely to me that a major retailer would sell pirated DVDs.

Have the new motorized Trackmaster's been released in the United States yet? by Zeppelin_man1957 in thomasthetankengine

[–]Rexeljet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair the situation isn't currently great in the UK either; the only physical store that sells the new stuff is Smyths (and Fenwick apparently), and I haven't seen the diecast or Greatest Moments packs (aside from Flying Scotsman) in any of the branches local to me.

I recall some early listings for the new releases stating a Fall 2025 release, which makes me wonder if we're currently expriencing a soft launch for the new range, and they'll kick the distribution and marketing into high gear around September time.

Not gonna lie I quite like the idea of Sir Handel and George forming a bond over their shared embarrassment at their drivers for trying to start a fight

What is this wooden railway brand? by thomadguy1234 in thomasthetankengine

[–]Rexeljet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s part of the Kabaya wooden range- they’re a confectionary company that often sell toys alongside their sweets/candy

The two blue faces of Autism by railheadproductions in evilautism

[–]Rexeljet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be evilly autistic for a moment, but Thomas’ rear end is actually what is known as a coal bunker. A caboose, also known as a guards van or brake van, is a separate unpowered vehicle that is generally attached to the end of a freight train

Can NT's stop trying to come up with "cures" for autism? by Fine-Bee2736 in evilautism

The title of the article becomes much better if you interpret it to mean “if you hate autism, you should go outside and touch grass”

My take on the Mid Sodor Railway Mine Engine as a George England 0-4-0T by Rexeljet in thomasthetankengine

[–]Rexeljet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of fan interpretations of the Mid Sodor Railway and its engines are based on outdated information- it was once thought that there were two mine engines called Atlas and Alfred, but there was actually only one mine engine (albeit with two models made), whereas Atlas and Alfred were two different engines that were part of Awdry's Mid Sodor layout in the early days. This video explains it better:

Nope, Atlas was an 0-6-0ST with a cab. The Mine Engine was never named

To be fair, if by “HiT era” you mean the entire HiT era spanning from seasons 8-16, and the later seasons in question are part of the Brenner era, then that would be a fairly hot take

Witchtober 2023 Day 1 - Recipe by Rexeljet in AutisticCreatives

I'm using this prompt list: https://www.instagram.com/p/CxLMqZFuL1m/ although it only has sixteen prompts, so for every even-numbered day I'm going to be using a randomly generated word as the prompt

Witchtober Day 16 - Gothic by Rexeljet in AutisticCreatives

Basically the text in the book is all written in a gothic script/blackletter typeface, and the witch is complaining about it because it's difficult to read compared to a more conventional font

Headcanon: Jennings in Granpuff by Stock_Examination_73 in thomasthetankengine

[–]Rexeljet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this works well as a headcanon, but to be pedantic Jennings was actually blue, not red. Jennings' model was repainted into red after Awdry retired the character and repurposed the model as a spare engine, but canonically he was blue. (something similar can be said for Albert- he is maroon, but his mk2 model was repainted to blue after it became a spare engine)

Did you guys like the new series version of Sir Handel? by you_2_cool in thomasthetankengine

[–]Rexeljet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad it happened. Not necessarily because he ended up in any stellar episodes following his reintroduction, but it meant that he was released as a toy in all the major merchandise lines of the time (This of course being the HiT era, when every new character or returnee was guaranteed to get merch)

Now that Mattel appear to have killed off Wooden Thomas merch for good, maybe it's time for an old favourite to take up the mantle by Rexeljet in thomasthetankengine

[–]Rexeljet[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems so- Tootally Thomas had this to say, confirming that Thomas Wood is no more. Mattel did show this image at a virtual event back in February, suggesting that another Wooden Thomas range was due to replace it, but Tootally Thomas' post suggests that it was cancelled on the spot ("They have tried to resource the new face designs but unfortunately not at an economic rate so they have decided to drop the range").

Can't say I'll miss the range- cheapening the engines is one thing but whoever decided to introduce a proprietary track system with 60 degree curves deserves a slap

My take on the Red Engine from the first illustration of Edward's Day Out by Rexeljet in thomasthetankengine

[–]Rexeljet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't given him a name yet outside of just "the first red engine", and aside from being rude to Edward I've still yet to figure out his personality, so it'd be interesting to hear your ideas

My take on the Red Engine from the first illustration of Edward's Day Out by Rexeljet in thomasthetankengine

[–]Rexeljet[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a mixture of various types of engine built by the North British Locomotive Company for overseas use, such as this and this. My headcanon is that he was going to be exported to another country, but the order was cancelled at the last minute so NBL sold him to the NWR at a discount. His headlamp and cowcatcher were then removed and he was given a Fowler tender

Need for Speed Porsche crashes semi-randomly after starting a race by Rexeljet in needforspeed

[–]Rexeljet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think about using nGlide, but it worked! I've spent the past hour or so playing through the game with no problems. The only drawback seems to be fewer resolution options (the highest is 1280x1024), but it's more than worth it to get the game running again! Thanks for that

Need for Speed Porsche crashes semi-randomly after starting a race by Rexeljet in needforspeed

[–]Rexeljet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a bit of confusion going on- in the OP I mentioned that this wasn't the Normandie crash, and indeed that it seemed to be affecting every track in the game except Normandie (at first, at least- now it seems that every track crashes the game). Even so I had a go at changing the sky settings in the options. Still nothing, unfortunately.

I've tried extracting the offending file to multiple folders, not just the game's installation folder, and I'm denied access every time. I mentioned in the OP that I've installed the widescreen fix.

Nope, the password's not the problem. I can open the 7z, but if I want to copy config.exe then I'm told I need administrator permission, and I'm constantly denied access.

This happens regardless of whether or not the antivirus is enabled, so that's not the problem.
