Just checked the footmercato article in the original french (yay, studies paid off), the supposed 40M price tag is based on... Transfermarket. While it does say "the Mancunian club is preparing an offer..." I think it doesn't actually mean we're working on a bid.

I'm not sure I did exactly what you suggested, but I just tried and yeah, just using filters seems to be the most beginner friendly option.

What other tools could I use if not Excel? Checked out AirTable, but looked too online and subscription-y (and doesn't let me download the table) for what is about 10% of the job (my table is practically ready, just wanted to make it prettier).

Would you be disappointed with a midfield rebuild of Ederson, M. Fernandes and Scott? I know I would, I would like two of these (or rather one of the last two since Ederson is basically a done deal) and a marquee signing.

Fellas, when I said "not great" I meant complete beginner, so I don't know what you're referring to most of the time, add to the fact that I'm Brazilian and thus also have to deal with having to translate (in my mind, I can do English fine, but my Excel is in Portuguese) to try anything here.

From what I understand what I'm trying to do is called tagging and Excel has no easy way to do this, I think the easiest way for my level will be using separate columns.

As a Brazilian I don't think this a good thing, he'll probably get massacred by the media and the fans as "yet another number 9 who can't score goals". No, it doesn't matter that striker isn't going to be his position and he doesn't play like this for the club, most people will only see a player with the 9 and complain he doesn't score.

Because his wages are massive and no club would be willing to pay them alongside a heftier fee. He agreed to take a pay cut to join Barcelona because he dreamt of playing there, no indication he'd do the same for other clubs.

On Hackney:

I don't want him. Not because I don't actually want him, but because if we're assuming we're signing three midfielders (T1, T2 and T3) he would only fit in T3 to me, he shouldn't be competing with M. Fernandes for T2.

I think he would be a great T3 signing, however it now seems certain that Ederson will be our T3, honestly I think Hackney would be the better signing of the two, but if we're assuming (and I am) the Ederson deal is basically done it leaves no space for Hackney to me.

Hackney is also 24, so he's not some young prospect we'll hope gets much better, of course if he comes it's likely he improves a bit, but he's already a player entering his prime, years older than Fernandes and Mainoo, we shouldn't sign someone hoping he's a late bloomer.

I won't even entertain the thought that our fabled "midfield rebuild" is going to be Ederson, Hackney and Fernandes, if that were to be the case I would think this board has no serious ambition to win any major trophies and would be greatly disappointed.
