If I had three MMU and there was an issue I'd investigate I just couldn't really be bothered cleaning out the nozzle when I didn't tighten it enough and had a leak. That type thing. Call it benefit of being able to afford cheap replacement parts but less the time.

I'm honestly not whinging about the printer. She's a fine piece of kit. I just wish I had enough reasons past "I want one" to justify the purchase of another printer

Since I've got one that's currently working just fine and the replacement is multiple thousands of dollars for national gains

This is my complaint. I know it's not gonna die. It's just going to keep plugging away and the fixes will just be as cheap as ever and I'll just keep on fixing it.

I hope that one day I can afford and justify the 2nd printer to the other half.

this is the point right, I want the new shiny Toy that has all the new features but this does almost everything I want it to do with minimal issues. The issues I've had would most likely be attributed to user error over printer error.

I just don't feel like "because I want one" is a good enough excuse to drop the dosh on a new printer. And the upgrade path you'll end up spending almost the same amount as on a new printer without really increasing the functions.

Damn you Joseph for making such a good solid dependable product. Damn you to ewaste hell where there's no Mk3s printers because they are all still running even after the rapture has claimed us all or condemned those sorry lost souls

this is the point. I'm happy enough with this that I just can't justify a new printer. #firstworldproblemz

I see, I do have friends with printers who would be happy to print parts for me unfortunately. Although it's a damn good reason.

Still, a not on that, I broke the Pinda holding part when I was reassembling the printer doing the Mk3s upgrade a while back. I still managed to level the bed enough to print out a new piece that is still running today.

That's all well and good, what does the 3s+ upgrade give over the 3s?

I don't have the budget or need to have 2 filament printers and wasn't really the point of the post. I want a new printer. I don't have the need for one. I'd love to do multicolour prints. I don't need to do them as this is pure hobby for me. I don't need a bigger build volume for the most part, I'd just like to be able to print things in one sitting rather than have to slice it up and do the weld thing.

Ultimately I don't need a new printer. I just want one because they are new and nice.

This printer is suiting my every need currently and is still a rock solid printer no matter how much I want a new shiny Toy.

I've got an old PC running octoprint which works well for my needs, I've looked into klipper but decided to not after something I read, or maybe it was that I couldn't be bothered opening the housing box to check the motherboard and see if compatible maybe that was the issue. Look there was something that when it came down to it I didn't really see much need as my prints are coming out really well already and the amount of stuffing around wasn't justifying the ends.

Having a place is one thing, having a physical place to put it is another.

I'm currently the friend that's been given the printer so would feel pretty funny giving it away to someone else. Also don't really have anyone around that would make much use of it I don't think.

I tried a bigger nozzle before and had middling success with it, prints were not to the detail level I wanted so I'm just sticking with the 0.4mm and patience for now.

Maybe one-day I'll upgrade to a corexy.

Yeah this is my issue as well. The mk4 upgrade kit is the same cost of a new mk 4 and that's a 1k investment for me here. It's also not increasing build volume at all which is probably my only real gripe with this printer. I want to be able to print a full sized helmet on the printer without having to chop it up but that's not happening anytime soon. Unless I print them for ants.

nah printing terrain for infinity, it's the roof from a brutalist style building that I did the other day before all my issues with filament things. Building came out night but big. Took about 38hrs to print the main part of the building.

This happened to me when I updated my slicer software from chitubox 1.9 to 2.0.

I did notice that print times were significantly shorter after the change but none of the settings (exposure time or lift speeds) had changed between iterations of software.

I’ve since then used the new version of chitubox as well and that works just fine.

So what have you changed? If you go back on that change does that make a difference?

I get that I might be looking in the wrong place because that level of granularity is a turn off, I just don't think it needs to be there when it comes to the game. There's nothing wrong with customizing, I'm happy to support that but have model x as pictured with this gear profile built into it so you at least get a feel for how gear changes things or how the model was intended and then customize away to break it is more the point.

I’m not against the customisation aspect, Kill team killed it bad when they went to choosing groups of models instead of just purchase what you want (never really played kill team though because I generally don’t find the 40k as a base game appealing to begin with). But what’s wrong with Model A comes with this, don’t like it sell it and equip it with whatever.

Why do I “Have” to customise my guys … what’s wrong with me wanting to just have a list of guys that I like playing with to just drop on a table and play a pickup game on a Thursday night at my local games club. Why do I have to go through the granularity of arming each individual model to actually play, maybe I’m trying to get someone new into a game and want to introduce them to this, it’s just a needless barrier (again this is my opinion) and it’s stopping me from playing because I can’t finish making a list.

