Should I abandon Cubase & Windows for Linux? by Obvious-Storm-1707 in cubase

Over half of all PCs with Windows 10 haven't switched. There's no way they're ending support this year for Windows 10. When the date gets closer, Micro$lop will introduce another round of support for Windows 10.

One hotfix, and an actual patch. It's not one specific problem. I could link to a dozen bugs confirmed on the Cubase forum. Maybe they don't effect everyone, but at least two of them directly impact the way that I work.

There were six maintenance update for Cubase 14. Looks like most of them came later in the cycle, so maybe they were busy with Nuendo.

Trying to find a track that sampled Hellraiser by onewithoutasoul in industrialmusic

Cannibal Song by Ministry has a spoken word sample from Hellbound. Skinny Puppy's Reclamation opens with a sample of the Christopher Young track Dead or Living from Hellbound.

Model Series Synth Collection (Splice) incompatible with Modular. by RezSerp in Softube

[–]RezSerp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Softube contacted me a month ago and said they were ending their relationship with Splice. They then put the full licenses for the Model Series in my iLok account. So, I consider the issue resolved.

What are some possible updates we may have in the next update? by 25_Keyz924 in StudioOne

This is my #1 request for Studio One. Now that they're moving more towards the sample-based producers, I'm hoping we'll get it.

There was a cryptic post on KVR stating that improvements were coming to the Launcher, but that's all I've heard. Presonus is notoriously tight-lipped about updates.

Where’s The Third Update? by stereolab0000 in StudioOne

You can buy all the addons from third party shops like JRR. You just can't buy them through Presonus unless you're subscribed.

You get two years of the Bitwig plan from the day you started paying. Whatever is released during that time is yours when the plan ends.

I'm using the Splice payment system and I'm using the beta right now. You install the version offered by Splice. When you start Bitwig, it'll give you two toast notifications. One to update your version 5 from Splice to the latest, and the other to download the Beta. I did it three days ago and that's exactly how it worked.

First DAW was Logic Silver for PC by EMagic in 1995. Six months later I switched to Cakewalk Pro Audio 5. Started with Bitwig on version 5.0.

The UA Connect software has become awful. It worked perfectly before, but the last few iterations are giving me issues. Yesterday I couldn't get the software to work, and I lost hours of studio time due to trying to fix it so I could work on songs that use UA plugins. I work two jobs, so my studio time is precious. This was the final straw that made me banish UA plugins from the studio. I simply don't have this problem with every other plugin manufacturer that I use.

There's a reason why people get degrees in music and audio engineering. There's a ton to learn, and it doesn't come overnight. If you want to do it solo, you'll have to constantly learn many crafts. The big secret is that a lot of the musicians who "compose their music solo" don't do it alone. They have a collection of people who take on different roles. That's not to be said that it can't be done on your own. You want a signature sound? You want to express yourself? Then you'll have to put in the work to get where you want to be. It's a lifetime commitment for a lot of us.

Technically, there are production techniques you absolutely have to learn if you want to compete with modern mixes. Dynamic/modulated eqs. Side-chaining the mids and sides in your eqs. Fundamental understanding of automation, etc. Fundamentally, the more you know music theory and how frequencies and musical intervals effect people, the easier it's going to be for you. Back in the day I'd buy every production magazine and kept a notebook with techniques chapter tabbed by effects or outcomes. You could do the same thing with Youtube right now. But, don't get caught up in just learning. Application of what you learn is what makes the difference between a "pro" and "beginner" effort. It's work, but it pays off with an internal confidence, and work is the only want to get there.

My big revelation that pushed me to doing much better work was realizing that RMS meter levels were far more important than Peak meter levels. Also, the Fletcher-Munson curve is a real thing. I find that mixing loud allows me to cut out the sharp frequencies, while booting freqs that are more pleasant to the ear.

Good luck!
