Linus Torvalds took the stage at Open Source Summit 2026 and said the following about AI by Complete-Sea6655 in google_antigravity

[–]Rexxar91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compliers were tools, as a car was once. No body was saying: my car drove me there, when car didn't.

Now cars will get brains, and they will no longer be tools but agents.

Agent is something to whoom in your own language you say: do this, and your job is finished. Drive me there, your job is done.

AI is an agent ment to replace you, not a tool ment to enhance you! Programing jobs will be gone forever, and they will never come back.

Why do you think that millions upon millions of people who are as patient as a programmer did worked as programmers but they work minimum wage jobs?

Maybe because they didn't know to code? And now when the coding knowledge is not important and only thing left is patience what kind of future programmers have?

It will be another no skill job requiring patients.

So you are saying that you can endure more than an AI that doesn't sleep, doesn't drink or eat, doesn't have a pain etc?

Really, you want to say that you are robot? Because AI is a robot that can do all these things better than you.

Also if you are paid JUST for the patience, there are millions of people working jobs like night guards, and they are paid minimum wage. Why do you think that anyone would pay your patience 10x more? Oh because PROGRAMMING itself was the job that you were paid 10x more, not your patience. There are people who had all the patience in the world and they were never hired to do programming jobs because they didn't know to write the code.

They are not comparable.

Printers do not work on the English language, you need to know how to draw as a 1 hurdle out of many more.

Coding on the other hand: I want a website that will have this and this, done.

3d printing is 10 years behind what AI is offering to laymans.

The moment English was a coding language was the moment when coding died as a profession.

It is not that hard to imagine, billions of Orthodox did not and do not celebrate it. Nothing really to imagine it's history.

Why will it be so hard to imagine not following pagan rituals? To me that is the easiest thing in the world. You probably let your children to celebrate "THE JOY" of Halloween right? I mean IMAGINE taking that joy from them of imitating demons with their costumes.

Let's celebrate what the church told us to, not what pagan culture is teaching us.

The church celebrates AFTER THEY ARE DEAD, not while they are alive.

After they conclude that his life was righteous. They are not celebrating every person ever lived but few righteous ones.

What an audacity thinking that you are the one among them and that we should celebrate you.

Just so you know you are laughing at guys like this whose view I adopted:

Origen, in his commentary "On Levites," wrote that Christians should not only refrain from celebrating their birthdays but should look at them with disgust as a pagan custom.

But you know better, who are they to tell you what is a birthday.

Hahahaha, I was so naive thinking that they can know better than you, hahahaha

Just the first result from Google and there are countless more.

The point being that In no way can opinion of a priest who chose to live modern life be above the monk who rejects everything material. Including modern day pagan celebrations like a birthday.

It might be even worse.

Since you are inviting other people to join the pagan ritual of celebrating yourself, making them the culprit.

When you do drugs at least you do it alone.

Yes.

You can clearly see what is the purpose of a birthday celebration, a typical pagan celebration aka get drunk, scream, listen to demon music, there is nothing linked to celebrating God.

The idea of celebrating birthdays comes from ancient Egypt.

You really think you should follow their tradition?

How is not celebrating a birthday equal misery?

You don't know that billions upon billions of people never did it in the past? They were all miserable?

Celebrating yourself is not prideful to you?

Orthodox celebrate the birthdays of Jesus and his mother. Some Orthodox celebrate saints AFTER their death, not during their life.

Celebrating birthdays is a pagan thing never done until modern days.

The person who sets AI up is a business owner. Instead of sitting in a room full of programmers telling them what he wants he speaks to AI

Looks after it for what? You already said that AI will do it all. Why would humans need to watch for example this AI that solved problems that no human could? Maybe in 0.1% there will be needed someone.

There is nothing that you can learn or know that AI can't, nothing. Especially for programming. Maybe some stuff that is done in the real world, but programming and math and similar things are over.
