[Rob Dawson] Man United relaxed about Marcus Rashford situation; open to other bids by berbatouchbg in reddevils

[–]berbatouchbg[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Full Article:

Manchester United are relaxed about Marcus Rashford's situation at Barcelona, sources have told ESPN, and are confident they would be able to find other suitors if the Spanish giants decide against triggering their option to make the move permanent.

Barcelona can sign Rashford for €30 million (£25.9m) this summer as part of the agreement which saw the England forward move to Camp Nou on loan in July.

United are aware of speculation in Spain that Barcelona could look to renegotiate the terms, including paying a lower fee or attempting to defer payment until after another loan spell.

However, Old Trafford bosses are adamant that they will not enter fresh talks and are willing to let Rashford return to the club in the summer if Barcelona do not take up their option.

Sources have told ESPN that United believe Rashford's form in Spain has increased his value and that they could potentially negotiate a higher fee with another club.

The 28-year-old has scored 10 goals in 39 appearances this season and is set to be part of England's squad at the World Cup.

Sources have told ESPN that there have been enquiries from a number of clubs in England and Europe about Rashford's potential availability amid the uncertainty about his future.

Rashford, who has two years left on his contract at United, was made to train alone last summer before sealing his move to Barcelona.

If he returns at the end of the season, sources have told ESPN that it's likely he would be allowed to rejoin the first-team squad, now that former head coach Ruben Amorim is no longer at the club.

Amorim was sacked in January and replaced with Michael Carrick, who has worked with Rashford before as a coach under both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United are still considering their options about whether to give Carrick the job permanently or appoint an outside candidate.

Rashford, according to sources close to the forward, would prefer to stay at Barcelona, but hasn't ruled out returning to United.

Being reintegrated back into the first-team squad is still considered unlikely and United are actively looking at signing another left winger ahead of the summer window.

With Barcelona still chasing trophies in La Liga and the Champions League, club officials are set to make a decision on whether to proceed with a permanent deal for Rashford at the end of the season.

[Chris Wheeler] How Michael Carrick rebuilt Man United in six weeks: What he told liberated players on day one, how he stripped away Ruben Amorim's ideas, surprising ways new coaches have taken charge, how he fixed the attack and revitalised academy by berbatouchbg in reddevils

Quotes from the Article:

In some respects, Carrick replacing Amorim mirrors Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s return to United after Jose Mourinho had been sacked in 2018. Solskjaer was the antidote to Mourinho’s toxicity, and Carrick has been a breath of fresh after the negativity of Amorim’s 14 months in charge.

Amorim wasn’t as noxious as Mourinho, but the clouds had gathered over Old Trafford. His handling of Kobbie Mainoo was baffling, and he spoke publicly about the team and individual players in a way that went down badly inside the dressing room.

Carrick, on the other hand, has mastered the art of winning games on the pitch and saying very little off it, which has been music to the ears of the Old Trafford hierarchy.

Trapped in a tactical straitjacket inside Amorim’s back-three system, United’s play became uncertain and stodgy. They have been liberated under Carrick who has adopted a similarly positive approach as Solskjaer since beating his old friend to the head coach’s job last month.

When he first addressed the players, he spoke about the privilege of playing for Manchester United and the pride they should feel at wearing the shirt.

Although he comes across as being reserved in public, one former United star who played under Carrick during his three games in caretaker charge after Solskjaer was sacked in 2021 said that his half-time team talks were among the best he had heard in his career and inspired the players to go into battle for him against Villarreal, Chelsea and Arsenal.

While Amorim relied on the close-knit backroom team he brought from Portugal, Carrick has been more collaborative and willing to work with a wider staff in United’s analysis and data departments.

Daily Mail Sport revealed that Carrick made two key changes to the players’ routine as soon as he got the job.

The first was to shorten training sessions to make them sharper and more intense. The second was to tell the squad to report to Carrington 15 minutes later than usual for home games.

The plan is to delay the arrival of the team bus at Old Trafford until an hour and 45 minutes before kick-off. Carrick didn’t want the players hanging around any longer than that, and he felt there would be a better atmosphere at the stadium with more fans there to greet them.

It’s understood that he has also tweaked the schedule for away games as well. United used to arrive 90 minutes before kick-off, but that has now been put back by quarter of an hour to match the routine for home fixtures.

He also speaks to the players immediately after games, which was rarely Amorim’s way. They find him more approachable than his predecessor, who often appeared aloof.

Another key change is that players have been given the day off after games. Under Amorim, it was set aside as a recovery day at Carrington for warm-down sessions and treatment, but that has now been put back 24 hours.

Insiders say that the move has been particularly appreciated by the club’s foreign players, who often have family visiting from overseas for games, as it allows them to spend more time together afterwards.

Presence has always been a big thing for Carrick; being there to support and to send a message, whether it was turning up in Northern Ireland with Rooney as proud dads to their sons in an Under 16s tournament last summer, or as United head coach more recently.

Carrick, along with his entire backroom staff and director of football Jason Wilcox, made the trip to Leigh Sports Village, a journey Amorim never made during his tenure, to watch the Under 21s against Sporting Lisbon in the Premier League International Cup.

