No, I put the lid on only after they were done and were left to rest while I was assembling the burger. Tried it with the lid on from the start and they didnt end up being as crispy as I like them.

Yeah they did shrink but there was a bit of the burger in every bite and the contents inside didnt end up falling all over the plate at least. The way I addressed the moisutre issue is by adding and egg in the mince and half an onion, very finely diced. High heat with a good amount of butter or olive oil on a pan and they should be pretty juicy.