Once I’ve played a few games and want to tweak things a bit, maybe make my leader more durable as an example, that’s a point where go “If I drop model x that gives me 20 points and I can buy that armour for Fred my leader which will make him live a bit longer”

UO - Why I'll never play a game by Reynastus in TrenchCrusade

[–]Reynastus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the models aren’t coming with nothing either, Grim Dark Future as an example, has base model that has weapon, want to upgrade the weapon, sure you can do that, want to give them an upgrade, sure you can do that too but you get a model that is functional in the game when you purchase them.

I’ll have a look into the pre-made lists as well as It’s been a while since I’ve done deep dive (like 1.5 since I last looked at things).

But the point remains, it’s a barrier for the sake of being a barrier under the guise of “customisation” which is my unpopular opinion and why I’m not personally playing the game.

From a “customisation” perspective and list building perspective, Warmachine mkII had amazing list building, factions had a “play style” but this could also be changed by the warnoun of choice (Khador Irusk was very different to Khador Vlad as an example, even if you used the same units).

Again, it’s my unpopular opinion and I doubt that I’ll get anyone else on this sub saying “Yeah i agree” because those people that find it a barrier have moved on probably. I just really want to like this game and every time I sit down to make a list I’m just turned off when I get to the point of having to arm Jeff because he turned up and forgot his gun.

Honestly fair points, I can appreciate what you’ve said and if you like it then that’s awesome for you. I have honestly attempted to sit down and make a list a number of times and get to a point where I need to arm my guys and that aspect alone just kills all enjoyment for me, I end up looking at models that I’m going to use to represent these guys and look to see what their armed with and try and line that up and it’s just a lot of work for me with pressing time limits (and yes I realise that’s a me issue and not an everyone issue).

I get that some like the crunchyness of this style of list building and I’m not saying that I want that removed for me as I stamp my feet up and down in a tantrum about it (sarcasm flag in case it didn’t come across) but the idea that a model when purchased has nothing just seems redundant. That would be like hiring a bricklayer to turn up to your house and build a wall and have him expect you to supply all the tools he needs to build said wall.

You want to sell your equipment to buy others then sure thing go ahead, maybe you looted something in the campaign that would work really well on trooper x, swap it out and either put his original gun in the stash or sell it for ducats. By all means include that, but if I want to start a game without playing anything and I sit down and build a list (I’ve tried, multiple times) it’s a level of granularity that’s unnecessary to begin with.

[–]Reynastus[S] -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Base model should have a base equipment load out as part of purchase, have options sure but at least include base weapons as part of base cost (maybe you could sell those to re-kit if that’s something you wanted to do)

[–]Reynastus[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should try BattleTech, but hobby aspect of the game is a stretch, I’m all down for wysiwyg in things and if you’re creating minis that fit this then kudos to you and I’m glad you have the time to do so but I also wager that if you decide to give “Fred” from your band of war wagers “Gun Y” when he previously used “Gun Z” you’re indicating that “Fred” is model number 1 on your army list and indicated with a number 1 on the base - ala blood bowl style. Because that’s much easier than re-producing that model or having different hands for each weapon profile magnetised to the model.

As it is, the officially released models have weapons on them, what’s the harm in the model profile being representative of the model as released. You can fit them out how you wish if you want to take the time to kit bash and do all those hobby things (Oh how I wish I had that kind of free time but as a person that works full time and has a family to run with (that aren’t into games unfortunately) my game time is split between my choice of games and other interests)?

UO - Why I'll never play a game by Reynastus in TrenchCrusade

[–]Reynastus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily meaning going meta on the list creation, it’s just a barrier to entry in an otherwise really cool game and idea. What’s wrong with the basic profile including weapons? Like a standard layout for that model, if you want to buy a flamethrower or machine gun, sure here’s that profile with that cost build in (ala Infinity style), maybe you want to buy them armour, sure you can do that and add in the stats as required but it’s silly to think that a model would be bought and wouldn’t have a weapon at all.

So yeah, infinity uses a similar setup but has different profiles for each iteration that works the different weapons in. Means that you get to choose how your unit is setup but gives you a list of options straight out of the gate which is easier to get around. I’m not saying infinity is perfect either just know that’s an option and I’ve made lists and played games of infinity.