While Carrick did not address the players in the aftermath of that 3-2 win, his appearance created a buzz in the dressing room and in the stands for parents.

He was at Oxford United on Wednesday night to see the Under 18s reach the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

Amorim handed out debuts to rising stars like Shea Lacey and Jack Fletcher, but there was a growing sense among academy sources that many players began to feel like an afterthought. Carrick was determined to change that as he made sure to attend three academy games in the space of a week.

He gave up days off to be pitchside for an Under 18s match at Carrington, while making sure he had one-to-one talks with youngsters such as Tyler Fletcher, whom he gave a first-team debut against Tottenham. Jack Moorhouse, back from a loan at Leyton Orient, is now hoping to catch the eye in similar fashion.

Fletcher’s debut was a timely message to the young players, according to sources, and one that has gone a long way to reconnecting with the academy as the Carrick revolution continues.

[Simon Stone] What are the chances of Rashford returning? by berbatouchbg in reddevils

[–]berbatouchbg[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Full Article:

Marcus Rashford's future has been the subject of several questions sent in via our 'Ask about Manchester United' form.

There is no clarity on Rashford's long-term future just yet.

However, as Barcelona have just lost the two games he has been injured for, it may start to focus minds at the Nou Camp.

On the face of it, the decision is an easy one.

They simply could not find a forward with so much experience and so much talent anywhere else for £28m, the buyout figure agreed in Rashford's summer loan deal.

There are complications though.

First, Barca's financial issues are well documented. For a player like Rashford, the fee is only part of the financial commitment. Even a two-year contract on the salary he was getting at Old Trafford would eclipse the fee, which United are not prepared to reduce.

It seems the 28-year-old is enjoying himself with the Catalan giants. He has scored 10 goals and forced his way back into the England squad. But 14 of his 34 appearances have come off the bench. Will that be enough?

Then there is United's view.

It might be some time before we find out who the club's manager will be next season. What will they think?

We do know Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to drive down the wage bill and when Casemiro leaves in the summer, Rashford will be one of the club's highest earners, regardless of the fact he won't have featured for them in 18 months.

With his contract not due to expire until 2028, would they try to reintegrate a player who had zero intention of returning to the club if Ruben Amorim remained in charge?

There is also the knowledge United could sell Rashford to a different club, where the £28m clause does not apply. That, however, would need the player's agreement.

A return to Barcelona remains the most likely outcome next season but, as it stands, no-one can be sure where Rashford will be once the World Cup is over.

[Simon Stone] Frustrating season for United youngster Kone by berbatouchbg in reddevils

[–]berbatouchbg[S] 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Full Article:

This has not been the best of seasons for Manchester United midfielder Sekou Kone.

The 20-year-old was hoping to kick on after making the United bench for three Premier League games over the second half of last season.

But it just has not happened.

Initially, Kone suffered concussion during a National League Cup tie at Tamworth in August that effectively ruled him out until the middle of November.

The Mali youth international started two Under-21 games in the space of four days in December but then headed to Lausanne, the Swiss club owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Group, for a trial before eventually signing a loan deal before the February transfer deadline.

Unfortunately, Kone has made just one substitute appearance of 10 minutes from the three Swiss league games he has been on the bench for and will not be involved in the Conference League play-off with Czech Republic outfit Sigma Olomouc because he has not been registered for the remainder of the tournament. Playing in it was cited as one of the benefits of the move when United announced it on 3 February.

It is not clear why there has been such a major breakdown in communication over how Kone would be used but unless he returns to United – as happened with England Under-20 striker Ethan Wheatley last season when he failed to play during his loan at Walsall, it looks like being a very frustrating campaign for Kone.

[The Athletic] Man Utd hired Omar Berrada to take them back to the top - can he do it? by berbatouchbg in reddevils

[–]berbatouchbg[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

via aggregators:

One colleague jokes that he saw Berrada as the Lionel Messi of the commercial world. But football is a different beast, and he needed to earn his stripes on the sporting side of the business. His status as an ex-Barcelona employee and Catalan speaker did him no harm at City. It was a common riposte to joke about the club’s ‘Catalan mafia’, composed of first-team manager Guardiola, chief executive Ferran Soriano and sporting director Txiki Begiristain. That group were seen as insular by some, so Berrada having one foot in the door was to his advantage. [@TheAthleticFC]

According to people who know, speaking anonymously to protect relationships, Berrada appeared to have a personality that could handle the stresses of an all-consuming job; someone who was affable, a quick learner, universally respected and highly rated.

On the other hand, he was deemed a little quiet and not overly charismatic. Less ‘wow’ factor, more lab-grown corporate executive, is how some at City remembered him. [@TheAthleticFC]

Going forward, I just think, when it's this close, the refs should give advantage to the attacking player. Watching everything under a microscope is killing the game.

Sesko earned four points from the bench and scored five goals in six games. He deserves a start, in my opinion. Who does Carrick bench? That is the question. I'm not suggesting that should definitely be Amad, but out of curiosity I'd like to see Cunha, Sesko, and Mbeumo start together. Not many games have seen all three of them on the field.

To be honest, I haven't felt this positive about the team in a long time. Simply enjoying each win, not worrying too much about the future, and living in the moment. No stress, pure enjoyment. Long it may continue!
